If I have one regret on my recent trip overseas, it was the lack of full English breakfasts I got to eat while there. However, since I was only allotted my «one», I’m glad that I chose Café Maya. The name and the décor are definitely not aligned. With a few minor references to the menu, there is nothing«Mayan» about this. The restaurant is small but cozy and homey. It reminded me a lot of little shops that dot the side streets of other cities like New York or Boston in the US. But the décor and the misnomer of a name is hardly anything to be concerned with, especially when you get down to the real reason you’re here: the food. The traditional English breakfast here was everything I wanted and MORE! For relatively cheap, about £5−6, you can get a complete and filling breakfast, loaded with all the fixings you come to know and love. The mushrooms were my favorite part. But the combo of the bacon(rashers), baked beans, and perfectly cooked over-medium eggs made for a delectable melting pot that smothered the plate(and ultimately, my stomach). In some ways, I’m glad that I only had the time and the room for one English breakfast since I could barely finish the one that first one. But honestly: WORTHIT!

Very clean place with pleasant staff. I went for set menu number 5 which was sausage bacon egg and bubble and squeak. Everything was very nice apart from the bubble and squeak which was a bit sloppy. For £5.50 with tea and toast you can’t go wrong!

As passing this place yesterday and considering the menu I asked the 2 people exiting if it was amy good, they responded with a positive recommendation hence here today. The ambiance of this modern take of a greasy spoon is pleasant in sense of décor and tables. Even HP and Heinz ketchup taking prominent place on every table. I ordered set breakfast number 5 with bubble and squeek, sausage, bacon, beans and a fried egg, all coming with toast and a choice of tea or coffee. I grabbed the ketchup ready to tuck into my hearty breakfast when I noticed a colour lack upon pouring from my bottle, then to confirm my thoughts tasted it to realise that DAMN I was right(unfortunately) getting a sharp taste of the bitterness associated with vinegar … This was cheap red sauce in a Heinz Ketchup bottle, the same for the brown sauce!(I am a lover of both HP and Ketchup on fry ups hence my essay here!). The toast, bacon and beans were ok, the sausage was a cheap frozen one and as for the bubble and squeek, vial was not the word, or maybe I had just chosen wrong, but sloppy green baby food would be a pertinent description. I am more disappointed because I really was looking forward to this place. Sorry but I would NOT return, but maybe grabbing a bacon sandwich on the go would be acceptable!

I love Café Maya and go about every other week because I live down the road at the nearby LSE student accommodation. Great hangover brunch option, y’all! Full English and variations for about 5 pounds. Comes with coffee or tea. Smoothies are about 3 pounds, but absolutely delicious and can be life-saving . There’s not a ton of seating, but there always seems to be a spot! Service is friendly, responsive, and relatively efficient though there’s usually only one waitress out on the floor.
