Had a quick lunch here before an appointment at the Western Eye Hospital around the corner. I must have got there before the main lunchtime rush, but half of the tables were already taken. The hot dishes on offer looked inviting — nothing special, the usual selection of veggie pasta, Chinese stir fry and chilli con carne — but I decided to stick to a pannini with roasted vegetables. I have never had a version with diced carrots before … Still, one of the more attractive choices of the places in walking distance to the hospital, and the staff were very friendly. In between the waves of heavy traffic thundering down from Marylebone Road, you almost forget that you are in London — this is one of these rather weird forgotten corners of London, right in the centre, yet local and quiet.

Decent café at the corner of York St. and Seymour Place. Service is charming, wide choice of hot and cold food to choose from and reasonable prices: £5.50 for a chicken curry with rice and a cup of tea. Take away or stay in but space is limited inside. Good for a quick lunch break!
