What a gem — this feels like a well kept secret. It’s an all-day restaurant, but we rocked up on a Saturday morning and opted for brunch. As Larissa G mentioned, the monmouth coffee is perfectly brewed and the menu is interesting. It’s varied — some american, some british and some french inspired options. The service is really fantastic. Our server informed us that it’s owned by the same people who own the nearby Peche Mignon, one of my other favourite neighbourhood spots. There were a handful of really great looking options, but I ended up deciding on the french toast brioche with maple bacon and it was absolutely delicious. My partner got the kippers and eggs and equally enjoyed it. The food came quickly and there were free newspapers to make our lazy weekend morning just that bit better. As long as it’s always friendly & quiet — I’ll be back often, although I feel like when word gets out, this place will soon be queued out the door…

I always enjoy discovering neighborhood gems and this one is lively with a fun and eclectic décor. Most of the guests at dinner ordered the pan roast rump steak which was apparently very good. I ordered the gnocchi and it was quite nice along with the amazing English asparagus, fried quail egg, parmesan & lemon sabayon starter. The wine selections are nice and as many might know it’s rare to find a London restaurant who can make a good martini… this one is on the list, yay. The service here is friendly and attentive. Our party of 6 was well taken care of the entire night. We also enjoyed some of their fantastic desserts and complimentary cognac. I’m certainly going back so maybe I’ll see you there. Bön appetite y’all this American Southerner in London has found more martini options with fabulous food.

The sun came out and the temperature was warm enough to sit outside comfortably for the first time in six months, and Assiette Anglaise appeared just as I was walking home from my boyfriend’s place, slightly hungover and definitely hungry. Despite being 11am, the place had a few tables empty, including one outside which I promptly plonked myself down at. The coffee was perfectly brewed. The brunch menu was interesting, reasonably priced and impressively executed. The service was on point. Really, I can’t think of a more enjoyable brunch I’ve had in ages. If Assiette Anglaise is always as refreshingly not-busy as it was during my first visit, this might win the prize for being my most frequented local joint for a weekend breakfast and brew.

You know I love my weekend brunches. If there’s anything that makes me feel better after a rough night out, it’s definitely brunch, and last week’s edition brought me over to Assiette Anglaise. It’s a quiet little restaurant with not very much traffic since it’s out of the way and not on the main road. Having a number of options to choose from at fairly reasonable prices, I decided to go for the ‘Steak & Egg’. You might know its cousin ‘Steak & Eggs,’ but yes, the one here only comes with 1. And it comes fried, unless you state otherwise. The dish comes with the steak pre-cut into slices which made my life a whole easier. Great flavor, although it was a little too chewy for my taste. My friend ordered the french toast with bacon, which he could not stop raving about. It’s good. It’s quiet. And I didn’t have to wait for a table. A well-kept secret for now, but who knows for how long!

Stopped in for brunch on a sunny Saturday morning around 9:30am. I had the Brioche French Toast with fruit salad and crème fraîche(£6.50) and a glass of orange/grapefruit juice(£2.50). The fruit salad was rather tiny, which was a bit disappointing. The French toast, however, was amazing. Very rich and filling, and exactly what it ought to be. My juice was fresh from the juicer, and lovely. My husband had the Omelette, which had smoked haddock and parmesan cheese in it. It was more of a frittata than a traditional omelette, but he was really happy with it either way. Very filling and flavourful. His coffee was also very nice. The décor is funky and modern with clean lines and bright colours. The service was good, if not terribly speedy. We will definitely go back for lunch, possibly dinner or dessert and cocktails as their menus for both are enticing.

Friends just moved nearby and we decided to check out Assiette Anglaise for brunch. It’s a bright little place, very open and airy, and nicely decorated. The menu isn’t huge, but has a little bit for everyone. I always have a hard time choosing between sweet and savory for breakfast, but Assiette Anglaise solved my problem with having brioche French toast served with bacon — perfect! The French toast was a bit different than I’ve had before — sort of thick sticks of it, and very sweet and caramalised on the outside — and it was divine. I loved it. My friends were also pleased with their meals, which is a particularly good thing for the ones who now live around the corner. The Bloody Mary was also super tasty — I’d definitely order it again.

We are always on the lookout for new brunch spots — especially in our neighbourhood of Angel/Islington. Following a Saturday appointment on Holloway Road, my partner Alex and I made our way to Assiette Anglaise after receiving recommendations from our foodie friends. From a setting point of view, Assiette is located on a quiet, quaint corner and sitting inside it felt far away from the bustle of Holloway Road — definitely scoring extra points for a lazy Saturday morning. I had the chickpea, roasted aubergine & tomato, rocket pepper and goat’s cheese salad — always preferring the healthy option for my hare of the dog fix — I matched this with a bloody mary and detox tea. The chickpea salad was quite good — all the ingredients were super fresh. Admittedly, this probably wasn’t the best option for a Saturday brunch — as after a few bites I was ready to move on to something else delicious(the variety of both english and american breakfasts mean all those different tastes in your mouth from a single order). The bloody mary was disappointing — it was quite watered down — i prefer my bloodies with thick tomato juice and lots of spice and I tend to be a snob when they are lacking the celery garnish! Alex, conversely, ordered the toulouse sausage and butter bean stew with fried duck egg with s coffee. Beginning with the coffee, you can’t go wrong with Monmouth — so nay disappointment there. His meal was delicious and I found myself gazing over longingly for parts of the meal, hoping to continuously swipe bites. He, of course, took that opportunity to chastise me on my order, as he wasn’t much a fan of the chickpea salad. As a big breakfast lover, I kicked myself for not ordering the brioche french toast, recommended by the server upon our arrival. We won’t be going out of our way to revisit Assiette, but the next time we are in the neighbourhood — we will definitely stop in. Perhaps for the Sunday Roast which was advertised at our table.
