There is so much choice at The Patio, I am not sure how they manage such a creative menu. Sometimes I check out menu’s before I go to a restaurant and decide what I want even before I get there. In this case, I didn’t and left it to the moment the waitor handed me the menu. As usual I head straight to the dessert menu and did in this case. Five desserts to choose from, each with something a little bit different about them. Chocolate brownie served with cinder toffee ice cream and laced with raspberry sauce, classic crème brulee served with cookie biscuit cream, white and dark chocolate cheesecake, carrot cake with butter cream dressed with a butter scotch sauce and classic British cheeseboard with fresh apple and pear chutney. Or alternatively if you love ice cream like my dad, and ice cream supercedes any other type of sweets — the trio of ice cream will probably satisfy you. I was pleased to see that honeycomb ice cream is a choice for one of the trio. I think I would have to recommend trying the cheesecake. Overall the whole experience was pretty good!

With so many places competing with each other in such a close proximity, it was bound to happen that one or two place along Allerton Rd would be trying to punch above their weight. The Patio is by no means the worst place along this busy stretch of high street but it’s certainly a little confused with what it is trying to be. As soon as our party arrived there was a tension from the rigid manner in which the staff greeted us and bizarrely kept us waiting in a sort of pre-table purgatory near the door. Having already booked and with only two other tables in the restaurant, it was a bit strange why the staff would want us to sit in what was a bit like a doctor’s surgery while we studied the menu — the bar area was hardly the best or cosiest area of what is a bright and tasteful restaurant? — this isn’t fine dining and it’s not what any of us expected so it would have been more enjoyable with a more relaxed manner. When we were finally seated on the wobbly table near the back — worth the wait then! — the food was pretty good. The chicken parfait — soft pâté to you and me — was lovely and the duck breast with mash was very tasty although a little over done and a bit tougher than I would like but overall the group enjoyed the portions and good blend of flavours all round and with 3 courses at 15 quid on a sunday evening it’s onvious why this is a popular place.

The Patio, despite a name that might remind you of the domestic violence storyline in the mid 90s heyday of Brookside, Liverpool’s much-missed flagship soap(you’re in LIVERPOOL! Home of the Jordaches! Did you not think of the connotations? Poor Eddie Banks coming across that hand, dear God), is actually a very popular restaurant, particularly for its seafood dishes. A stone’s throw from Penny Lane, this is a great spot for Beatles and Merseybeat lovers looking to soak up a bit of 1960s Liverpudlian culture. The pan-seared scallops are particularly tasty, and the signature fish here is prawns. They have an entire menu dedicated to prawns, and there’s an oyster menu but they need a 24 hour notice if you want those bad boys. As for mains, there’s a superb vegetable strudel and some excellent meats — all accompanied by seasonal veg and potatoes and if you need even more, they do superb homemade fat chips. All in all, The Patio’s not the cheapest option in Liverpool but it’s certainly a treat. Much more of a treat than finding a body in your back yard. Although, that goes without saying, really.

The Patio is a popular yet a littlee luxurious restaurant in the heart of the Allerton Road area. It’s in the ideal place to head over to a wine bar for a drink after your meal. The restaurant is well known for its seafood, particularly its prawns. The chef’s recommendation is olives while you’re perusing through the menu, scallops to start, prawns for your main, and cheesecake for dessert — and I can’t say I’d disagree! It is a little pricey but for the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the staff, it is well worth it. The Patio does have an early bird menu Tuesday-Thursday between half 5 and 7.15pm which is a little easier on the pockets with 3 courses for £15.95

This is my favourite restaurant. Beautiful food especially the seafood dishes. Lovely atmosphere attentive waiting staff and it’s local to me! Not pretentious in any way and reasonable prices. What more do you want!
