Rennies Arts and Crafts is situated on Bold Street in the heart of the city centre. It is a rarity to find a dedicated arts and craft store these days, particularly an independent one. The shop sells everything you could possibly need for arts and crafts. They have a massive range of products for amateurs and professional artists alike. The shop is crammed to the rafters with intriguing bits and bobs for all your art and craft needs. The staff are friendly and are very helpful. They are very knowledgeable about their stock and make you feel valued and welcome. As this is a specialist shop the items on sale are not cheap, but that’s to be expected. This is a great little shop.

Rennie’s Arts and Crafts is the ideal shop for art lovers. They sell everything you can imagine associated with art. Since I was a keen artist myself back at school, I was a big fan of this shop as I often could find that perfect set of pencils or paintbrushes. It was also important that I bought quality equipment to ensure the best results so this is exactly what I got at Rennie’s, even though it meant paying a little more. In addition to this, they sell a delightful array of gifts, paintings, and arty accessories for the perfect present. You won’t find a shop in the city like this; it is a very concentrated arts and crafts shop.

Rennies Gallery is attached to the very popular Rennies Arts and Crafts. It offers a range of artworks from hand made greetings cards and prints to one of sculptures and paintings by local artists. The art on offer is of a high standard and if your looking for a beautiful addition to form the centrepiece of a room or just to have then this is a good place to start. The range on offer caters to most budgets so you should easily find something your after and the staff seem quite well educated on the subject so there assistance is usually quite useful. The framing service they offer is also much better than I have seen further down the road at Art@Home.

Housed in a beautiful art deco space next to Rennies Art Gallery, Rennies Arts & Crafts is a family run business that has been supplying painters and craft-makers for the last three decades. Like all art shops these days, the prices are steep so it helps that they have a wide selection of everything from canvases, acrylics and paint brushes to card, portfolios and letraset. Students get 10% off and there’s a designated area promoting local artists, studios and workshops.

It’s obviously hard for any reviewer to go the whole hog and give this place 5 stars because it’s just an art suplliers after all, but as the sole supplier of the city’s arts and crafts items it probably deserves more praise. For me however Rennie’s reeks of middle class sunday painters who will just have a dabble with a brush once they have finished with The Guardian. The selection is very extensive with everything from oil based paints, acrylics and waters to all sorts of papers and cards, pencils and brushes. The prices on the other hand are not cheap. This is hardly struggling artist friendly and you will rarely see the street artists and creatives changing the face of Liverpool buying their gear in bulk from here — it is aimed at those with an expensive hobby. And all of this is sort of reflected in the gallery next door. Largely figuratively based pieces in a Vetriano style you are hardly going to find anything cutting edge or unique but Rennie’s does stock a lot of original pieces available to take off the shelf.
