Great décor, underground gothicky, skulls, deathophilic walls but in a most cool way. Group sitting areas behind prison bars, nice cocktails, staff average just met the one girl. Went on Sunday, can see this place being pretty cool and packed on weekends!

Uma noite para dar uma voltinha pela cidade e o que descobrimos? Um bar que está escondido em Liverpool mas deveria estar em destaque por aí! Entramos, já era tarde e não tinha ninguém. Motivo? Um mistério, nunca consegui chegar a alguma conclusão. Sentamos no bar, onde os banquinhos tem forma de sela(divertido no começo mas meio desconfortável depois, convenhamos) e procuramos no cardápio algo. Vendo nossa duvida, o barman resolveu ajudar: depois de descobrir que eu gostava de whisky, preparou para mim o melhor drink que eu já tomei na vida! O nome eu já esqueci, confesso, mas ele era feito de Jameson, Guinness, horchata e água de hibisco. Música boa, drink melhor ainda. Se um dia passar pela cidade, procure o Maya e prove esse drink incrível!

Walking into Maya instantly feels like entering an exclusive and rather private bar. Rather small with several shadowy corners, Maya provides a comfortable atmosphere and an eclectic range of music covering reggae, hip-hop, funk and jazz amongst other genres. Together with an exclusive range of cocktails, many of them tequila based, Maya is definitely worth a visit or three.

As a fully fledged Manchester resident it’s been a few years since I’ve been out in my home city and have got to say I really enjoyed all of the new bars I was taken to, but of all of them Maya was the best. This place is situated underneath Lucha Libre and continues the mexican(dia de los muertos) vibe from the restaurant above. Really liked the range of cocktails in this place, the décor was cool and the music was great… best of all they serve my favourite beer, Pacifico. I’ll deffo be going back to Maya and wish they’d open a sister bar in Manchester so that I can stumble back home afterwards. By the way, a lot of the details I’ve entered for this place(i.e. address, phone) are for Lucha Libre as it’s difficult to find information about the bar online.
