Alas, the Italian Bistro is now Quick Chef… This restaurant used to attract the Philharmonic crowds back in the days before there were other options for places to eat in the area. The owner, Pierro, and his trusty sidekick, Pam, would know most customers not only on first name terms, but also be able to give you a full background history if you asked them. I did a brief stint waitressing here, and soon got to know all the regulars. Mr and Mrs Lewises(as Pierro called them) would come in every night after parking their car on the double yellows right outside, and it was the staff’s job to not only serve everyone, but keep an eye out for traffic wardens just in case. Of course, neither of them had a proper license — they’d been driving since the war and no one had ever bothered to check. They were both pushing 90 and could barely see or hear, so god knows how they managed to keep coming back unscathed. Many people were upset when the bistro was sold, if only for the fact that they’d been coming there so long they hardly had to pay for food any more(Pierro was always generous to a fault). Still, the Quick Chef probably does better business than the bistro ever did.
