We stopped at this place on Sunday afternoon prior to taking the ferry to Ireland. They have a very eclectic menu and we were determined to get traditional British fish and chips. The cod was fresh, and battered while we watched. The smell was amazing. The chips and fish were malted and salted prior to wrapping in paper. We went to a local park to enjoy as the restaurant is only take away. The paper absorbed much of the grease. The cod was crispy and flavorful. The malt vinegar complimented the batter. The chips were soft, and not the high point but they weren’t bad. This was an affordable, flavorful meal.

I am happy to say I will be living above Crispy Cod fish and chip shop next year, and although it wasn’t the main reason I chose this location having such a good quality fish and chip shop so nearby certainly helped to sway me. One of my favourite things about Crispy cod is the variety it is a Chinese, a pizzeria and a variety of other food types thrown into one place with great results. The staff are always fast and friendly and the prices are competitive with most other chip shops but with better results(Fish and Chips is around two pounds seventy). I have never been let down by Crispy Cod and have always enjoyed my meal, even better the place is light and always clean and tidy. The restaurant is in a handy location not far from the city centre on London Road and is great if you are out and about and need a quick. I have read the criticisms aimed at Crispy Cod however I believe these to be unfair, yes there is a mish mash of food within the establishment(they even serve Greek food) but I believe that under the pressure of such demand the food is admirable and always enjoyable. Try Crispy Cod whether your fancy a good old fish and chips or something a little bit different.

The crispy cod serves is a confusion of many different cuisines. Serving burgers, kebabs, Chinese food, fish and chips, pizza and Greek dishes all over the same counter. All can be eaten in the massive expanse of indoor seating, or taken away to be consumed at your leisure. The food is a bit hit and miss, whilst I had a sausage dinner(sausage and chips, mushy peas and gravy), one of my friends had a suspect beef chow mein dish and found it to taste more like a kebab than Chinese. Indeed the meat in it seemed to be Donna meat! The other friend with us at the time had a ‘Greek’ dish and declared it to be the worst tasting Greek food she had ever had. Hence I think that the crispy cod should have probably stuck to what it is best at and that is fish and chip meals. The staff do well to remember so many dishes and the service is brisk as you could expect from what is basically a fish and chip shop. There is nothing special about the prices, as they charge exactly what you might expect. The crispy cod is worth a visit if your after fish and chips or a sausage dinner, however if your after the chines or Greek dishes I would suggest you look elsewhere for somewhere that specialises in these.

If you like Greek and Cypriot food then you will enjoy visiting here. Its popular with students who come for the games(talvi), frappé and Greek Nova TV. Close to TJ Huges, The Crispy Cod is not just a Fish and Chip restaurant but cater to a wide range of tastes: Chinese, Pizza, Kebabs, Burgers etc. They have a good selection of garlic bread which could be cheaper. If I want fish and chips then I prefer to go to other places that specialise in just that. The restaurant looks cool with a retro American look — funky neon signs and shiny metal chairs. I’ve not eaten here since the restaurant was taken over. Check out the Famous Sotos on Facebook
