We were in Liverpool for four days and ate here twice. Lovely friendly restaurant and excellent food at very reasonable prices. If you want a good ‘taster’ have the meze. Ouzo just £3 a shot. Kourtaki retsina tasty and a snip at £15.50. We have to be back on November 5th and have already booked a table. Kleftico that day. Looking forward to it already.

This one is all on its own beside a rundown off-license, without even so much as a neighborhood local to keep it company. We live nearby and decided to give it a try; the result was very satisfying. The pita, taramosalata and houmous were nice. The mussels weren’t particularly fresh, but the sauce was delicious. The Greek salad was what you might expect, with the welcome addition of giant chunks of feta. The kalamarakia were fresh. The spanikopita and pastourma were small but nicely done. The keftedakia were superb. Another standout was the Greek yoghurt with honey, easily the best yoghurt I’ve had. The owner threw in some complimentary(and excellent) baklava and kataifi as well, which was a nice touch. Three minor complaints: –The addition of coriander as a garnish to almost everything, probably an English influence. We will ask them to forgo it next time around. –Limited selection of wine by the glass. I tried a glass of house red and rose; neither were terribly impressive. –A somewhat pricey menu, even considering the excellent quality, if one prefers to order a number of small plates(i.e. taverna style), instead of the standard main+appetizer. We’ll try the latter next time. Our server was helpful and attentive, and the casual ambiance was perfect. We went at 8pm on a Thursday night and found it very quiet. This is clearly an under-appreciated gem, no doubt because of its less than stellar location in the middle of a food desert. It would be worth a cab ride, however. Highly recommended.

Sometimes, if you hop a taxi to the Bacchus Taverna, some cab drivers will be confused as to where you want to be taken. However, mention the old Frank’s Café and those cabbies will soon on the same wavelength as to what you mean, although they may be surprised as to how it has changed over the years. The Greek eatery near Waterloo Dock offers an intimate atmosphere and exquisite cuisine, something perhaps overviewed due to its proximity from the heart of Liverpool city centre. Diners will be treated to food of the highest quality at the Bacchus Taverna and is arguably one of little better restaurants for family occasions and, while maybe looking less than a Michelin-star destination with features that show the building’s past, the fresh food and high quality menu is impressive. However, if you are looking for a nice place to eat without making your bank manager cry then this is the right place. For example, the generous Mezedes banquet, which includes four courses of the restaurant’s finest cuisine and costs £19.50 per person. Some might look at the prices of some main dishes and think it to be a bit pricey, but the portions are generous and they never let customers down on standards. Above all, diners will be treated to mix, fine wine, excellent food, exemplary service and a warm atmosphere. Well worth a visit!

Ah yes yes yes, another healthy offering of a privately owned family restaurant, we all know how much I love these. This particular Greek offering is located outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre and thus is more intimate an experience. Forget waht your inhibitions are about the«kebab» and give their Souvlakia Kebabs a whirl. Trust me you won’t regret it. I also tried the sea food platter which was delicious and consisted of smoked salmon, mackerel, taramosalata, cocktail prawns, pickled octopus, crab and caviar garnished with lettuce and parsley. Is that delightful or is that delightful. There are just so many mouth watering options this place will have you coming back for more. Even if you are a vegan they can cater for you. I had some of my friend’s Mosaka and normally I’m not too pleased with the vegetarian dishes but this one I did fancy. The Mosaka comprises of layered potatoes aubergines and courgettes topped with cheese sauce cooked in individual ceramic dish which gives it a unique and tasty flavor. To add to all this the prices are very reasonable and normally it will set you back less than £20 per person which is fantastic given the generous portions of food you receive. This is one Taverna I will be paying a visit again in the near future, why don’t you have a gander good people!

Bacchus Taverna is a family-run Greek restaurant just slightly out of central Liverpool town by Waterloo Dock. The service is very friendly, with staff all adept at offering recommendations and explaining ingredients. It’s also very family oriented, unsurprising given its origins, and children are given a very warm welcome too. It’s definitely authentically Greek, remarkably cheap too and the portions are generous with plentiful choices. It’s quite rustic and rough n’ ready which adds heaps to its charm too. If our inexplicably dull, humid and surprisingly early summer is getting you down this is certainly a place that’ll inject a little Mediterranean sunshine into your life. Be sure to make the additional journey to check it out!

Family run greek restaurant just by waterloo dock slightly out of town. Very popular with those in the know who want authentic food at a good price. Excellent menu with all food fresh and tasty. Not cheap cheap but reasonably priced and good portions. I thnk one of the best greek restaurants in liverpool. Service is friendly. If you want refined fine dining don’t go but if you want great food, child friendly and a fantastic atmosphere try it
