Anyone expecting a fast food joint themed after Brian Connolly creation Larry the Loafer is heading for disappointment. For everyone else they will be thrilled to happen upon a quant and well loved sandwich shoppe. The queue that reaches out of the door tells you that Loafers is most definitely not Lichfield’s best kept secret. Offering made to order sandwiches, baguettes and wraps to hungry shoppers just feet away from Macdonalds or Boots meal deals you could be forgiven for wondering why it is so popular? The answer is simple, this is a classy establishment offering good high quality food on the go. Loafers is the lovechild of Subway and the Edwardian Tea Rooms. Instead of meatballs and chicken slices you get duck in plum sauce, or bacon and brie as well as old faves like roast beef or Chicken Tikka. The bread is made on site and the smells in the shop are worth the visit alone. Queuing time is just enough to allow your party time to work out which taste combination to go for. You feel very special opening your little sandwich packet, sealed with a well placed Loafers sticker in place of a wax seal. There is something delightfully old school about the experience. Offering well priced meal deals and a selection of cookies, crisps and drinks to accompany your sandwich this is a one stop shop for your picnic in the nearby Beacon park. Following a change in premises there is now a small seating area, but to be honest if possible Loafers treats are best enjoyed outdoors.
