George & Dragon

Like many of the pubs that I review, The George & Dragon was discovered by
. Situated within walking distance of the lovely Beacon Park in Lichfield, this delightful old pub is both dog and people friendly. It offers a very simple, tasty and affordable lunch time menu which offers excellent value for money. Choosing from panini’s or crusty rolls, all served with side salad, there is actually plenty of choice, and the food really is delicious.
Another perk was that the latte was decent, served in a glass and, with a packet of rather srummy biscuits too! Bonus!
A friendly pub with really pleasant décor, and well worth a visit.

This is a great little pub in one of England’s great little cities.
Situated less than a five minute walk away from Lichfield’s historic Cathedral and only ten minutes away from the city centre, train station and Lichfield Garrick Theatre the George and Dragon is a lovely spot you have to stop off at!
The pub is split into two rooms. If you choose the door on the left you’ll enter a calming world of dominoes and comfy chairs. The dinky round bar in the centre holds several different ale pumps for you to try and though the menu is limited, what they do have on offer is to a great standard and at an even greater price. I recently had the Ploughman’s for lunch and the cheese was practically falling off my plate. I’ll never complain about having too much cheese!
By choosing the room on the right you feel the buzz before you have started to push the door open. After getting a drink you are either putting some banging tunes on the jukebox, getting competitive throwing some arrows in the darts area or just chatting with one of the locals at the bar.
When the weather is good or at best dry, the garden here has to be taken advantage of. Whether you want to pop out for a pub picnic, gather up some friends to eat through one of the summer BBQ’s that take place here, or if you just want to relax with a blanket and refreshing juice the George and Dragon is the place to be.
Don’t forget to bring your camera as the views of the Cathedral and beyond are unparallelled!
