This is an AMAZING pub — just as pubs should be. Kooky, cosy, family friendly and just lovely and warm. We got a coffee and the staff were REALLY friendly and lovely. I love the décor here — surfboard on the ceiling was a fun touch, and the story behind the pub is sad, haunting and interesting(look it up). I want to come back here again, the view from outside is great, not just the eagle protruding from the pub but the amazing cliffs to its right. I would also like to try the food here sometime.

Let’s do this review«old skool»(aka clichéd)… Cons: * Décor somewhat cluttered for my tastes. * Food at the upper end of the acceptable pub food scale(£12 –1£15 per main, on average). Pros: * Staff friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable of the beers. * Talking of the beers, a good selection of ales and non-typical lagers. * Food very good. * Nice sized beer garden. All in all, a nice pub, that is worth a visit, but probably not if you’re on a budget.

The Snowdrop Inn is a proper boozer, tucked away on the edge of Lewes. It’s a little difficult to get to and parking is horrendous but it’s worth persevering. The pub itself is well laid out with a square bar in the centre and lots of tables squeezed in haphazardly which make getting to the loo’s a bit of an adventure! There is also an upstairs area, accessed via a very steep and narrow spiral staircase. I didn’t investigate this time but apparently the area is nice, if a little treacherous, especially after a few vinos! The menu is very extensive, so much so that it’s almost impossible to choose a dish. There are loads of veggie options as well, so useful if you’re not a meat fan. I went for the lamb tangine but unfortunately they had run out, so I plumped for the roasted pepper and spinach risotto with stinging nettle pesto instead. A tasty dish, served with a couple of crispy goats cheese balls — ideally there would have been more of these but the flavour combinations were good and I was especially impressed with the pesto. Pretty much all of the main courses were less than a tenner as well so perfect for those on a budget. For pudding I went for the Banoffee Pie. Tasty, but I have to say it mainly consisted of cream, the other ingredients were a bit lacking. There are plenty of bar staff so getting served isn’t an issue. No table service, order at the bar. Overall, a great atmosphere, good food with loads of choice, and all pretty good value.

Since the recent takeover of the pub by the owner’s of the Hop Poles in Brighton, this local has turned into a very popular place to eat. All of the dishes served are fantastic, and on most nights you are treated to some local live music. The owners are obviously using this pub as an opportunity to sell many different ales, and beers, with a wide variety of drafts available. All are fantastic and well chosen. If you’re looking for a big night in a pub drinking, you may be better off elsewhere in Lewes.

What a lovely boozer! I turned up here one sunny summer afternoon, with kids and dogs in tow — all were made to feel very welcome, which is a rarity at times! The food is GORGEOUS! We had a late Sunday roast, and it was beautifully prepared. They also offered an alternative menu, which suits the odd bods who don’t go roast-tastic on Sundays! The pub is nicely split into sections, so you are likely to find a corner that suits. There was a box of toys provided for the little-uns, and a menu of dog treats. The staff were friendly, and very knowledgeable about the wine list. They also serve a range of local ales, and a swathe of lagers. Take a walk around the town, and end up here for a bite and a sip — you won’t regret it!

This is a nice pub, brought to you by those in charge of Brighton’s, The Eagle and Hop Poles. Having only opened in late 2009, the pub has kept many of the features that were present under the previous ownership. It is far more British in appearance that I would’ve expected given the other two pubs within the family, this setting, while intentionally homely and comforting, doesn’t quite hit the expected notes. This pub straddles the divide of very traditional and gastropub, but i’m not sure it quite succeeds, instead feeling a little bit dated but expensive.

The Snowdrop is one of those well kept secrets of Lewes. Rather than on the high street, it’s located down by the boat dock, overlooking the chalk cliffs. Without shadow of a doubt, one of the best pubs in the town. They serve great food(especially the lovely Sunday roasts) and have an impressive range of ales and speciality beers on tap. The bar is situated as an island in the centre of the room and there is also a spiral staircase to more seating and big tables upstairs. They play a good range of alternative music and the staff and chefs are spot on. You will usually get to have a little chat with the chef(assuming he isn’t rushed off his feet) as they serve the food directly from the kitchen. There is also a very nice garden, complete with pond to relax in on balmy days. If you haven’t been here before, I would recommend checking out a route planner as it is a little way out of town, but still easily walkable. I reckon you will be pleasantly surprised if you make the effort
