This pub Is tactfully placed right outside the infamous Tropical World. Passing this place on the way to the tourist attraction, we made an oath to skip the Tropical World Café and head here afterwards. The building is beautiful, both inside and out. Inside several open fireplaces burned next to comfy leather sofas. which was a tad smokey. Bypassing the large plentiful bar we sat ourselves in the corner(this place is huge!). Once seated I could take in the beautiful antique wood and collectibles. On the walls hung old tiles and photographs and the ocassional bed warmer. Dangling from the ceiling were vintage lampshades. I felt at home. Sending him to the bar to order a cherry leifman. I browsed the plentiful menu. This was essentially posh pub grub at a generic £5 a starter and £10−15 for a main. It took me awhile to decide… the languistines and mussels, squid and chorizo, beetroot tartatan, sea bass and other dishes all sounded good. Himself ordered the fish and chips and I went for garlic cheesey mushrooms and chorizo squid. The waiter was really pleasant who first provided us with a large wooden carrier laden with various condiments. The food soon followed. My squid was as tender as you like, flavoured nicely by the chorizo. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection, however the sauce had a little excess Oil. a little bit of kitchen roll to rest the mushrooms before adding to the epic cheese sauce would have made a big difference. still tasty though. the fish and chips were an epic portion, and the home made double dipped chips were divine. Overall, I really loved the ambience of this pub and its décor. The food was creative and tasty and service was good. The bar also had a nice range of ales and beers. I bet a Sunday carvery here would tick all the boxes too.

This is one of my favourite pubs in Leeds. It has that pub-in-the-country feel to it, despite being a 10 minute drive from the city centre. It’s located in the rather well-to-do area of Roundhay so you can expect to see expensive cars in the car park and hear the posh version of the Leeds accent(yes, there is one). Even though I’m not exactly loaded, I used to frequent the ‘Fox as it’s one of the few pubs on the outskirts of the city that boast a nice atmosphere and zero chav scum. It’s a while since I was last there so I just hope that hasn’t changed. Maintaining slightly higher drinks /food prices should still be doing the trick though. The food is great here — mainly traditional English grub, well presented and full of flavour and as it’s one of those dimly lit places with candles and log fires, it’s perfect for a romantic meal.

Killed a very enjoyable hour here by myself one early evening. Was surprised the bar was practically empty though. Is this not a good place for colleagues to share an after work cocktail? Bartender pulled a decent local lager for me and I ordered the baked brie starter(with caramelized onions). Note that the food options in the bar area are quite limited which is a pity as the space is rustic and warm and inviting and I’d like to be able to come in, order a drink and nibble. Started was lovely and I’d order it again. Limited car parking in the rear of the building.

My other«local», although a bit further off, and a rather upmarket pub it is. The food is good, the beer selection wide and varied, and the prices not too bitey. I was lucky to visit the place off-peak from the Tropical World season, so it was nice and quiet. Although it must get busy on weekends and good weather days, since it’s a few steps away from the park! I’ve noticed the mixed reviews, but since I’ve only been once, my first impression was very favourable. Perhaps the one downside was that, despite there being few customers, the food took an unprecedentedly long time to arrive. But you cannot argue that it looks lovely from the outside and in!

Came here out of a spare of the moment decision as it looked quite nice from the outside. Went in and noticed a long queue with a lot of children and parents waiting for tables. We bypassed these people and wait straight into the bar area to order a few drinks. I fancied some chips — however I wasn’t allowed as I was on a small table in the bar and it was classed as restaurant food. We spoke to one of the waitresses who said if we moved to a high table — still being in the bar area we could order just chips. Went to order and pay for the food however the barman said their would be a 45 minute wait for food — even for chips. I respect the fact that they were busy but clearly even the people in the restaurant were complaining to members of staff too on their waiting time and when they got their food it was cold and had to send it back. All I wanted was some chips. They were unhelpful made us move twice to which I didn’t even get my chips, finished my drink and left. It was awful, very badly managed!

My local! I have been frequenting this public house since the days of The Stables and even remember when there used to be a nightclub upstairs and the italian next door. The Roundhay Fox is a great place to warm up in winter or watch the sun go down in the summer. A wonderful place to enjoy a pint of cider in summer and there is a full range of guest beers. There is seating inside, out the front and in the courtyard area to the back of the pub. There is a roaring fire in winter. Food can be a bit hit and miss depending on how busy they are. They do change the menu although it is your standard pub grub. It can be very packed at weekends and for sunday lunch so beware. They will only dogs outside as they are ‘a food establishment’ even though they are right next to a dog walkers paradise.

I’m a frequent visitor, more so because of it’s close proximity to my dwelling rather than being totally enamoured by it. As a previous reviewer mentioned the service is very hit and miss. There appears to be a large turnover of staff and they struggle with the numbers that come through the door due to it’s popular location. The food is always reasonable and realistically priced, drinks are what you would expect of a nice suberb of Leeds and if you sign up offers come through monthly. In the summer it’s heaving as the sun goes down on the front of the building which has a few seats and a great wall to perch on. Worth a visit if you are in the area but they have the monopoly due to the lack of other alcohol serving establishments in the immediate area.
