Have been in here many times for Food and Beverages(well beer … :D) … The food is awesome ! everything from exotic burgers to amazing Sunday lunches, the Fox also brews some really good beers !(Laguna Seca is a personal favourite of mine ! They name their beers after famous race tracks.) Great friendly staff, 5* food, 5* drinks … cheap prices :) Would strongly recommend anyone to try this place out !

This is my local work pub and its perfect for such an establishment. Lovely staff, good selection of drinks, cheap prices and big enough to have room every night I want to go. A OK indeed

Indeed, the food in this place is not their strong point, but I am always happy to try out anywhere that doubles up as a brewery! At The Fox and Newt the brew Rutland Bitter, Cunning Stunt and Dark Siide, and their bar is littered with other guest ales. The best bit is that they certaily don’t cost the earth. Bands often cram themselves in, and when they’re not there is a games room for you to flex your arm and try your hand at a spot of darts. It is by no means living up to its potential, with the décor and overall ambience, but for the great prices, who am I to complain.

The Fox and Newt Brewpub is an establishment desperately trying to attract students but still looks quite old man-ish. Their is a poster saying«we love loud music and students» hanging outside and many signs that advertise live music nights, a pub quiz, pies! and the happy hours. Obviously pies being my ultimate weakness, I popped in for lunch on a rainy afternoon. I ordered a Steak and Fox Ale pie(Fox is their home brewed tipple) with peas for a very dear £3, and nipped off to the loo to dry my soggy face. When I arrived back to my table after only a matter of minutes(if that) my meal had already arrived. I couldn’t see any pie, just a mound of luminous green mushy peas steaming ahead of me. I had to sift through this squidgy mess to find my pie, which was tiny and mostly pastry. I was very disappointed. Despite the awful food, they were saved from a 2 star rating with their ale selection and drinks offers. Happy Hour is 3 — 5pm Monday to Thursday and ALLDAY Saturday and Sunday. This includes selected cask ales, Becks and Strongbow all at £2 per pint. So they’re not all bad. If the cheap tasty booze makes your tummy yearn for some grub I would advise a trip to the sandwich shop next door or one of the nearby restaurants.

When I lived down the road from this pub two years ago it was a dingy looking place, so much so that I never ventured inside despite it being the closest by far to my home. Now, however, the Fox and Newt has undergone a snazzy rebranding as one of Yorkshire’s few brewpubs — a venue that brews its own beer on site. Inside, where I’d previously imagined sticky carpets and nicotine-stained wallpaper, is in fact a bright, airy space with polished floors and comfy chairs. There’s a large main room, where live bands often play, and a snug that’s great for curling up with a pint or two. The beer is the main event here, and while lager drinkers won’t find much behind the bar to inspire them dedicated real ale fans will find plenty to enthuse over, especially — in my opinion — the dark, creamy Clarendon and the rich Nightshade. The clientele tend to be mostly older locals, with a fair few after work drinkers too, and the atmosphere is friendly, more like a country pub than one just a short stroll from the city centre. As the prices are fairly low — around £2.60 a pint — the Fox and Newt is good for real ale drinkers who are fed up of the ‘fashionable rebranding’ of their favourite drink that seems to be taking place in the city centre… and the price tags that come with it.
