This new café in the Hyde Park area looks like a winner. So many of these places come and go or change their interiors and menu every few months that it is great to see somewhere that looks like it’s here to stay. It is in the hub of the student population so will no doubt do well. I was very encouraged by the owner when I started chatting to him about the place the other day. They open really early compared to many of the cafes especially on Hyde Park corner and he seemed certain that the opening hours are consistent. Frustratingly for non-students cafes often vary their opening/closing hours according to the year round fluctuating student population but this is not the case with Coffee Mania. The coffee is good and the menu varied and I have been assured that the pasta is already legendary. From the outside it looks pretty small but once you get inside you can see that it extends quite far back so would be good for a group. They also have free wifi for customers — brilliant if your internet connection fails and you only live round the corner! I hope this place sticks around and isn’t quickly replaced by another pizza take-away outlet.

Before going to the cinema the other day my companion looked extremely tired and so decided to nip over the road to the new coffee house ‘Coffee Mania’(thoughtfully named with caffeine in mind). They bought a take-away coffee for a reasonable price which was actually really good. Apparently the staff were really nice too. For me, when drinking a coffee in an establishment during this time of year, I like to be comfortable. Things like arm chairs and a cosy atmosphere always get points from me. Coffee Mania does look extremely clean and shiney, but is lacking in that comfortable coffee house character.
