The Coconut shack is almost as small as it sounds but this is part of the charm. Tucked away in Hyde Park on the end of a terrace it is very easy to miss unless you pass this way for another reason. I spent ages finding it the first time I came here to meet what I thought would be one friend. When we arrived it turned out I knew half the people in there, which wasn’t hard as there were only about 6 people enjoying their giant cups of tea etc. Squashed in are a couple of sofas and a few tables and chairs. Despite the size, the space is really pleasant to be in and if you’re lucky you could have it all to yourself. They sell sandwiches, tea, coffee and salads but I think the best reason to go to this café would be a breakfast as they close what I would consider early for a café, at 4pm during the week and 3pm on a Saturday.

The Coconut Shack cum Café, still not 100% sure what it’s name properly is, but anyway, it’s absolutely miniscule. Luckily for me, I don’t believe that size is everything, and where coffee comes into play it’s all about the taste. Hidden nicely away in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, Coconut Shack could almost disappear amongst the terraces, and it would were it not for the white coving and door and window frames. Walking inside, you could be forgiven for feeling a bit cramped, but if you grab the space by the window, there’s some low level window seats and tables for two, you should be fine. A large latte will set you back £2 with change, which is fairly inexpensive for coffee these days, and whilst it packs a little punch, not a big one, it has a rather nice creamy texture that makes it latte lovely, but could do with being stronger for me. Feeling naughty and there are pastries, cakes and the odd muffin to add a sweet edge to the tang of the coffee. Really nice staff, nice welcoming manner, lovely coffee, cool milkshakes, good to read the paper and then take the coffee to go, safe yourself from busy periods and escape outside into lots of air and elbow room.

This little café painted light blue brightens up the corner of a row of back-to-backs in the depths of Hyde Park(although the address says Headingly — blatantly the post office has it wrong not me). Fresh pastries and cakes adorn the counter, breakfasts are available all day and there is a choice of sandwiches and hot snacks. This café was newly refurbished café about a year ago, it is clean and the new owners are just as friendly and bubbly as the last. Excellent coffee is served is cozy, comfy surroundings to escape the dreary autumn days or heat of the summer when you can get iced coffee made with real ice cream. Weekend opening time are likey to change to a later mornng time.
