Visited this venue for the first time at the start of May, seeing a well-​attended concert. First impressions — foyer is small, but the staff friendly. There are two places to purchase refreshments, there is the bar, but right next to it there is another bar-​like area which sells soft drinks and ice cream. The queue moved quicker for this, so that’s where I’ll be going in future. In the auditorium, the seats were small and uncomfortable. I had to share a third of mine with the large man next to me. But the sound was good, and overall it was a very positive experience

This theatre appears to have a fantastic range of shows, including the traditional panto at Christmas. The programme often consists of fairly well known acts and comedians, in an attempt to draw in bigger crowds from afar. Inside, the theatre itself is quite large, although it looks mildly amateurish inside. The outside architecture of the building leaves a lot to be desired, in its’ 1960s concrete style fabrication, however, the stage itself is a good size, especially for some of the larger scale productions. There is a bar for mid-​interval drinks, of which pre-​orders can be taken to avoid the massive queues at half time.

The cinema at Royal Spa Centre is a secret gem. They only have one screen, so they show one film per week, one showing time per day. The films are rarely blockbusters, but are not obscure titles either. It’s quite an old cinema, so the seats are not particularly comfortable (I take a cushion with me) and the leg room is stingy — but the cinema is usually so empty you can spread out in the space next to you. The very best feature of the cinema is that nobody talks during the film, long may this continue.
