Not much happening and a very slow market on a Thursday a lot busier on Saturday it is nice to look at

It is sad but Queens Crescent Market is ebbing away into nothingness. What used to be a bustling street of noise and activity has now becoming several stalls dotted along a quiet street. Thursday’s are passable as a market, but still not attractive enough to draw in anything but locals looking for a cheap household bargain. Saturdays are a mere shadow of what it used to be. After talking to a few stall holders, it felt like saying goodbye to family members as they admitted this would probably be the last time they’d be pitching here. The supermarkets and superstores had finally priced them out of their profession. I raise my glass to what was allegedly, London’s first market. RIP!

Queen’s Crescent Market has a very special feel about it. It’s not flashy and I would never send a tourist in its direction but it does represent local communities of London. If you want cheap anything, you’re bound to come across it here. Fabric, flowers, socks, school notebooks, trainers, duffle bags, a butcher, Indian food, a street baker, and the list goes on. The clientele is local only, most stall keepers know their customers by name and everything looks more shabby than chic. While I don’t think I’d be brave enough to buy my pants from a roadside bin, I appreciate the discount floor cleaner and dish sponges. The meat man is a miracle in himself but deserves his own review. If you’re in the area, pop down and have a look for comedic value and cheap essentials. It’s like a blast from the past and I’m a regular customer.
