I’ve had a couple of very satisfactory experiences at this branch of the Gusto chain! Based in the old Est Est Est building next door to Heswall Police Station, this restaurant has fast developed a great reputation for great food, cleanliness and quality! They have a great open plan kitchen, which is always a bonus when you visit a restaurant as it kind of ensures that you’re food is being prepared properly and in a clean environment! They have two great menus, one for lunch and one for evening. Both of which include a selection of meat, veggi and fish dishes, as well as a selection of pizzas from their wooden pizza oven! They have a full bar and also serve a range of tasty house cocktails! They also have a great customer loyalty scheme which offers 20% discount to all members! Definitely worth a try but make sure you ring up and book in advance because this place gets very busy!

I like the Wirral I really do. I grew up coming here so often from South Manchester as a kid. We had quite a sporting rivalry here with few of the local schools. These are posh scousers I was always told! Ah that was a while back, although all this time later the sporting rivalries are still there with some decent sports club in the area and you still always have an old hat repeating the same old line about our valuables bag. Now Gusto in Heswell really is an example of the«posh» nature of the locale. You see geography is everything for this Restaurant chain. You only have to do a bit of research and discover that all other Gusto locations are in disposable income postcodes. Alderly Edge, Knutsford et al are not exactly the, Moss side’s of this world are they? This particular foodie haunt is situated on the main street of the busy village, nestled amongst a diverse range of shops. The restaurant’s killer feature for me is without doubt the fantabulous sun terrace, where one can bask in the sunshine on the rare sunny occasion whilst indulging in their fine cuisine or sipping on a chilled bev at the end of a day’s play. Not that the interior is any less magnificent. Not many restaurants can boast of 200 year old olive trees growing down the centre of their restaurant. You cannot but wow at this feature of the restaurant. The new lunch menu offers fantastic value for money. For just under £9 you can enjoy a main course + a 175ml glass of house red or white, beer or soft drink. Pas mal non? That means digging into your Flattened rump steak with garlic, chilli, peppercorn sea salt and rocket, for a fair price, and what’s more the offer is on until 5pm! Sneaky quick late late lunch is even on the cards at some stage, if you’re on a night out after. Eating is cheating yes I know, but I won’t tell if you won’t. Heswell’s Gusto is warm and inviting the food is of a good standard at prices which won’t blow you away. Well worth a visit indeed!

I’m a member of a group on Facebook entitled ‘stop claiming to be a scouser if you’re from the Wirral’. This doesn’t mean the Wirral is excluded from Merseyside as a whole, just from Scouseland. My mother’s a born and bred Liverpudlian and she agrees. Heck. She’s from Kirkby. Anyway to tip our hats to the Wirral and big it up for once, it’s only fair to check out one of their restaurants. The Gusto chain seems to have taken over a number of Est Est Est branches and this is one of them, a Mediterranean restaurant which focuses primarily on Italian but offers a wide choice of dishes; plenty of veggie options alongside seafood and meat. The service is attentive and friendly, the place has a very welcoming atmosphere and the pizzas are cooked properly in a wood burning oven. The cocktails are also worth writing home about. It can be a little expensive for what it is, but you might well find that the quality of what you get is worth it. It all feels very laid back and welcoming and the open kitchen is always a reassuring sign. It’s one of the best the Wirral has to offer and I for one am glad I tried it. Give it a go, you’ll definitely have a good meal.

Easily the best restaurant in Heswall for food quality and service. Maybe a little on the expensive side but worth it. Edit, 10th October 2011. Had a family meal for five there on Saturday night. Absolute excellence in terms of both the food and the service. We all had different courses, but I must rave about the whole salt baked Sea Bass ! Others had a rib-eye steak, a pizza dish, a chicken dish and Sea Bream. All thoroughly enjoyed, and we had some good starters as well(my roasted mushrooms on a crusty bread with garlic dip), and desserts. Some may feel its a touch expensive, however having recently joined their Dining Club(l also have a Gusto near my Leeds office in Cookridge), I even got 20% off on a Saturday night.(Bill was £126 inc drinks) can be 40% at times if booked on line). I reiterate my assertion on my original post that this is the best food and service in Heswall. Indeed on the Wirral only the Manor at Greasby and the Cowshed at Raby come close. Edit 13th March 2012, Three of us again for dinner, and I have no reason to change my opinion above. In particular Sea Bream and Rump of Lamb both enjoyed, as well as Calamari starter. Excellence all round.

Gusto appears to have taken over all(or most of) the old Est, Est, Est’s and is a lovely restaurant which serves allsorts of dishes from seafood to meat to veggie. The kitchen is open so you can see what the chefs are doing(which is quite a good idea). Nice atmosphere and always busy which is a good sign. Especially at weekends. Can be fairly expensive but I think you will find it is worth it — good meals guaranteed. I have had a small problem with the Didsbury restaurant before which was that our table was not ready in time and we had to wait nearly an hour at the bar. just something to bear in mind.
