We visited Alberto’s because Restaurant 65 was booked. The service is, as others have mentioned, a bit random. We did wait at times, but there is a feeling of camaraderie in the air and Alberto and company are so friendly, it’s hard to fault them. The food was lovely.

I would call it a dining experience. I’ve taken some friends here and we had a great time. The food is delicious. The service is a bit random, but if you give someone a wave they will attend to you. You are made to feel like part of the family. It is one big open space, so it can be noisy, but this does seem to contibute to the atmosphere. Alberto is a character and little off the wall, but to eat here was a pleasure.

Alberto’s is not just a restaurant, he’s a legend in his own lunchtime! The reason why the eponymous Itallian eaterie is always full is that Alberto greets everyone like they are long-lost friends. Whether you are or not you soon feel like one. Alberto’s jokes are as free-fllowing as the Chianti but don’t expect fripparies like bread and balsamic vinegar and a glass of Prosecco for an apéritif. You’ll be served as soon as Alberto or his waiter get round to your table and even then it’s just a plate of bread and butter to keep the wolf from the door! There’s always a clatter of chatter which gives the place a buzz you seldom find anywhere else. The dishes are simple and delicious. My favourites are Spaghetti Vongole and King Prawns in saffron rice. The desserts are pretty good too with the pancakes in hot orange sauce served with vanilla ice cream a mouthwatering winner. We’ve been coming to Alberto’s for 8 years now and never been disappointed.
