Saltwater — check. Open air — check. Sunshine — well, ummm… Even on a cloudy and drizzly day, a swim at Gourock Lido is still fun. There are lanes for serious swimmers and plenty of room for leisure swimmers and splashers. The kids pool was closed when we write there today. There’s also a gym. An adult swim is £3.80 at time of writing. Parking can be tricky, but you can park on the road further down the road.

How was this the first time I went to the Gourock pool??? It’s a salt water pool on the Clyde estuary with stunning views. The pool is heated to 84 degrees so even if the air is cold the pool is not. There is also a smaller«baby» pool for little children but we spent pretty much the entire time in the bigger pool. There are two diving boards(high and low) but note they are only open for stipulated times during the day. Some loungers dot around the pool side and there is a lower terrace with umbrella-ed tables where you could have a snack or lunch. There are large changing facilities with cubicles, lockers(£1 but you get it back) and roasty, toasty showers for when you get out of the nice warm pool! It was only £3.40 for myself and my 3 ½ year old son so the value is crazy good. It’s roughly an hour’s drive from Glasgow and there is a large parking lot as well as street parking. We went on a warm day so the parking lot was quite crowded as was the pool but even still there was plenty of room to swim. I’ve not been but they also do several midnight swims over the summer where you can swim under the stars!

Two summers in a row(I’m going to make a guess at 2003⁄2004) my friends and I were at the Gourock pool 6 out of 7 days of the week even if it threatened to rain. The sea air and the sunshine and ensured I will never forget thee memories. The Gourock Pool is one of very, very(very) few outdoor pools left in the UK. It is situated right on the Clyde coast at the front of the promenade on Gourock’s Albert Road. Having just completed a 1.8million quid investment, the pool looks in good shape to open for the season which is usually May-September, however the Gym on the site is open all year round. The pool is a full size, 25metre outdoor pool filled with salt water and kept at a cozy temperature of 84 degrees F according to the website! Please note, this place gets mobbed, and quite rightly so, during the summer, do ensure you go and a time when you can appreciate the surroundings and Clyde estury views! There is also a diving board here which is probably around 3m high but when you’re standing on top of it feels around 20!(NB, don’t attempt a graceful jump only to belly flop from this height, as I can personally tell you it hurts!). There is a sun deck here for just catching some sun beside the pool, a spectators gallery and a kiddy pool, but perhaps the best thing about the Gourock Pool is the Mignight Swim. This event is not to be missed! Happens around 4⁄5 times during each summer, the pool opens from 9.45pm till half past midnight and you get to swim about under the summer nights sky! By ticket only and definitely should be on the to do list!

Nice outdoor swimming pool. I prefer to go there during the Summer months, as I like to swim in the Sun, and while it is not raining!!! It is the very old and first outdoor Swimming Pool. and it is still there. Even it is nicely placed site.
