I want to own a chocolate shop when I’m older. Partly because of the film Chocolat but also because of wondrous places like Simon Dunn who really play up to what everyone perceives to be their dream chocolate shop. In fact everyone’s dream place, in the world most likely. The chocolate on offer at this independent Chocolatier(based in Stockport with a few others dotted about) includes what we are used to from Thorntons e.g. solid chocolate animals and other shapes for occasions. And they do lean toward the gifty side of the market since for a quick bit most people reach for the nearest 50p Cadburys or Mars product. Hearts, birthday messages in white icing — you can get all that here. They also cater for the wedding market with weddng ‘favours’ with things like Bride iced on. They amazingly have chocolate greetings cards too, an inspired idea. What Simon Dunn really excels at though are their delicious looking, and tasting, handmade individual chocolates placed in gift boxes. For the true chocolate expert, these are really good for people who(comme moi) do not like nuts and think that they destroy the purity of the chocolate. In a box of 48 truffles and pralines there will be plenty to satisfy even the most picky of tastes. The Strawberry ones are literally to die for. The only bone I have to pick with them are that they give my second cousin(a cutie pie toddler) free chocolate sometimes and not me. Am I not adorable enough?
