Food was lovely! But service was very slow! Once we finished and asked for the bill we waited 15 minutes till the billed showed up and then another 10 before we could finally pay! You could also see the kitchen staff getting annoyed that orders weren’t being served quick enough, I would understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t very busy.

I’ll begin by saying this was my first experience of Zizzi on the top floor of the gorgeous princess square. It was absolutely exquisite and I found it very hard to find a single fault! It was a quiet, rainy Monday evening and myself and Tomas, my best friend and fellow(Gordon Ramsey style) food critic, headed down Buchanan street with no intention of going to Zizzi at this point. We arrived at the glass doors at the entrance to Princess Square and the evening wasn’t off to the best start at this point as I made a pathetic attempt to enter through the automatic glass door which to my surprise(and terror) opened out the way instead of in the way. I was smacked right in my midget face by the two doors and I immediately screamed like a little bitch as a result of this! And I was heard by two bystanders, who of course laughed at my misfortune, as did Tomas — and who could blame them. When we gained access to the 19th century Victorian building and graced the top of the escalator, we had not only arrived at the top floor but also at a metaphorical crossroad! To our right the NY American Grill and to our left, Zizzi — we were then torn between the two and faced with a decision so we decided to let Rock Paper Scissors(the three gods) decide where we would eat. Low and behold Zizzi won! We were then instantly greeted by a dark haired and soft spoken gent who greeted us and invited us to choose any table we desired either inside or out of the restaurant. We headed inside and once over the threshold I was instantly in love with the décor and atmosphere which welcomed myself and Toms. We chose a table just beneath some chandeliers which I must say, were hanging comically low and Tomas pointed out that he’d had to duck under them when passing. Tomas is a natural comedian and should do stand up! His style is satire/deadpan and he had me in tears the entire evening! So, after having just enough time to browse the menu of classic Italian favourites we ordered our drinks — the usual two cokes, our staters — I went for the bruschetta, comprised of whole cherry tomatoes topped on fresh Italian bread, seasoned with garlic, herbs, rosemary and sprinkled with Parmesan and Tomas opted for the garlic bread. We also ordered the main courses in unison, I had the spaghetti carbonara with diced bacon as well as one slice of parama ham(unique to Zizzi) also served with fresh sautéed mushrooms. Tomas went for the classic pizza margarita and was kindly asked by our waiter if he would like any toppings on it, which was very considerate! The restaurant was quite on this particular evening, though it was a Monday, we only noticed two other parties of hot chicks in the restaurant — which was a nice touch to the evening! So, when our drinks arrived I was very pleased to discover that the coca-cola was not draught, but in fact straight out of the bottle, which makes a huge difference in my opinion! Then not long after, our starters arrived. Tomas’ was served upon a large plank of rustic looking wood — which appeared to be varnished or something, it was a great finish and well presented if I’m honest. The bruschetta was definitely some of the best I’ve ever had! I was sceptical about ordering it after the last time I order bruschetta in Prezzo I was given steaming pile of green diarrhoea atop a shitty bit of flatbread! I mean what the hell! But none of that in this case, it was classic bruschetta, full of flavour and I even added some of the Zizzi olive oil and balsamic vinegar which really tied the dish together. Tomas’ garlic bread was also delicious, I was given the pleasure of tasting it. Then of course it was on to the main, our plates were set before us and the waiter kindly asked if I wanted Parmesan on the pasta and of course I accepted his offer, he also added that I could have as much I liked, which I felt was a nice touch. Anyway, no surprise the food was perfect. The carbonara was creamy and full of flavour, it had that perfect balance of the saltiness of the parmaham and bacon against the creaminess of the sauce and also the addition of wild mushrooms which resembled psilocybin mushrooms — it’s a dish that I thoroughly recommend! Tomas’ margarita looked delicious as well. The crust was a classic Italian thin crust which is my favourite! Needless to say we loved the entire experience of Zizzi, from the food to the waitstaff everything was on the verge of perfection? Our final package was a very reasonable £32.10 and we decided to leave a gratuity of £7.90 with our waiter, a very well earned tip in Tomas’s opinion and I agree! My only regret of the evening was that we didn’t order dessert.

This was my second time at the Princes Square Zizzi. The first I remember was a poorly chosen Christmas night out, and my main memories of the meal are the fact that the meal took forever to arrive and the lights kept going out! On this occasion it was my friends birthday, so our table for ten was all set out and ready to go. A few of us have O2 Priority which gives you free Proseco and olives, so never ones to turn down a freebie, we asked for these to start with whilst we browsed the menu. These seemed to take forever to arrive, although by the time they did we were ready to order. The menu has a fair selection of your usual Italian fare — pizzas, pastas, salad and a few more interesting options including hanging skewers which my friends opted to try. I went for the skinny pizza primavera(a lighter option of wholemeal pizza base with vegetables and a scattering of goats cheese topping — served with a naked slaw salad). For being a lighter meal this was a good size and it wasn’t very cheesy which was good. Others choose some pizzas, risotto and lasagne and all seemed tasty enough although nothing outstanding. The restaurant was fairly busy on the Saturday night we visited and it wasn’t the quickest service, but we were enjoying the catch up and chatting so it didn’t matter too much. No one had starters yet everyone decided they didn’t want a dessert, but in fact wanted a taste of dessert. Que ordering two desserts with lots of spoons as we sampled the chocolate salted pecan torte and the raspberry rosa. The chocolate torte was very, well chocolately and nice enough, although the taste I had was enough, and if you were to eat a whole thing it would be pretty heavy. The raspberry rosa was the seasonal special and included fruit, sorbet and gelato although none of the mini meringues(apparently they had ran out), which we were drawn to in the first instance. This was nice and refreshing, although again wasn’t particularly memorable. Prices were okay and whilst Zizzi wouldn’t be my first choice, the meal was enjoyable enough and the restaurant made for a good night out.

In short, the food was amazing, but the service less so. Food: The garlic bread and rustic pizzas had the perfect consistency of being soft yet a little crisp and flaky on the edges. Delicious! Service: Our server was a very nice person, but it took 3 – 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at the entrance, and then 50 minutes from the time we ordered until our two pizzas arrived.(And they were fairly standard pizzas — margherita and pepperoni.) This seemed excessively long, and there was never a mention about it coming up except when we proactively asked 40 – 45 minutes into the wait. I’m not sure whether the wait times are the standard practice, but the lack of communication about them was frustrating. So if this is a concern of yours, I would perhaps go elsewhere.

Last time the Portonian and I visited Zizzi it had the wow factor. This time not so. Rating Ange our waitperson’s attention to detail and our needs alone would have resulted in 5 stars. However rating the quality of the food coming from the kitchen merits 2 stars on this occasion. My lunch of classic mushroom pizza had a base that was thin in places and quite thick and doughy elsewhere, and where it was so thick there was no topping on it. There are other great pizza places nearby.

Totally not impressed by the Zizzi we visited in west end of Glasgow. Prices are high and food not reflected the price. Pizza was bland and the bruschetta was awful. Service was poor, no one asked if we required more drinks or if our food was ok. Only good thing I can say is you can watch them make your food from afar. Other Italian places are much better.

It may come as no surprise to you when i say that Princess Square ain’t really my usual stomping ground. This has much to do with scruffy appearance as it has to do with my lack of Dolce & Gabbana handbags and healthy disposable income. This aside, i must, must, must(three must’s, make a note) climb the nearest building and cry forth with from it’s roof top YUM! having chanced upon a rather tasty two for one deal, i dragged the old man(father in law) here for a spot of lunch and a good old nosey. Nosey points: –Cool setting, terrace tables plus interior on the top level… –Very attentive staff, knowledgeable, friendly –Flippin tasty grub Aye so, add all that together and you have a very satisfied belly. We both opted for a Rustic Pizza served on a wooden board, which i must say was damn well tasty. Fresh ingredients, healthy portion, nice bit of fire to it as well. Throw on top of this a fine bottle of… beer and all in all it was a well positive experience. Very happy with the fare here. Nothing stopping me coming back… no…nothing. YUM.

I was luckier than Lisa I guess when my boyfriend treated me to Zizzi’s one night. It was magnifique(I know I’ve used a French word to describe an Italian restaurant but let’s not split hairs; it was pure guid!) And what’s more, it wasn’t as expensive as we thought it’d be! We got some delicious melt-in-your-mouth mozerella breadsticks and kept it simple for the mains — I’m pretty sure my boyfriend got bolognese and I got a spicier pasta option. Everything about the meal was tasty and fresh and the service was wonderful! The wine was lovely and I got advised on a good accompaniment for my dish. Our waitress was very friendly without being omnipresent and attentive while giving us some privacy to be loved-up in peace. Set in the continental, elegant environment of Princes Square, it was a perfect way to spend a cold winter’s evening under the twinkly fairylights and relaxed ambience of Zizzi. It almost transported me out of winter bitten Scotland and out to a summer’s evening in Italy! Absolutely lovely. I felt lavished and spoiled, and in the most ladylike way possible, I wolfed down my meal!

I recently had relatives visiting from England and decided to book a table at Zizzi for dinner one night as everyone loves Italian right? The Princes Square shopping Centre is a lovely location so I thought I couldn’t really go wrong. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The food was fine but it was nothing special and I’m not in a hurry to go back to Zizzi. We were sat on the terrace and it felt like we were miles away from the actual restaurant and other diners! I think our experience might have been more enjoyable had we been able to sit in the actual restaurant which looked much nicer and cozier. There are so many good Italian restaurants in Glasgow that I doubt if I’ll return to Zizzi anytime soon.

Zizzi is probably my favourite Italian restaurant in the city. Although it isn’t the most authentic or family-owned business, you pay about the same as you would for Frankie & Benny’s, and for the comparable price you get a lot more for your money. Everything from the appetisers to the dessert is delicious. The couples sharing starter of cured meats, breadsticks, mozzarella and olives is a must. All of their pasta dishes are great, and the pizzas don’t disappoint. I love their simple spaghetti pomodoro(tomato, basil and a massive chunk of fresh mozzarella), and their calzone especially. Their desserts vary in menu but not in quality. If I could only recommend one it’d be the chocolate melt. You have to order a little early as it takes awhile, but it’s well worth the wait. Service can be a little slow at the new Princes Square location, as the restaurant is fairly spread out and if you’re sitting out on the balcony they tend to be waved down by other customers on their way to you. The inside is lovely and cosy with lots of logs, bottles of wine, and a fireplace. Definitely worth a visit.

Glasgow,
I have been a couple of times to Zizzi’s restaurants and have always found it to serve great Italian food. The Zizzi’s in Princes Square in Glasgow is lovely and the hard working chefs can be seen making your pizzas from scratch from the dining area inside. Although most people would want to sit outside to watch the goings on in Princes Square which can be fun. Overall a good experience but my advice would be to book ahead at peak times as it can be very busy unless you are prepared to wait.
