Ach, I really don’t know. The idea of Blue Monday is so appealing that the Amigo and I went to satisfy our sushi craving, but every single time I come to Yo Sushi I leave feeling full, but empty inside. Hollow. Sad and craving proper sushi. Is it me, or do we have limited options for good, affordable sushi here in our city? Urgh. I just think that for the quality of sushi you get, and having to wait for the actual dish you want to conveyor-belt past you before somebody else grabs it before you can, and the setting, is just not for me. Yes, you can order it, but then what’s the point in coming here? Yes it’s a fun addition to eating, because you don’t know when you’ll get your hands on the dish, but meh. What also sways me to not loving this place is that the Edamame are cold. I understand why, but personally, I like warm edamame. I suppose their takeaway boxes are fine, but honestly, I really hope that I have finally learnt my lesson and won’t come back here anytime soon, just because of that empty and dissatisfied feeling I get when I walk out of this place.

Really friendly staff who is always ready to serve at a push of a button, literally. The prices go from £1.70 to £6 and(the sumo bowls cost £8 which is good for the amount of food you get in it) water is £1.20 still or sparkling which you only pay for once. Never had to wait long for a dish and even on a Saturday they do there best to acomadate everyone. Just remember to order your hot dishes first as they tent to take a little longer, There drink very in price. And with there blue Monday’s it’s £2.70 on most of the dishes so no more Monday blues(sorry for the bad joke)

Don’t go here if you’re really hungry. I know I am used to US dollars versus the GBP but I have never spent so much money on sushi and still hungry! And I looove sushi! Between my husband and I we ate $ 78(around 50GBP)! The concept of Yo Sushi is fun but the portions are too small for the prices. I just stopped eating because I realized how much money I was about to spend and there also wasn’t a lot of variety in sushi. On a positive note, the waitress was extremely nice and helpful in explaining the menu since it was our first time at the restaurant.

Really fun and funky place for a quick quirky munch. I love that you don’t have to book– if you don’t mind a short wait. This wee treat has great clean and fresh décor with white and neon city style. The famous conveyor belt is super good fun and adds some excitement to your meal! The service(you press a button on your table to get a member of waiting staff’s attention) wasn’t lightning quick, the place was very busy though. Blue Mondays are great with many popular hot and cold dishes only £2.70 each we only spent £31.70 for three of us. The desserts are a bit overpriced at roughly £4-£4.50 each– there are only 2 options on the Blue Monday menu of fruit or pancakes, anything else is on the main menu. I enjoy visiting here, especially if I’m in a hurry and dashing in between shops– there’s even a cute secret-style entrance to House of Fraser from inside the store!

Other than the fun factor of conveyor belt sushi, this place really has none else. Once we get beyond the realisation that this is no sushi, one becomes bewildered at the scarily unhygienic mode of handling the raw fish. And I know we are in Scotland so there salmon is in abundance. but at a sushi restaurant I would like to see more of a selection on the belt than the meagre minimum. What was on the belt was okay to disappointing. While most dishes were ordered, the quality of this place was sad. The best part was the service, good waitstaff who were quick and helpful. Alas, service and the cute but quirky décor is not enough to patch up this sushi shack.

Who’d have thunk it! Yo Sushi was my first ever Unilocal review, almost a year ago! So I figure a brief update is in order. I still love it. Everything I said in my original still stands — but I find myself yearning for the chicken katsu more now(sooo good!). I’ve had their lunchbox things a few times — really good value and makes a nice change to a sandwich at lunch. I’ve decided this really deserves the 5 th star. I’ve never had anything I didn’t like here and the service has always been great. I grudge paying for water from the wee tap at your table — but if you ask them to bring you a glass of tap water, you won’t be charged.

Picked up a salmon to go box for lunch today and was super impressed. It was £5.50 for a mixture of the sashimi salmon on rice and mini salmon iso rolls. The salmon was delicious. The box also had a small salad, just a few lettuce leaves and endamame, and I would have loved to have had a bit more of this. I thought it was great value for fresh sushi versus the offers from other places in the city centre such as M&S. The guy who served me was lovely and had a chat with me about the yoga class I’d just been too. I’ll definitely pop back soon for some more sushi to go :)

Sushi’s massive all over the world, go to america and there’s sushi billboards everywhere. In Italy I saw nearly as many sushi restaurants as pizza parlours. But for some reason it’s not really taken off yet in the UK. Yo Sushi have come a long and tried to tap into this gap in the market with their funky designed restaurants. And people love it, I mean who doesn’t want to pretend they know how to use chop sticks and have their dinner arrive to them on a conveyor belt? The paying system is something I’ve never seen before and I think it’s pretty cool. You add up your plates at the end and each plate’s price depends on what colour it is. Plates range from £1.90-£6 starting with green plates, the cheapest and typically the most unexciting, like a handful of edamine beans. Yellows are the dearest and the most interesting. Take as many plates as you like but be warned the cost mounts up quickly. On the upside there’s free water, wasabi and pickled ginger at your table, so fill your boots. Once the novelty wears off I realised that the sushi is aggressively average. It’s not by any means the worst sushi I’ve ever had and it’s by no means the best either. As I said sushi’s not popular here so if you’re new to this then you will probably think that it’s amazing. But go anywhere else in the world and try some decent sushi, even the super market stuff, and it will be a lot better than what you’ll get in here. I’m sure sushi will explode in the UK some day but until then, I guess Yo will have to do.

This is one of my favourite fun places to eat in Glasgow. I always tell people. If a Hit Man was looking for me, he’d find me here or Starbucks. Great p, ace for adults. And a great place if you have kids, as the small bowls might be enough to fill them up. The bowls are colour coded for price. It’s not all sushi. There are hot foods too. The Dashi is nice. You get as many refills as you can handle. Great place.

I brought my boyfriend to Yo Sushi for his birthday, we both love sushi, and were pretty impressed! It was fun, the food was good, and the staff were really friendly(which isn’t always a given in Glasgow). The only downsides were the price, it ended up being pretty expensive(you pay by the plate/type) and the selection of actual fish sushi — although I find this common here. I would definitely recommend Yo Sushi for a sushi craving and fun night out, the conveyor belt is great and you can sit in a table or at the bar!

I used to like it here but only for the duck on the pink plates. But the reason for the three star review is the fact that the sumo sunday is not as good as it once was. These days there is more red taped involved in partaking in a sumo sunday than a tax return form. I just want to be a slob and get fat without the complexity of rules. Leave me be! You could go here if you wanted sushi but to be honest there are better places in glasgow for this, service is efficient however and you can watch them cook if you sit in the right place.

Perfect after work snack. Light and healthy, plus you choose how much you want to eat. Pick off the conveyor belt or order from the menu, it’s great just watching all the yummy dishes pass by grabbing what you fancy. Not a 5 due to our noodles being slightly burnt but that’s just a one off. Will be back again soon, second time this week already!

Can’t quite believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet! I’m a total Yo! Sushi nerd. Whether it’s lunch with a pal, a quick bite before the cinema or just being enticed in by the wonderful smells whilst shopping alone… It’s always a winner. Love the laid back atmosphere and service in here, love being able to control my portions, love the dishes, love the payment system. Everything is so quick and stress free. Favourite dishes have to be the salmon dragon rolls(my mouth is watering just thinking of them!), chicken gyozas and beef tataki. I like mostly everything though, which can prove quite dangerous. Have been in for sumo Sundays a few times, back when it was all you can eat for £18. The amount of plates consumed was pretty obscene. You have a little button on your table to get the staff’s attention if you need to order anything from the menu. IT’s £1.20 for unlimited filtered water and if you buy the miso soup, there’s free refills. You can even have a nice Japanese beer or glass of fizz if you so desire. Fizz and sushi is a tremendous combo! Blue Mondays mean £2.50 for everything on the conveyor belt, but if you order from the Blue Mondays menu, it’s £2.50 too. Think they may be doing Blue Thursdays now too for a while… Happy days! Have hardly ever had to wait for a table and have used their takeaway service many a time. They do cool bento boxes for this purpose with sushi, fruit etc in them. Perfect for sitting in the sunshine on your lunch break. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this place. It just makes me smile! SUSHIISAWESOME!

Service was amazing, food was amazing, heaps of vegan and vegetarian options. Will be returning! I would suggest Inari & Chive Futomaki is as good as any I have ever had. It’s really fun, bright, clean and just generally kick ass. The lovely guy who served us is the best.

What do you mean, I’ve never written a review for Yo Sushi??! I’m astonished, I’m in here at least once a month(and it would be more often if I worked in the city centre). First up I have to thank Kirsty for taking me here for my first ever sushi experience. I thank her every time we go too because whilst you can argue there are better sushi restaurants around, I’ve fallen head over heels for sushi since then. This Yo outlet is usually pretty busy, so expect a wait for a table during peak times. I have been in later in the evenings and not had any problems getting a seat so it might just be down to luck. The premise of Yo Sushi is simple. You can pick your own dishes from the conveyor belt, or order fresh dishes from the menu. We usually end up with a mixture of both, some Nigiri(fish placed over a rice bundle) from the conveyor and some handrolls(rice and fish wrapped up in seaweed sheets) or a hot dishes(firecracker rice or, in this branch, the garlic and teriyaki beef which is just HEAVENLY!!!). The dishes are colour coded by price from light green(cheapest) through to dark grey(most expensive). If you don’t like the idea of raw fish there is still plenty of items on the menu, cooked chicken and beef, noodles, soups, even a ‘burger’ these days. If you can’t manage chopsticks, there are alternatives on offer. For me Yo Sushi is a great idea, if I’m really hungry I can order exactly what I want and take my time eating it, if I’m on my own and just a little peckish, I can nip in and have two or three dishes and be done in 20 minutes. The staff are all friendly and will talk you through how things work, and part of my love is watching the chefs working in the kitchen area, particularly as they slice up the fish and prepare the sushi — I’ve been on a sushi making class and it’s not easy! I could go on and on about Yo Sushi, it’s hard to fault. This particularly branch could do with a little TLC(missing lock on the toilet door) but the food is always fresh and I’ve never had a bad experience there in the past couple of years). Ohh and you MUST try the chocolate mochi! Downsides: it is on the pricey side.

I love this place!!! It’s like cuddling a wee kitten and stroking it’s kitten fur. That’s how much I like this place. I cannot believe I haven’t reviewed this awesome place already. I love the atmosphere, I love the novelty and I love the food. I’m a big fan of Japanese food and love trying different flavours and this is ideal as everything comes in little dishes. They come in various colours which relate to various prices of the dish. I love the pink dishes but it’s not one to choose many of. The blue dishes are the cheapest at £2.50, the menu tells you all the prices of the coloured dishes. The wee dishes travel round the whole of the restaurant, which is based in the ground floor of House of Frasers. They are on a conveyor belt and you can help yourself as they go round. Oh, how I help self. SOMEBODYSTOPME!!! I do remember one time I went with my Auntie and we were seated at the bar and the conveyor belt got jammed with plates and I was trying to release them. I felt like I was having a ‘I Love Lucy’ moment. I was good and didn’t eat any of the food. Hehe! The kitchen is based in the middle of the restaurant and it’s interesting watching them. You often end up wondering what on earth they are cooking some of the time. I’m sure it looked liked one the of chefs deep fried fish bits, I’m sure I saw shiny skin, emptied into a big bowl and just left it sitting. I was so curious. What is it??? Oh my frustration! Anyway my frustration didn’t last long as soon as I had super delicious food placed in front of me. Some of the food from the menu, especially the hot food, you need to order. You press the button on your table and a pole with light comes on. The table also has still and fizzy water on tap. It used to be free but they now charge. Sad face at that moment of discovery. Oh, it’s best to go on a Monday as they do ‘Blue Monday’ so more dishes come in the blue, so are cheaper. They have been running the ‘January Blues’ promo at the moment with blue dishes available from 6−24th January 2014. Awesome sauce! Back to the food. Nom nom nom nom nom nom! I think that sums it up. Hehe! The staff are always really nice and a good friendly, i.e. not in your coupon all the time. I highly recommend stuffing your face here but watch how many bowls you go through. The staff count up your bowls at the end including your drinks. You then tell the staff member at the till your table number and they give you your total bill. Eep, how much did I eat? Hehe! Enjoy!

Negative! Not a fan! The idea of having your food circle the restaurant is fun enough, but not knowing exactly what is passing you(without having to quickly search through the menu) is not fun. Lucky for us, with a press of a button, a light pops on and a waitress comes over to take your order for fresh food, hot or cold. We ordered veg tempura, rice, noodles, avocado rolls, a veggie hand roll and a salmon hand roll. The veg tempura was tasty enough, but there was hardly enough to excite our taste buds. The rice and the noodles were shockingly mushy, well over cooked and under seasoned. Even the rice in our avocado rolls was mushy and over cooked. I am a huge fan of sushi and this place was a complete let down. On top of the less than exciting food, the soy sauce dishes were crusted with old food, the containers filled with ginger and wasabi looked like they’d been used for years(dirty looking and should be replaced) and the service really wasn’t that great. Next time, when we’re in the mood for sushi, we’ll head to a more authentic Japanese restaurant and leave the chains for the high street.

In Australia, sushi is really easy to find in any food court and it is a super popular lunch option. Here, not so much. I remember seeing Yo Sushi at Silverburn when I first moved here and scoffed at the idea of eating in the middle of a shopping centre and off a belt. I really didn’t trust that the food would be fresh. Fast forward a year or so when I visited with friends and actually really enjoyed the experience, and found the food to be delicious. So my love affair with Yo Sushi began. Martyn M goes here lots and we finally got a lunch arranged. I’ve only been to this store once before and think it’s way nicer to sit in a booth rather than at the counter. We were seated quickly and their blue plates for £2.50 promotion was still on. Initially there wasn’t much going by on the belt that I wanted but then I saw some salmon sashimi — I order this dish every time I go here. I tend to avoid any rice dishes like sushi and instead have the sashimi as I think it’s better value for money. I ordered too much food on this visit — I think I was just excited to hear about Martyn’s trip and got carried away — but I did manage to eat most of it. I tried the hairy prawns which I hadn’t had before — prawns wrapped in rice vermicelli which was really unusual but delicious and the prawns were a really large size. Service was fine — on hand when the button was pressed and invisible the rest of the time. There was a slight delay when we went to pay as they charged us for 42 plates … um hello, I know we eat a lot but we definitely didn’t eat that many. It was quickly sorted thankfully! There are other Japanese places in Glasgow which I prefer, but that’s not to say Yo Sushi isn’t great for delicious, quick and convenient food if you’re down that end of Buchanan Street.

My favourite after work snack! I work in Frasers, just above Yo-Sushi! and with a generous 20% discount it not to be grumbled with. The food is always getting prepared fresh in the open kitchen as you enter the restaurant and if its not on the conveyor belt they are more than happy to prepare it for you. Even without a discount two people can eat like Japanese kings for roughly £33(including to drinks!)

I enjoy coming here. The standard is high and the prices are too but you do expect that. The restaurant is modern and cosy, restrooms are spotless and well looked after staff are helpful and chatty. It’s nice to have a place to go to that’s different to the usual offering’s around Glasgow city centre.
