Ended up here after a meal for our work night out, its primarily a cocktail bar with many cocktails to its name including the prolific zombie of which you can have a maximum of 2 per person. It also has an impressive gantry of rums vodkas and the like if you want to do dash and booze variety too although its prices are not on the menu. Its a lively place which was very full by the time we got there, their selection of alcohol is very good if a little pricey at around £5 for a decent rum and coke. The reason its a 4 is the prices are a little steep as mentioned and also the fact this is a bar with nightclub levels of decibels in their music so it kills the chat a little. Teh staff are friendly and will engage in conversation when you can get above the din, are more than happy to chat about cocktail ingredients as well as the gantry which i find very important in bar staff and very nice as some cant be bothered. Would certainly go back here but not in a hurry, this isnt a reflection on the place but just my own personal taste hence the 4 star review.

Never been here for dins or drinks, but it’s a good place for a nice lunch every now and then. The tenner-ish, break-from-just-grabbing-a-sandwich, market is a pretty crowded one, but I’d suggest Bar Soba as one of my first«how about?“s if someone wanted to meet for lunch. You’ll get a decently sized and pleasantly spicy main plus a starter-esque side(eg three gyoza) for a tenner-ish, and unlike some other places I’ve never been left fretting that my food’s taking a while and I’ll have to bolt it and run back to work.(Ah, Stereo, I do love your lackadaisical vegetarian hipster ways and your enormous bowls of nachos, but I am a working man with a job to get back to!). Other people I know have been here for drinks and enjoyed themselves, which suggests it’s probably good? Is hearsay admissable in Unilocal reviews?

The first time we had tried to get a seat here on a Friday and the place was packed with a long waiting list. I’ve always been meaning to come back and with the OH getting a new job, we decided to celebrate here. I ordered the Apple and Ginger Mojito, which the server said came in a cheaper size with less alcohol. But I paid for the main one off the cocktail menu because I only wanted one drink. The OH ordered the Red Rice Ale at a strong 7% ABV. After some deliberations we ordered the dumpling platter at £13.50? This was nice and I liked the dipping sauces that were provided. Dipping sauces really do it for me. They give a little more oomph to dumplings. I ordered the Massaman Beef Curry. I enjoyed it although I felt it should have been spicier. The meat was tender and I liked the crumble of nuts throughout the dish. Finally I ended with the Deep fried banana with ice cream. Sweet and delicious, with a lot of nuts — in a good way. Overall we were pleased with the food and would definitely come back. They have an interesting cocktail list and I saw the poster advertising a cocktail masterclass. That looked very good considering it included a 2 course meal as well!

I’ve a bit of a love/hate relationship with Bar Soba, I love the idea of the Asian fusion food but it always falls just a little bit short of being amazing. That’s not to say it’s not good, every time I’ve been in I’ve enjoyed the food, it just all feels a little… homogeneous? We had to ask for the pre-theatre menu, although the contents are similar to their full menu(what would happen if I ordered the same items from the full menu? guessing I’d be charged full price… see what I mean, it’s the little things that stop me loving this place more). I had some steamed crystal prawn dumplings to start and they were tasty enough if a little overdone. My main course of chicken satay burger was tasty even though the sauce was a bit on the bland side, and the chilli fries were ok but again just didn’t have the amount of flavour I expect. Add in the crammed in tables, and the slightly too loud music and, once again, I left feeling a little bit underwhelmed. Maybe it’s me?

This is a bit of a mixed bag review. I’ve eaten in Bar Soba on quite a few occasions, both in the city centre and the west end branch and never had a problem with either food or service. And while the food(sharing platter, nasi goreng, pad Thai and chicken with chilli and almonds) were all delicious we did have a few issues that kind of soured our experience a little. We booked a table for three for 8pm on a Saturday evening, when we arrived we were shown to a very small table set for two people. We questioned this as there were clearly three of us and our waitress told us she would find a chair to push into the end, and that people were normally happy with this arrangement. This I should point out was a very very small table and the three of us would have struggled to fit our food plus a drink on the table let alone have space to move our elbows. After a bit of cajoling and pleading our waitress managed to find us space at a bar table, which thankfully did have plenty of space for the amount of food that we ordered. As I say the food was delicious, and our table issues were eventually sorted, but it just managed to take the shine off of what was an otherwise great experience.

Went for lunch with my boss to cure a hangover … Cocktails helped for sure Been in a few times for drinks but this was the first time I got food. Was soooo good, little bit too spivey for me personally but I’m a big baby when it comes to spice haha. Told my partner about it already and dragging her butt there with me again as soon as we get a day off together :)

Been in here for cocktails but never for food and man have I been missing out. Fresh pork dumplings and a ridiculously tasty red curry… one of most authentic I’ve had in Glasgow! If you like Asian for you will love it here!

Asian fusion with an urban feel. Funky staff, but not protencuous, friendly & attentive. I love the food here! Not the best Asian food around, but pretty decent without breaking the bank. There are often lunch deals on too & great sharing platters. They also have tasty cocktails like Apple mojitos & even a mojito ice cream. Quite a dark venue, even during the day, so great for a date if you are having a bad hair or make up day! ;) also it’s a nightmare for reception unless seated right at the door so no chance of a ‘something bad happened I need to go’ phone call! Downstairs is great for groups & has a separate bar!

Based solely on my post Unilocal visits I couldn’t give any less than 5 stars. Myself and 2 other members of Club 30s decided to book a wee 5pm deal pre-karaōke, our offer including 2 courses from the pre-theatre menu and a glass of wine, coming in at £13.95. Two of us opted to share a starter and dessert, giving us the best of both worlds. To begin we had the beef ribs and the flavorful meat just fell off the bone. For main I had the Chicken Sate Roti, served wIth skinny fries. The taste was beautiful and fresh, and the fries just perfect. The one thing that almost put me off was that it was served as a wrap and chips, which took away from the feel of an Asian meal, even if it is labeled«Fusion food». Dessert was Roti again, this time stuffed with banana, caramel and coconut, and WOW! It was a bit tricky to cut, leading to some crossed spoons(that might have been the greed rearing it’s head), but was a lovely end to a satisfying meal. Of course, we needed more Dutch courage than just one glass of wine before we embarrassed ourselves at karaōke, so we had to sample one of their sharer cocktails, and at £19 the Muay Thai Punch, served in a giant glass cranium, and chock full of chili was the perfect choice to get us slightly skull f#$*ed. Definitely, definitely do this!

Dinner and a catch up tonight to get away from the crazy black Friday madness. I had vegetable tempura to start, which was alright. But for my main I had pork belly curry which was lovely. I’m not good with to much heat so the heat level was just right. Staff where lovely really enjoyed.

Soba has a really interesting asian-fusion type menu and a really great location with a patio. I think the food quality and price are a great match, especially with a student card(wherein you get 2 for 1 entrees). Its become a somewhat regular spot for me and I definitely recommend trying it, the variety of food has something tasty for everyone — plus a cheap drink of the day!

I went here recently for the first time on date night. It’s kind of like a cross between a stylish nightclub and a restaurant — the music was rotating between really loud and a more decent background volume. The food though(fairly inexpensive) was awesome — chicken katsu curry to die for! And, unlike quite a few places i can think of, you’re given the choice of fork or chopsticks!

Have eaten lunch here too many times to count and am always happy with the food, service and cocktails :) The £9.95 for 2 course lunch is great deal for the amount of food you get, although there are a good few starters and mains where a £1 or £2 supplement applies, including my favourite main the Nasi Goreng. This time I tried the dumplings for the first time and was seriously impressed(see pic!) they were full of flavour and a perfect consistency. Yum :) The Basil Chilli Chicken was my choice for main, served with tasty jasmine rice and bursting with vegetables, I really enjoyed my supplement free lunch!

There aren’t many(if any) places you can get a mojito for two quid these days and Soba’s apple and ginger one is delicious and packed with plenty of fresh mint and lime. You would pay at least a fiver for the same thing elsewhere, so it’s well worth visiting Soba from Sunday to Thursday to enjoy gin, mojitos or Jack Daniel’s for £2 each. Ordinarily I’ve had an excellent experience of this place, but tonight we were served dirty glasses and cold food, while being made to feel like second class citizens as the waitress rolled her eyes because we had some Tesco vouchers to put towards our food bill. We were asked no less than four times if we had vouchers, even though I confirmed it at the time of booking and I felt we weren’t served as promptly or pleasantly as other customers because of it.

I have been here a few times now and was originally a fan, but after last week I think I will give it a miss from now on. My boyfriend had reserved a table for my birthday and we couldn’t wait to have dinner there! Unfortunately we were around 15mins late due to our transport being late, but we phoned to try get a later table with no avail, so we let them know we’d be a little late and could they still keep our table it was no problem and when we arrived the place was quiet so we had the pick of tables. Food came quick and was very nice as per and the waitress couldn’t have been any nicer… That was up until 5mins before they needed the table back(which btw by this point the place was still pretty quiet) she insisted we had 5 minutes to eat, drink up and pay(we had just got two full cocktails made and were still eating our sides) What angered me was her choice of words instead of «you can take your drinks to the bar upstairs and finish them off». The tables next to us were empty also and not reserved so why did we get treated like that? We bought off of the full price menu with cocktails and it came to around £60 so not a cheap meal by any standards and after her awful attitude we drank our drinks and left to go elsewhere and I will no longer be recommending this place.

The question is how have I missed this place until now?! I went for a quick bite to eat at lunch time yesterday and was very impressed. The staff were super friendly and made sure lunch was served very fast as we had limited time to eat our meal. To drink I had a Samuel Adams which was nice and they seemed to have a few more beer options so all good on that front. I noticed they also seem to run lots of cool drink promos throughout the week with some nice sounding cocktails available at decent prices. On to the real treat now. I had the Bangkok Burger in a roti. So a burger but more in a a sausage shape than the normal burger circle and then wrapped in a chapatti type bread! It was brilliant. You could clearly taste the lemon grass, chilli and coriander and it worked so well. On the side I got spicy thin fries and spicy coleslaw, both were also lovely. I really enjoyed my lunch yesterday, there is a multitude of other dishes on the menu that I would like to try and it is all very reasonably priced. If you have not been here yet, I would definitely suggest you give it a try.

I was only here for cocktails one sunny afternoon. Bar Soba is great. They have a huge range of cocktails which up are reasonably priced and beautifully served. The clientele are mainly students and it is very casual. We walked into the very cool looking restaurant — graffiti animé on the corrugated metallic walls, wooden bench tables and fresh flowers on the bar. It was very bright and, well, cool. We took a seat and had a good look over the menu. There is a huge variety to choose from, and there are also great lunch deals to let you explore the menu without it costing a bomb! I’ve tried their food and really enjoyed it, so I’d say its a great place for a casual snack and a drink with friends!

My wee sister was in town for a few weeks in early December, and she wanted to meet up with me and my new boyfriend in order to interrogate him — you know, the usual family spot check! I decided that drinks were most definitely required for the occasion. Nay, not just drinks, cocktails. Cocktails always make these things go well. ^^ We meandered up Buchannan Street trying to decide where to go, when we passed Mitchell Lane and I made the suggestion to pop into Bar Soba. It had been some time since I’d frequented the establishment, and as my sister also loves a good cocktail that’s just where we ended up for the evening, poor Harry being dragged along having capitulated to our boozy whims. I’ve always enjoyed the quirky feel to Bar Soba with its dark and cosy corners, but strangely it never fell into my list of favourite bars. For people who enjoy a cocktail and a comfy place to hunker down for a long session, this would probably be the place to go. The cocktail selection is luckily just as good and tasty as I remember! It did take a while sometimes for our cocktails to appear, which would not be unusual in most settings, but at the time we went the bar was fairly empty. They were nicely presented, though, and the ladies behind the bar were lovely. All the times I’ve been to this bar, I have never sampled the food. I’m told it’s nice, but I really couldn’t say. I may try it next time. Pop in for a tipple. On ye go, m’dears.

Stopped here for lunch when we were mooching about town and it was delicious. I had a Roti, which was a hot flavoursome wrap style meal, with fries and the star on the plate was the coleslaw. I’m a sucker for coleslaw and this one was really special. My fiancé chose the basil chicken noodles which were bursting with flavour and filled with crunchy fresh veg. The sauce was rich and warm with five spice, fresh chillies and the basil made it sing! The tea smoked chicken was nice but they could have put a few more cubes in. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the music created a great atmosphere. It really only loses a star because of the price. We thought it was maybe a pound more than it should have been for what we got, but we’ll definitely return!
