The Ferry — formerly known as the Renfrew Ferry — is one of Glasgow’s most unique live music venues. Apart from the fact that it is, in fact, a boat, it’s absolutely bursting with charm. The stage is located downstairs, while the first floor acts as a mezzanine where you can look down upon the goings on. The stage is fairly small and creates an intimate space. I went here to see Cat Power perform, and while she was ultra-shy and unsure of herself at her previous show at Tranway, here she was comfortable and flirty and interacted with the crowd. The floor space isn’t huge, but is accommodating and you should be able to get a great view. Upstairs is fantastic, especially when it’s quiet, as you can pick your angle, grab a chair, and enjoy. The bars on board tend to be a bit busy but you shouldn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes for a drink. It’s one of the few venues that still serves 35ml measures– bonus! Overall, understated and intimate, especially if it’s acoustic or a small band. No gimmicks, just good fun.

A venue on a BOAT? Without any persuasion at all, I joined my friends to see Focus play here some time ago now, and was quite excited by the idea of feeling the floor move under my feet as Focus moved my miiind… woooah… So… I was a little disappointed when I found out that the boat stayed stationary throughout the duration of the gig, and to be honest, when I found out that novelty was never to be realised, I didn’t find much else in the venue to redeem itself. It was large, and the stage had a good location in the middle of the floor, allowing a wide view for the audience. The floor above looked over the stage too, so as far as audience views went, the venue was spot on. Drinks were expensive though, and the ferry itself miles away from anywhere, so moving on to another watering hole after the gig proved somewhat difficult. Atmosphere was a bit lacking in the ferry — very little character to it, but it was very functional as a venue. So heed the warning and don’t get excited about the novelty of the place — you’ll only be disappointed.

I love the Renfrew Ferry, one of the most unique night spots in Glasgow! The super popular and long running, Vegas nights, I believe have moved on to pastures new — for good, hosting very large scale events, most recently at the Old Fruitmarket(and a ruddy splendid evening it was). I will watch with interest at the new nights that crop up here to take its place!!!

well worth checking out for the irregular vegas nights they throw — get dolled up, gamble monopoly money, and dance to old-time swing musicgood times all round! as other reviewers have mentioned, the stairs are somewhat treacherous, especially when tipsy — and my female friends in heels have complained about them on numerous occasions. get in there, throw back a handful of tequilas, and make a fool out yourself(falling down the stairs naturally)!

Great venue that has had a complete re-fit in recent times so don’t let the exterior put you off as it is now lovely inside! An old ferry that is now safely moored on the Clyde in Glasgow, you do still however have to walk the gangplank to get on it! Not great in heels and can be a bit precarious but funny! Hosts lots of live music and the occasional club night and is a good place for a night out, dinner, drinks and dancing.

Spent my 18th birthday here, seeing the Fall. Very nice venue situated on the water with a walkway. The wooden, rustic interior has a warm feeling, and the dual bars are well stocked and staff are excellent(attractive too). Stairs to the venue floor could be widened as drunkenness makes them very difficult to navigate, you also have to go downstairs a lot if you want to go to the toilets, which can be a pain if you decide to stay up on the balcony area. Otherwise, great venue.

Great little place, I’ve not experienced the gigs in the place yet but have dropped in quite a lot of lunches and a quick pint in the afternoon. The food is fantastic and you get a nice size for the price, the drinks arn’t too bad and they give you special offers on nights. Well worth a look!

Great little venue with a varied entertainments list including live music performances, ceilidhs and party nights. It is very cosy and atmospheric and is particularly nicely decorated during the Christmas season. The only downfall is that the bar is overpriced and doesn’t offer a great selection. As this is a converted ferry, as the name suggests, it sometimes feels like you are on an assault course. There are very steep stairs, lots of things to trip over(and people always do) and getting in and out of the toilets is a bit of a struggle even for the slimmest of people! However, all this adds to the fun and watching people fall over is always entertaining.
