My husband and I celebrated his 27th birthday here and it could not have been more perfect! I made a reservation via Opentable and put it was his birthday and a request for a romantic table in the notes. Upon arrival they manager was extremely welcoming and immediately took us to our table. It was fairly secluded and no one was seated next to us until we were ready to leave. The meal… Starters: Goats Cheese Pannacotta Pan Seared Scottish King Scallops Main: Chateaubriand(This is a meal for two.) Hand cut chips Mashed Potatoes Garlic Mixed Herb Butter Side Salad The server was extremely attentive and brought our steak to the table for our approval because it was cooked. Talk about that special touch! It was quite a large meal but we ate every single bite. I’m convinced I could eat their garlic butter with a spoon on its own. We were too full to order dessert but saw other guests eating it and it looked phenomenal! We’ve been dying to get back there again for dinner! I cannot say enough good things about the service, quality of food, and ambiance. If you’re looking for a fantastic meal for a special occasion or maybe just because, look no further!

Been a on many different occasions Business Couples Friends Each time I get something different … and I am not talking about the menu The quality of the food changes from delicious to poor As does the service… From moody uninterested and unapproachable team… To delightfully helpful can’t do enough kind of people If they could get a constant with their food and service then this place could be a must stop for all that visit Glasgow, for now… I would be embarrassed to take friends from out of town knowing that there is a 50⁄50 chance for it to be on the negative end of the spectrum

Love the Butchershop, got to be the best steaks in Glasgow. There is such a great vibe to the place; from the décor to the friendly staff. They also do amazing value for money offers, two steaks(quality meat), sides and a bottle of wine for £30.

I’ve eaten here many times now and it’s always been an excellent experience. The staff are great, the food is amazing and the atmosphere is good too. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who loves steak and cocktails. It’s also a good choice for a special occasion and definitely draws a crowd during Christmas and graduation season. Unlike some other restaurants their level of service stays high during these busy times which is really impressive. Although it’s a smart looking place and the prices are relatively high the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed which I really like. Already looking forward to my next visit to the Butchershop!

My mother in law likes steak, so on a rare visit down to Glasvegas we took her here. We all ordered steaks and the meat itself was all very well cooked. So why three stars? Well, when I pay £30 a plate I want my plate to be warm. By the time I had my first mouthful of mash it was already cool. That’s a big mistake in a supposed high end restaurant. That cost them a theoretical 1.5 stars and I rounded down for overly loud music. Music too loud? Really?! Yip I know! I’m getting old because the inability to hear my dining partners conversation was really irritating. For a place of this price I really need them to do better. PS I like my mother in law there was no need to turn up the crap jazz.

One of the nicest meals I’ve had in a while. Scallops were perfectly cooked for my starter. Amazing rib eye steak with garlic prawns and all the sides were tasty especially the onion rings. Lovely cocktails too and very nice staff! Definitely recommend here for dinner and drinks!

This is an amazing high class steakhouse! Every dish was perfectly prepared! The service was friendly! Remember that good food takes time! If you want fast food, expect low quality, and find a quickie joint. This is wonderful food, freshly prepared!

Wow! I mean, just wow! Despite the Glasgow weather doing a convincing impression of a summer’s day I’m sure there must have been a hurricane surrounding The Butchershop, because my mind was well and truly blown. My friend took me as a surprise, for the Two for Tuesday deal, which includes 2 rump steaks(or burgers, but if you’ve got the chance for steak who would want a burger?!) with chips and a bottle of wine for £30. Inside the restaurant is smaller than the outer façade would have you believe, but had an air of coziness, if a little bourgeois. The waiting staff were just lovely, and the right amount of attentive. But on the real meat of the review(bad pun, well intended)! I ordered my steak medium, with garlic butter, my friend took hers medium rare. We had the house red, which was fruity, yet dry, and there was always a jug of water on the table, and along with the mains we had a side of garlic mushrooms. When the meals arrived I didn’t know whether to pick up my cutlery, or fall to my knees in praise. The rump was a giant, hunk of meat, slightly charred on the outside, but perfectly rosy inside. The fries were, obviously, as we’re in the west end dahling, served in a basket, which was promptly emptied on to the plate. I honestly couldn’t fault a thing. Both juicy, tasty steaks were cooked to perfection, the fries crispy, and the garlic mushrooms a pleasant accompaniment. The only thing I would change is next time I’m having the steak sans butter. I don’t think this is somewhere I could afford to eat if it weren’t for that deal, as the a la carte prices are a bit on the hefty side(I’m sure the garlic mushrooms were about £6.50, as with most sides) as is the drinks, but it is definitely worth the Tuesday deal. I’d also book ahead to avoid disappointment, as it was pretty busy.

Been wanting to try here for a long time and finally made it along tonight for a birthday treat. It was everything I hoped it would be and more! Great service, AMAZING food and a lovely ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed everything. There was a minor problem with one of our desserts, and they took them both off the bill which was really above and beyond. Can’t wait to return here! Highly recommend it.

What a place to eat, such a great place to eat. I took my girlfriend to this place for her birthday and it was such a good choice. We opted to each have a starter, i chose the soft shell crab done with apple, celeriac, wholegrain mustard coriander and a lovely chilly slaw. It was so soft and fresh with a lot of taste to it and what it comes with compliments it perfectly. I also tried the iberican glazed pork cheeks which were gorgeous as well, so tender and not what i expected at all. I ordered the d rump with chunky chips(read wedges), and the pepper brandy jus with some garlic prawns on top. I got 3 chunky lovely whole prawns which were just melt in the mouth delicious! The steak was delicious as well which was brilliant and perfectly cooked which was impressive as it went from about half an inch thick to a good 2 – 3 inches at its thickest. The sauce was lovely and it came seperate so you could judge the amount you wanted which was great. We were going to go for dessert but it just wasnt possible we were so full! We also ordered two drinks whilst we were there and they took a little bit of time to arrive(not too long though) and instantly we were offered to have them taken off the bill which was a nice touch! One of my favorite restaurants to date!

It had been two years since my last proper visit to Butchershop and I’m pleased to report that not much has changed. They’re still doing burger vs steak Tuesday(one of the best deals in Glasgow!) — for £30 per couple you get a burger or steak each, as well as a bottle of house wine between two with the choices being white, red and rosé. I would recommend ordering a starter too, or some sides to properly fill yourself up. This time I tried the soft shell crab which was just lovely as a starter — a good size, perfectly cooked and I really liked the charred lime. I got steak for main, medium rare and again, I was really impressed. Their steaks are delicious and you can trust that they’ll be perfectly cooked. I’d definitely rate Butchershop up there with the best steak restaurants in Glasgow. There were a couple of little niggles on the night — firstly, we were seated at a table which had a lot of traffic going by(almost in the doorway between the bar & restaurant) and I was really conscious and all the staff bustling past. We were there for the 6.30 seating, and at about 8pm they reminded us they needed the table back for 8.30 which wasn’t a problem but meant we didn’t really have time for dessert. We got the bill instead and then headed elsewhere(Firebird) — perhaps we were too busy chatting away at the start of dinner though, so that might’ve been our fault! Overall, I’d highly recommend a visit to Butchershop on a Tuesday night as it’s a really great deal for a couple of carnivores!

This tasty treat of a restaurant has wonderful views of Kelvingrove Museum and Park and the U of Glasgow, and is perfectly situated near the nightlife area of Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Walking distance from several small to medium-sized hotels and B&Bs, it offers great food and ambiance to tourists and locals alike. My OpenTable reservation was useful, but not mandatory mid-week, but I’m glad I had it. I’ve heard this spot can be quite busy. Our server was a delight! She deftly came in and out of service without being obtrusive, knew her food, drink and specials and showed enthusiasm and hospitality. Although I’m fairly used to most UK accents, I did have some difficulty with her thick Glaswegian accent, which only added to my enjoyment! The ribeye steak ordered rare was cooked to perfection, rosy inside and charred to a crackly crunch on the outside! The mash and mushrooms both had a buttery, rich flavor and complimented the steak perfectly. My companion chose the wine so I can’t comment on the selection, but the Bordeaux he selected was delicious – velvety and smooth. No room for pudding!

At long last! I made it to the Butchershop! The problem with being friends with a bunch of vegetarians is that places like this never seem to make it onto the short list when we are picking a place to eat. So hooray for the day when I had a day off work, and a hungry carnivore to meet for lunch! And I have to say, it was worth the wait. We were booked in for 12.30 and as my dapper lunch date was running late, I had 20 mins to peruse the menus, take in my surroundings, and chat to the friendly waiter about my wine choice. The restaurant is lovely. It is just the right balance of informal and formal: laid back Russell-Crow-alike waiter in jeans and long butchers apron, comfy banquette seats and starchy linens. It was fairly quiet at lunchtime but it didn’t feel awkward at all, which is saying something. The a la carte menu is on the pricey side, but from what I’ve heard the quality more than justifies this. The lunch menu is good value at £13.95 for 2 courses but has fewer choices and only one steak option which, for a £3 supplement, perhaps takes it off your list of ‘cheap midweek lunch’ options, esp as there are only a couple of sub-30-quid wines on the list so even though I didn’t even have a steak, my share of lunch still came to £35. I opted for the mussels to start and they were delicious. It was a sizeable portion in a delicious classic wine, shallot and cream broth with crusty bread. I was stuffed afterwards! I could have skipped my main after that. I probably didn’t need to slurp the rest of the heavy cream sauce and all the bread but, hey, tasty goodness and a hungry gal = clean plate and stuffed belly. For main, I opted for the classic burger which came deliciously charred on the outside and medium cooked on the inside(not ‘well done’ like so many burger places now find themselves doing for health & safety reasons), in a lightly toasted brioche bun and a little zinc pail of skinny fries. The burger was very very good and I’d like to try it again when I don’t have a bellyful of mussels and cream because I left most of the bun and the fries because I was full! I was a bit disappointed in the fries because they seemed to be those pale, matchstick ones that come in sacks from frozen catering supply places, and which go cold really quickly. I would have preferred some proper golden, deeply seasoned, chunky chips to match the heavy meatiness of the meal– the kind that are fish-finger-sized and stay mouth-burningly hot on the inside for ages. I finished with a perfect espresso; rich and strong with a golden crema and a square of tablet on the side. All in all, a smashing meal and I will definitely return — most likely on a Tuesday when it is £30 for two steaks/fries and a bottle of wine. That’s spectacular value, given the quality of this place. The food is excellent and the service is faultless, and as it happens, I STILL haven’t had a steak from here so I’m going to have to return aren’t I?

Solid steak. Medium-rare rib-eye with essence of charcoal bbq on the exterior. Inside was a succulent blood tinged pink. Blue sirloin was true to its name and came off as a meaty butter filet. Both quality cuts were cooked just the way we requested, with delectable results. Fine ambiance. The service was friendly but not so efficient. We came on an off-night, the one without their tuesday deal since we wanted to avoid the hectic rush & clatter. The wine recommendation for the night was not so informed, but it was a-okay. If a sommelier is not present, staff should have a bit more than the bare minimum knowledge of wine. at a steak restaurant. Server disappeared somewhere for half our night, only to resurface with a gleamy smile when presenting us with the check. What makes the place is good steak. But staff could be trained better. If I’m here, its because I’m in a serious steak mood. Hear ye all steak lovers: THIS is your date night.

I’ve been here a few times and absolutely love it here. I always get the t bone steak with garlic butter, medium rare. Thinking about it is making me salivate! My husband from California is super picky with steaks and even he said that this place does THEE best steaks. Dishes are pricey but totally worth the money. They are always busy so reservations are highly recommended.

The best steak I have had that I can remember. This is the main thing that comes out of my first ever visit a few weeks back. For 26 quid you get a medium rare sirloin steak which melts in your mouth and tasted like an awesome 5 star meal. Butcher shop is a good restaurant set in a nice location with a lovely view. I would say due to pricing it is a special occasion destination, but you do get what you pay for when it comes to the steak and on the front you won’t be disappointed. For starter I had the soft shell crab, which was nice. The main stand out thing about it though was was the dressing and salad that went with it. Not usually my favourite thing but on this dish it was spicy and tasty. The beer menu seemed a bit limited to me, but I managed to pick out the decent decuhars IPA to drink for the evening. A few issues on the night that caused me to give this place 3 stars instead of 4 or 5. One of our party sat in the bar for 30 mins waiting to be seated whilst the rest of us sat in the restaurant. There had been a mix up between staff seemingly, which meant they thought nobody else from the party had arrived, when we had. A few other small complaints. One of the beers I received came out completely flat and I had to return it. It took ages for us to get the bill. Also just the pricing in general which I think is very high. It seems to be the policy that everything is expensive, just cause it is. They really should have more of a mix of options in my opinion. Complaints over. If you want a great steak. This is definitely the place to go. Just make sure you take plenty of money with you.

So we went on a mission to track down the best steak in the city. Where else would you start other than the hyped-up steak place that is the Butchershop. It is an old haunt for me, I’ve eaten there as the Brewery Tap, and as the Tap, but only gone for drinks in its present garb. It’s fairly formal in the restaurant part, but it has the warm hum of convivial conversation and the usual West End bonhomie. The service is friendly and smart, and our shared start of Gin & Herb Infused Scottish Salmon was delivered very quickly. Yea it wasn’t bad, very light though, with just enough favour to carry it off, so far I was still just thinking only about that juicilicious steak. We both went for the Scottish 28 Day Dry Aged Rump Steak off the pre-theatre — we had the Prince gig to make. The peppercorn sauce option was a little innocuous, but I put my knife into that lovely steak when it appeared and it was soft, soft, soft. It was also cooked to perfection, bang on medium rare. The steak is certainly right up there. Ooft! I soon stopped thinking about the perfect steak though when I started eating the chips, wow, they were shonky, in fact if I was not having to leave so soon I would have complained. They were soggy, limp and tasted old-greasy, bordering on inedible! Why let down everything else with such a poor side? A star off! Update: After a comment from my father after a meal in the new Butchershop venture Hutcheson’s I now believe it may be the enclosed container that the chips are served in that might be part of the problem. They are getting steamed as they are left in there. My advice: Pour them out as soon as you get the plate!

Just the other week, a group of friendly bloggers on Twitter arranged a catch up over dinner at The Butchershop Bar & Grill near Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. My other half is a vegetarian, so I cook vegetarian at home. The thought of an iron-rich piece of steak on a Tuesday night was too good to miss! Also, I have heard many good things about The Butchershop and was keen to try it out. The Butchershop is in a great location — just across the road from Kelvingrove Museum. I was really surprised at how busy the restaurant was for a Tuesday night, but then I realised it was so busy as every Tuesday is Burger vs Steak Frites Tuesday… 2 burgers or steak frites and a bottle of red wine for £30 This really is a great deal; from the a la carte menu, the steaks normally cost between £17.95 and £30.00. Myself and one of the others were both driving, so we asked if it was possible to take part in this deal without the red wine. Without the wine it was £20 for 2 steak frites or burgers — £10 each. Brilliant! We both opted for the steak frites and ordered some sides to share with our fellow diners. I also ordered a topping of Lanark Blue butter. The steak that arrived can only be described as a thing of beauty! I had asked for the Lanark Blue butter as a topping, however this came in a little side dish — now I do love butter(it’s an Irish thing), but I thought that both the garlic herb butter and the Lanark Blue butter on the side was a bit much. Nonetheless, I tucked in and cleaned the plate! I asked for my steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection… Beautifully brown on the outside, and pink and tender in the middle. The flavour was brilliantly beefy, with the Lanark Blue butter complementing it superbly. As for the sides… the onion rings were my favourite with crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, batter. We also enjoyed some garlic sautéed mushrooms, green beans & garlic, and a lovely rocket & parmesan salad. I can honestly say this was one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a while. With all the sides we shared, there was no room left for dessert(a rare occurrencel). It isn’t often I skip the opportunity for dessert when I am out and about, but my hunger was completely satisfied after this meal, and I was most definitely in my happy place. The Butchershop Bar & Grill…, I will be back!

The Butchershop had been recommend to me by so many people that it was with great excitement I made my way there a few weeks ago on a Friday evening to try it for the first time. Located at 1055 Sauchiehall Street it is a fairly unassuming restaurant from the outside, with a black exterior and block type white signage it reeks of cool contemporary New York chic which is just the vibe that owner James Rusk is trying to create. If you don’t like steaks this is absolutely not the place for you. Their menu consists of every cut of beef you can imagine, The Butchershop has a policy of using only Scottish grass fed cattle which is then hung on the bone and dry aged for at least 28 days and believe me it shows. For the non beef eaters there is a small section on the menu which they have called The Rest which includes 3 alternative dishes including a Pork chop dish, a salmon dish and a pasta dish — you have to be an out and out carnivore to really enjoy this spot. I have always wanted to try Crispy Fried Soft Shell Crab so when I saw it on the menu as a starter I immediately jumped at the chance to try it. It was delicious and so tasty, my only slight niggle was that it was quite small and I was starving… but when I was half way through my main course I was thanking my lucky stars it was so small because my main meal was so large. In true carnivore fashion I opted for the House Signature cut half Kilo hung & Dry aged for 35 days T-Bone steak accompanied with hand cut chips and Garlic Mixed Herb Butter and a side of onion rings. I know, isn’t your mouth watering just thinking about it? When it arrived I was not in anyway disappointed — the steak as well as being huge was succulent, tender and ridiculously juicy. The chips and onion rings were both delicious and extremely moreish. This is now officially in my top 5 restaurants in Glasgow — its amazeballs and a must try in the Glasgow food scene.
