Been in twice for hot drinks after shopping — nice to relax and watch the world walk by. Best hot chocolate I’ve ever had and really nice staff :)

Steak & Cherry, as was, had a reputation as somewhat of a Glasgow institution amongst it’s punters. You only needed to be on twitter the day that is was wrecked by fire to see the outpouring of despair to see that. Free admission: I never went to the old Steak & Cherry for whatever reason — mostly I was usually a Cathouse guy and it was a waaaaaay long walk when McDonalds was closer! — but I know folk who were in there on a regular basis and missed it badly. Well, now it’s back and I popped in last night for some food and to get out of the freezing cold Glasgow winter. First things first — it looks pretty damn good inside. It’s bright, airy, and the area at the back that looks like it could be used for functions and parties had a great NY skyline mural in progress along one wall. So, the big glass windows let you see out into the chaos that is Sauchiehall Street at night, yet the space inside is a nice oasis of quiet; it’s nice to have somewhere to chill out amongst the madness, and this certainly fits the bill. I was in at the back of 9, and things were just starting to get busy as I left, so it’s reputation as a top late night spot is certainly still in place. The staff are all nice and cheery and helpful without being too overbearing and in your face, which is always welcome. As for the food and drink? I had the Legendary Burger, that comes loaded with cheese, bacon, onion rings, salad and mushrooms. I had everything bar the mushrooms, because as we all know, mushrooms are the Food Of The Devil and are sent by Beelzebub himself in order to claim us as his own. Or, they’re just horrible and icky. Your mileage may vary, The burger itself was superb, the cheese on top melted just right, and sat on a bed of superbly crispy bacon(the best kind of bacon for burgers) and served with 2 onion rings under the bun. I took the onion rings out and ate them on their own, and I’m glad I did as they were really tasty and I’d probably order a side of them alone next time I’m in. Drink wise, they served my pint of Blue Moon as it’s supposed to be, with a slice of orange, but also have a range of tasty looking milkshakes that I’ll be tempted with next time I visit — an Oreo Milkshake especially looks like it has my name all over it So yeah, I’d highly recommend popping in here on a night out to break up the boozing, or after a gig, or before you head off to your nightclub of choice. The burger was good enough that I’d have no qualms about popping in earlier for a lunch or dinner.

Disappointed! Used to love the old steak and cherry and this is just not the same. I know they are catering for those who may have enjoyed a drink or erm ten in the wee hours of the morning but for the prices they charge with the competition around them — I think they need to be brilliant and they are not. We rolled in at 3ish and grabbed a table –it wasn’t that busy. The guy serving us seemed nice — attentive and rather prompt. The menu is large and varied and there were a few things I liked the sound of including breakfasts, pizzas and pasta. My friend chose the club sandwich and I thought ooh that sounds nice. I asked if it was on white bread — told yes it is — are you sure? — yes yes — so I ordered it. Argh what turns up — a wholemeal bread club sandwich!!! Now I could have said this to them but after waiting fifteen minutes for it and my friend perfectly happy with hers I ended up just taking it. I found it dry and a bit tasteless and although the chips on the side were fresh and pretty good — not worth £10! Huge disappointment and I had to use several of the hated Mayo sachets to try and make it a bit more yum. Maybe other things are better and I just made the wrong menu choice! Wish I had went to the trusty noodle bar!

Good service and good food. I ate off the lunch menu and loved my tomato pepper soup– the bread is all warm and soft and crispy and delicious. 2 lunch courses for 7.95 is such a good deal too

One of the few places that you can go to for just a tea and cake at midnight during the week. They have done the place real nice and you cannot tell if the place is busy as most of the seating area is hidden. On my way home one night and we ended up here I really wanted a hot chocolate, and a snack to accompany it. They have a display of delicious cakes but sadly they are defrost and serve, but sold at home made prices. A nice place but be prepared for the bill, for two hot chocolate and two chocolate cake was a hefty £17.50. I don’t mind paying high prices for home made produce or home baking, but feel these guys failed to impress or take the business to another level.

Welcome back Steak & Cherry! Not that I ever ventured into it first time round, but I’ve heard many a story of people’s antics in there and what it was like in general.(Legendary status, but not the best.) This definitely seems to be a serious upgrade! Wandered in with a couple of my pals last night after some dancing at ABC, obviously we were all totally and completely sober. Absolutely. Yep. I’d already checked out the menu online beforehand because I was pretty curious, which is when I spotted the pancakes! Pancakes with ice cream and maple syrup sounded like one of the best things you could ever wish for after some boozy times, so that cemented my need to go. We left just before closing time at ABC and Sauchiehall St was already mobbed by then, so I was worried we might not get a table. Still determined to get my pancakes though, we stoated up to SnC and oh, what a wonderful thing it was. After the chaos of the aforementioned Sauchiehall St, it was like entering a calm oasis. The inside is so nice and staff were waiting to seat us at a table, which they were very pleasant and lovely about! Compare that to going to Noodle Bar or wherever else at that time, we felt like VIPs! I’d expected it to be a bit of a riot inside as well, but everyone was relatively civilised! A booth of people in front of us got a bit loud, but nothing too bad. Perusing the menu, it became clear that this wasn’t the same menu from the website, but there seemed to be way more things on it! The pancakes were still there so that was me happy, but next time I think the cheesy beanos are a must! There are various toast/toastie options, sides like garlic bread, mozzarella sticks and curly fries; burgers and the like, and a whole bunch of other stuff too! There are also salads, which greatly amused me at the time.(I tried to get a photo of the menu but that didn’t work out. Probably because I was so sober.) We didn’t have to wait too long for food and the staff even came over to assure us it would be with us soon. The pancakes themselves could’ve perhaps been a bit warmer, but by that point I wasn’t really caring, and they were very tasty also! One of my pals also got pancakes and the other got mozzarella sticks and Cajun curly fries, never got to try the mozzarella sticks cause she scoffed them, but the curly fries were pretty nice! Not too spicy either, so that’s a definite win for me. We were chatting to one of the members of staff as we were leaving — mostly about his 4 week old baby, awwww — they all seem really friendly and it makes a change from other places trying to get rid of you as soon as! I realise my expectations for Steak & Cherry weren’t massively high to begin with, but I’ll definitely be back after my next night out!
