Looking for a quick drink to end an evening out in Finnieston, the Brass Monkey was a good choice — mainly due to the comfy sofa seat in the corner and a somewhat random mix of music which suited my friends eclectic taste in music. Its pretty small, and indeed dark inside, but the prices were reasonable with a few good cocktail offers, and the bar staff were friendly.

I’m quite a fan of this place, and newly so. The boyfriend and I were doing a wee Finneston pub crawl one night after a fab day out and about viewing flats, and stopped in here. What a cozy little spot, very unassuming from the outside. It was quite packed, but we managed to grab a seat after only standing for one drink. Loads of TVs makes for a great place to watch sport with the mates. The mixed drinks are a bit on the pricey side(we paid 6.50 for a small mojito that was mostly ice) but for what it’s worth, it was tasty and we were enjoying ourselves. Seems as though they might sell food, although it’s not readily advertised. i only noticed a board with the word ‘Smoak’ on it, which makes me think they work with Smoak to serve tasty BBQ treats. If that’s the case, count me in! I’m sure we’ll be back!

For Glasgow this bar is pretty small and would not take many people to fill. They have an ok selection of drinks but a little on the pricy side. Good entertainment on at the weekends.

I absolutely love this place! Finnieston is fast becoming a great part of town and this is just another fantastic addition to that. The décor in here is instantly appealing, with bare stone walls and floor to ceiling windows and doors, and despite it not being a big bar, feels homely and welcoming. The staff are friendly, the regulars are quite relaxed which relaxes the atmosphere, and the selection of alcohol, from gins to vodkas to their list of draught beer(budvar half and half? Odd!) is massively extensive. This place will definitely be having some return visits from me at some point in the future!

This place is so close to being a really great pub but there are a few things that tick me off about it; 1. The ultra wack music. I had to listen to an assortment of bad 90s music and lame dance music for around 1.5 hours recently. Now, what made it worse was that the odd music mix only included around 7 songs which then just repeated itself over and over. It meant I had to listen to Des’ree 3 time in one evening. No one should have to be subjected to that, no one. Now this generally would annoy me that much, but if you venture in on a weekend you will more than likely be blasted with Ned music, cranked up to 11 on the amp. I find this all very odd, considering what the Brass Monkey is trying to achieve. 2. Puggies… just why? No need. 3. Drunk /loud punters. Everytime I go in there are drunk and loud punters. I blame items 1 and 2 above for attracting said people. Apart from that the draught selection is ace, the staff are genuinely fantastic and the nibble platters scrumptious.

What is with those gambling machines? I just don’t get it, it’s like a wearing a neon shell suit to a country club. This one was something ridiculous like«Star Wars Ravages Battleship.» If you can block out the attention seeking box in the corner, this is a really nice pub. Good varied selection of beers on tap and an impressive cocktail menu. It’s a credit to Glasgow that not all pubs serve the same wares like here. I had the Budweiser Budvar half & half. It was really delicious and not as heavy as the dark colour would make you think. Lots of bright light coming in from the large windows. Interesting loos, very trendy. They do bites too and we got the meat and cheese plate which was great. The wasabi peas were an excellent compliment to the beer too. The bartender that dealt with us was extremely friendly. Lots of rose and white wine drinking women and Tennents drinking men when we were there Sunday afternoon.

What more can I add to the consistent positive reviews of this place on Unilocal? Well, it’s busy. Or should I say, it gets busy in the evenings. Always a good sign considering the number of other great pubs and bars down this end of Argyle Street. It’s got a nice cosy interior, super sleek with a really impressive bar, both aesthetically and with the contents. Good service with a fairly relaxed atmosphere for all its busyness. Gid quiz machine! Most importantly for me, it’s also one of the places you can sit outside and have a drink which I am all about.

Brass Monkey is my new favourite west end bar. It’s got an amazing selection of drinks. When I was in with my friend last weekend we had a cheese board and a bottle of red wine– which was fab! A relaxed place with a grown-up, classy feel to it. Will be back soon.

I just visited the Brass Monkey and can report it is very classy indeed. When I was younger I had a flat above this location, which was formerly the Two Ways… although this former pub’s Saturday night karaōke was entertaining to listen to, it wasn’t exactly the best lullaby to put you to sleep. The Two Ways’ closure was quietly mourned as it used to have local celebrity status for being featured in Scottish comedy Rab C Nesbitt, but it lacked that universal accessibility that would lure people in. As a younger student at the time, I was a wee bit too intimidated to ever go in. The new owners have opened the Brass Monkey up entirely. From its lunchtime menu options, live jazz music on various weekend nights(including Mother’s Day this Sunday), free Wifi and even the open, spacious exterior, you can see The Brass Monkey’s floodlit back bar illuminating Argyle Street from two blocks down. Aside from its cool, contemporary décor that mixes with a classic ranch look, inside there’s a lot to offer. They have a Sky Sports license and flashy flat screen televisions, so you can settle yourself down in a booth with a pint of Budvar(they have very nice beers on tap). For the lady, there are many Absolut flavour vodkas and classier spirit options. There’s a great selection on the backbar. And all things considered, it’s not even that expensive despite the upper crust quality of the whole place. This bar is a great addition to the up market establishments that have continued to crop up in this area over the past few years. The Brass Monkey in particular would be just as home in the Merchant City, or even as a classy bar in Brooklyn, as it would be here, but I’m glad it’s located where it is since it’s a two minute walk from town(and more importantly my work)! Great for a first date or even a natter with some friends or work colleagues since this bar manages to keep the volume down, even on nights such as tonight when you want to watch the football in peace! It might look cool, but its chilled out vibe make it a great place to go to even if you’re not feeling up for a big night out.

This end of town really is starting to become a damn good area to find a non pretentious, un cluttered, bam free bar and the Monkey(i’ve dropped the brass, it sounds cooler) is a fine addition to this trend. Trading for just over a month now and still showing that new white trainer look, the Monkey is a cool looking joint in a very trendy understated kind of way. With a couple of cool wee décor features, including plied slate bar and exposed stone walls, this is a smart looking bar and a cool option if you fancy a wee cheeky pint on your way home from the SECC or you just want to somewhere that’s not full of Wenders(west-enders.you know the ones). With a nice ‘all bases covered’ selection of beers on tap and a additional whack of bottled beverages, spirits, wines and cocktails available, The Monkey has a grown up but not to grown up feel to it and will probably attract a crowd of the mid twenties and upwards age bracket. Its nice, i like it. Additional plus points must be given for the mighty fine addition of free WIFI(all other bars take note!) and a pretty decent looking lunch time menu. Good Monkey, have a banana.

Once upon a time, there were only two reasons for finding yourself wandering the streets of Glasgow’s Finnieston area. One, you were going to the SECC for a gig. Two, you were lost. However that’s all changed in recent years thanks to the plethora of pubs, cafes and restaurants that have popped up in the area. The newest, the Brass Monkey, is a solid addition which sums up the attraction of the location. It’s aesthetically pleasing, with floor to ceiling windows ensuring it’s equally appealing on a hot, sunny day as it is when it actually is brass monkeys. However while such a stylish pub would attract stag and hen party crowds were it situated in the more mainstream areas of the city, the almost word-of-mouth nature of the Finnieston stretch(on account of there being no nearby subway station) ensures all pubs maintain as close to a local feel as you can get in the city. With a good range of beers on tap, an impressive wine list and football on TV, it ticks all the boxes although the competition in the area means this particular Monkey may have to learn a few new tricks if it’s going to attract a regular crowd and keep swinging for years to come.
