Popped in here for the first time on a wee pub crawl and was over the moon to find strawberry and lime kopparberg, my favourite drink at the moment which can only reliably be sourced in Wetherspoons. Great service from the lovely lady behind the bar, with a good selection of alcohol in general. They had Team America on the TV with some good tunes spinning. What more do you want? A star is knocked off for paying more for the same round after going to the ATM. Not sure what was going on there. I wasn’t drunk. Yet.

I popped in here for the first time in years today, and was awfully disappointed. A few years ago, Gazelle and the former 54 Below used to be the only pubs of this kind on Agryle St. With Gazelle now wedged between Neighbourhood(who knows how to promote itself), and with your pick of The Brass Monkey and Lebowski’s down the road, Gazelle failed to impress. When we stepped in to avoid being battered even more by the bad weather, Gazelle hardly warmed us up. The barman was amiable but looked bored out of his mind, wasting away since there were no other customers. This could be due to the fact we started boozing at 4 in the afternoon, but even at that you would expect a bit more business. Gazelle quietly advertise a £1.50 drinks deal outside that apparently covers everything… but it didn’t cover the drinks my friends ordered. That should maybe be specified more clearly on their offer board. We were also starving but apparently they weren’t serving food«today», which could mean they had no food left or they never do it. A part of me feels rather critical — it was a dreary weekday, and so I can understand why the pub was dead. I can also understand why they don’t want to serve food on certain days if it’s of economical benefit to the management. However, perhaps Gazelle would attract more customers if they had more available. Sure, it’s a nice enough rustic looking wee pub with a decent amount available on the bar. The problem is, Gazelle is now up against stiffer competition in the form of the brilliant gloss of the Brass Monkey, or the fantastic service you receive at Lebowski’s. For those reasons, Lebowski’s lured us in after a quick escape from here. Maybe we frequented this joint on an off day, or maybe Gazelle needs to step up its game. It’s one thing to be chilled out but in business terms you can’t really afford to when all other surrounding bars are, quite frankly, at a better standard. Where once it was top of its game, Gazelle’s now going to have to gallop to keep up with the neighbours.

It had been a while since I’d ventured in here(avoiding a previous ex and the like, but don’t tell the boy). However, upon wandering along Argyle Street to a friend’s on Wednesday afternoon, we decided to take a break and stop off in here for a cheeky starter pint. It was very much as I remembered it. All dimly lit with comfy booths, earthy colours and(my personal favourite) an under-lit bar. Oooh, it makes the drinks selection look all the prettier. There’s an extensive bar, staffed by a very friendly and chatty barman. Although, I found the prices a little bit on the steep side;, this is more and more a reoccurring theme in these recession heavy times. Though, we only stopped in for one we ended up doing a bit of the ‘one more, one more’ routine due to the laid back, quiet atmosphere. Therefore, it’s definitely worth popping in to have a few drinks if you’re in a chilled out mood. I’d also like to add that from my previous trips here, it was much the same later on at night. Of course there were a few more people but it still had a relaxed feel and the other drinks were of the polite variety. Quality.

I’ve only visited Gazelle once but it seemed to be worth visiting again. They had a half price drink promo when I was there(I think so at least, was quite drunk) and there was a number of booths available to use. The only gripe I had was that their DJ was playing pretty boring nonsense. Would try the food next time I’m in(and sober).

To be honest i’, a little surprised to be the first to review this joint. Located on Argyle St not a kick in the arse from the likes of Lebowski’s and the newly opened Brass Monkeys, this place has a pretty funky interior with a relatively chilled out vibe. Ok, so i’m reviewing on a week day at about 4pm so i cant quite give a true reflection on its evening persona however the day time one is defo to my liking. Popping in for a pint and a go on there free wifi i was surprised to find a pub that i like, that i ain’t been in before in this end of town. With a slick and pretty low tone interior, comfy wee booths to dive into and a small but decent selection of beers on tap, this joint has more of a continental bar feel to it rather than an «och aye the noo, choke ma caber with a haggis and call me jock» highland feel which prevails in the main in this area. I like it. Nice for an afternoon pint, i think they do food, or else the people beside me have brought there own cutlery and placed it on the table in the vain hope that the bar tender will take pity on them and fix up a meal for them, free wifi and a good old people watch. I shall as of now reserve judgement on its night time feel but methinks that a review update will not be long in coming.

The Gazelle was one of the first pub to move up market at this end of Argyle street. A nice little boozer, comfortable inside with a mixture of booths and couches, during the summer it even has a small outdoor area. The bar has a great selectionof spirits and the usual larger on tap, the food is good quality standard gastropub fare, pasta and burgers done well and reasonably good value.
