The 44 Bus

During term time, I am on this bus every single day. It takes an hour for me to get from my house to Uni using this service and an hour on the way home — sometimes more depending on what time of day it is. Usually my timetable is four days a week, meaning that I spend 8 hours every week on this bus. 32 hours a month. Oh my good gumdrops. What have I done to deserve this torture?
The usual punters on the 44 aren’t as bad as those on the 66 but I’ve still seen my fair share of oddballs and they usually pick a pew right next to me. Typical. A young yob even serenaded my friend and I with a dance version of Patrick Swayze’s «She’s Like The Wind».
The worst part of my journey to Uni is when the 44 takes a detour past the Scottish Power building just off Holmlea Road. The road is so narrow and the double decker bus always gets stuck when it meets the 44 coming from the opposite direction. It’s such a pointless detour and I don’t understand why the people who work for Scottish Power and people living in these narrow streets can’t just walk 3.5 minutes to the main road like everyone else. Heck, I don’t have a bus stop right outside my house.
My favourite part of my bus trip into Uni is when the bus passes «The Griffin» on Bath Street, this pub always has a chalk board outside it where they change the slogan to something silly daily. It recently said «Son of Subo» with an arrow pointing to the pub. These kind of things appeal to my sense of humour and make the bus trip a little less dull.
Generally the 44 is an alright bus route, especially if I get the top floor window seat with a copy of The Metro so I can read through the ridiculous letter page. The 44 starts its journey in Eaglesham, goes right through the Southside, through the City Centre and West End where it calls it a day at Knightswood. Even though the 44 is often the bane of my existence, it still gets me from my house right to Uni with minimal effort from my little legs, I would feel like a traitor giving it any less than 5 stars.
