I decided upon suggesting meeting the boyfriend for lunch that I wanted a burrito. I’ve heard things about Mezcal Mole which is Taco Mazama’s new tequila bar, so I decided to go check out this particular location. I regret not going to any other location. I had serious flashbacks to when Taco Mazama was new and their food dry and bland. This particular location was dark and dirty and the girls fixing the food looked just as dirty as though they had just rolled out of bed. The food was set up in the most bizarre way like it was a pop up shop buckets all around, no rhyme or reason to anything at all. I probably should have walked out, but I decided to go with the lunch deal: £4.50 for a small burrito, corn chips and a can of soda. The burrito I ordered was pretty bland, dry and not very good. I was pretty bummed as I’m a huge fan of their Byres Road and Central Station locations– both bright and airt. The chicken had hard dry bits mixed in, and the lettuce was legit yellow. I was bit impressed in the slightest. I don’t have high hopes of coming back to try their tequila bar as the food here and the overall feel of the place is just not right.

I really like Taco Mazama, I’ve only been 3 or 4 times but I’ve always had a good experience. I am delighted they have a very prominent sign displayed about options for vegetarians and vegans. I am delighted they have started ‘Vegan Tuesdays’(even if sounds like there’s a bit of faffing around online to get the deal). I am delighted they sell beer. On to today — I’d spotted on Twitter them advertising a £4.50 lunch deal(12pm-5pm) which included a small burrito, drink(not including beer), and either a small bag of tortilla chips or fruit. They have a list of different fillings you can have in your burrito, with some meat options and 2 veggie options… maybe 3, I think you can also have the veggie chilli in a burrito. My favourite is the chipotle tofu, and with the wetness from this and the guacamole and the refried beans I don’t really feel the need for salsa as well. I felt the small burrito was sufficient and with the rice inside it is quite filling. If not, there’s always the tortilla chips to fill any belly space left. There aren’t that many places set up for fast takeaway which offers clear vegan options, which also has lots of flavour, AND you can adapt the filling to how you please from their offering of ingredients and watch them make it up for you. They’ll replace cheese with guacamole for vegans. If you’re not veggie/vegan then it’s still a great deal. In the Renfield St branch it may look like there isn’t much room to sit but there’s a whole other seating area downstairs, where there are also toilets for customer use.

I stopped here on Saturday night for a late night feed with my other half. I’d had a massive lunch so wasn’t actually that hungry, but the S.O. was starving and suggested Taco Mazama as a nice alternative to a greasy takeaway! I’d been in the Taco Mazama inside Central Station before but was left a bit unimpressed by the standard of service I’d received, although the food was nice. I’m happy to say the Renfield St shop was different! I opted for a small quesadilla filled with chipotle shredded tofu, cheddar cheese(duh), caramelised onions and jalapenos which came to £4.50. S.O. got the fajita filled with beef and chorizo chilli and it was the more enormous thing I’ve ever seen! The server ripped the first tortilla because it was packed so full! We took away and ate once we were home and I loved it. S.O. said his fajita was too«beany» but he’s a notorious fusspot! I got the roast tomato and chipotle salsa to dip my quesadilla in and it was nice and spicy! I think next time though I’ll ask for a side order of sour cream because my mouth was on fire by the time I was finished! The staff were super nice in the store. I asked the server to talk me through using the Swipii machine because I hadn’t used my Swipii card before. Turns out she hadn’t either but was kind enough to stand and go through it with me. I really liked the vibe in the shop and liked that they have the allergens menu on the wall for you to look at. I hadn’t realised how many veggie options were on offer before, and I think I’ll definitely be back for more. There’s not many seats in the shop, but I’d like to sit in on my next visit also. I’d like to add I got a quesadilla once from Pinto(a place I actually really liked) and it was such a disappointment. I honestly was devastated by how terrible it was because I’d been looking forward to it all day, and I’ve not been back to Pinto since! I think Taco Mazama will be my go to place for fast mexifood now!

I only give this particular branch of TM3stars, as they seem to keep the peppers for the fajitas in a Bain marie, making them rather soggy and sweaty, whereas the other two branches, one just across the road still grills them fresh on ordering. Really not pleasant to have soggy peppers and onions guys…

I’ve been a big fan of Pinto and Mexican food in Glasgow for years, however I had never given Taco Mazama a whirl, for whatever reason. I ordered a regular pork burrito and my, it brings me back to the days I first discovered Mexican food. Really tasty, filling and fresh. I’d been disappointed at the portion sizes had at Pinto recently but there’s no criticising Taco Mazama. A proper feed! I was slightly disappointed there was no choice of beans or rice, but what they offer is tasty so no biggie. Now my number 1 burrito joint in Glasgow, I’ll have to try out their monster triple burrito, but will fast for a couple of days first… Only thing holding back from five stars is cost, as I can get a bigger and slightly nicer burrito in London for 50p less.

Popped in here a few weeks ago before going to the cinema with the other half, I was absolutely CRAVING Mexican food and didn’t mind trekking down here from where I’d parked near the cinema to get some. The aforementioned other half used to work near here and being a total grubber, got food from them quite a lot — so much so that the managers still say hi to him when he comes in! We decided to take advantage of the burrito and a beer for £8, which in my opinion really is such a great deal! It was exactly what I was after and I wasn’t disappointed. I went for the barbacoa beef, with sour cream and mild salsa because as I’ve probably mentioned at least three other times on here, I don’t do spicy. The beef was amazing! Seriously tasty stuff, it’s earned a place on my «Things I Occasionally Get Weird Cravings For» list(see also: cheesy beanos, Dairylea Dunkers, strawberry milkshake, Chasni… to name but a few!) The rest of the filling was pretty tasty as well, but I did feel that they could have spread everything out a bit more evenly, as there were parts of the burrito which were just rice and beans and parts which were just the barbacoa beef — no complaints there, mind! The burrito was massive and definitely filled me up, I never quite finished it even though I was determined to — sometimes even I have to admit I’m defeated. Again, for the price I thought it was excellent and the other items on the menu are pretty reasonable as well. I’ve had their nachos before and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I can say with relative certainty that I’ll be back. I quite fancy trying the one in Central as well, just to see what it’s like!

I love Mexican food. Sadly I wasn’t keen on the burrito I ordered here at all, I found it over priced, and the rice inside it was hard — perhaps left out to harden from the day before? I don’t know, I just know I won’t be going there again though.

This is the first time I’ve been here since it opened, I agree the food did get a bit more tlc back in the old days but the food is still really good and the meal deal is great value. For the Princely sum of £3.99 I got a small quesadilla(which wasn’t that small) a portion of tasty tortilla chips, salsa, sour cream and a can of juice! Cannae complain really, the service wasn’t bad but they could be on the ball a bit More. My food was really tasty and well cooked. I opted to take away but you can also sit in for the same price.

There was a time when I used to look forward to gently removing the tin foil to gaze at my taco mazama burrito, in anticipation of the joy it would bring, like peering at my first born in a blanket. Sadly, not the same TLC goes into producing these little Mexican bundles of joy anymore. I can imagine making 100+ every day could be pretty soul destroying for the staff, but the burritos are a pretty soggy affair nowadays. However, I don’t believe pinto are great either. The Glasgow burrito crown is still their for the taking. I am looking forward to assessing the next challenger.

I think the food at Taco Mazama is fantastic, it’s not often you find a takeaway that does such good quality and authentic food! We don’t live in Glasgow any longer but visit quite often and a visit to Taco Mazama is always top of the list! I think we’ve tried most of the menu since they opened and it’s all been pretty good. The staff are always friendly and helpful and altogether I’m a big fan. I did try the new place round the corner — Pinto something but it was really bland and tasteless in comparison.

Unfortunately the decline continues here with no consistency between staff in the product you receive and an ever dwindling ration of the filling you want vs. the filler. Then when you eat it it’s stone cold anyway. And why advertise the hot sauce as an option if you never have any? Formerly a huge fan I, sadly, now would not recommend Taco Mazama as you just have no idea of what you’ll get. I hope the West End branch is faring better.

I love Mexican food, I really do, and when I needed food on Saturday evening after work promptly, I went to Taco Mazama due to it’s proximity to Central Station and the taxi rank. One thing I’ll say about Taco Mazama is that it has a better variety of foods than Pinto, I do prefer Fajitas and Quesadillas to Burritos because I’m not a big fan of rice so I had a Fajita. The ordering system is a lot simpler aswell for people who don’t often go to Apart from the variety of foodstuffs they have, I don’t think Taco Mazama has a lot going for it at all. My fajita ended up going soggy because the chicken had this weird juice stuff coming out of it. There was just something lacking in it, I could barely taste the cheese or the salsa. Even the tortilla chips were far inferior to Pinto’s. As well as the food being inferior, the atmosphere in Taco Mazama is not a patch on Pinto. When I walk into Taco Mazama, I don’t feel like I’m going for food, the atmosphere is pretty souless. Pinto has a far better atmosphere with the music and the bright interior albeit with the fast food chain restaurant feel. Do yourself a favour and go to Pinto if you like decent Mexican food. TM is not the place it once was, which is a great pity.

As hard as I have tried to erase this experience from my mind, there are a few poignant memories I can’t get past. I hope, in reliving the pain in this review, I can caution future adventurers in the domain of Scottish Mexican… I visited Taco Mazama for a burrito. I remember a few good things about the burrito: the size was very reasonable, the price wasn’t too bad for Glasgow, and it was served wrapped in foil which is generally a good sign. However, once the foil was unwrapped, that was where the good ended. The beans were a bland sludge that were even more unflavorful than their greyish color. The jalapeños I paid extra for tasted of a very unfortunate jar life. Even my «all of the salsas!» request couldn’t spice up this blubbering attempt at a burrito. I admit I made one mistake – I requested all of the extras, which I failed to count sour cream as an included option. The sum of sour cream was unbelievably large, overwhelming all of the contents. The mixture of the bland bean mush, repulsively large amount of sour cream, and only texture coming from the lettuce was utterly repulsive. I couldn’t finish it.

Just moved here from California, so I think I can be a bit picky when it comes to Mexican food. But I believe it all comes down to the freshness of ingredients. Mexican food is so simple but can be so delicious if using simple and fresh ingredients. Now for my dinner from Taco Mazama… That was the WORST taco I have ever ever had. They are lucky they even got one star!!! The fiancé had something they called enchiladas but looked nothing like what I would called an enchilada that I’ve seen before. My tacos, I chose slow roasted pork, but what is it they use to flavor the meat??? Or is it meat? ICK! The pork also resembled dog food, it was mushy over flavored brown goop. Is this how all Mexican food is here in Scotland? I may have to stick to making my own.

Not having been to the US I’ve no clue what’s a good burrito or not… but I do know the ones here are big and tasty. My fav fillings would be the slow-cooked pork and the mixed vegetables. Excellent choice of salsa as well.

Okay, maybe I have irrationally high expectations, being from the US, but seriously, anyone looking for anything resembling Mexican food(or even a US burrito chain a la Chipotle/Qdoba) should probably tick this one off the list without even bothering. Two stars because it tasted okay and it didn’t make me sick. But barbecue pork with *sweet* sauce and cheese warmed in a toaster oven does not a decent taco make. Not to mention that the place has all the warmth of a student dive, really. I guess it’s an effort towards accessible Mexican food, but it’s not even really Glaswegian, just half-hearted.

I’m a girl who loves a takeaway, but I’m always dissapointed when I only have Indian or Chinese to choose from. I was pleased when Taco Mazama opened in Glasgow’s Renfield Street, being a massive fan of Mexican, and an even bigger fan of a munch in front of the telly. We took advantage of the restaurants on-line ordering service, which was brilliant! My friend lives in the Merchant City, so, armed with a menu and the laptop, we got set to order. I decided on the Beef and Chorizo chilli Burrito. It gave you the options to have it vegetarian or with chicken, with a few different variations, and with as much or as little chili as you want. It was only £4.99 which was pretty reasonable. My friends had fajitas and Black bean soup. For three of us, all having one course each, it came to around £14 with a quid delivery added on. Not bad atall. My meal arrived piping hot and on time, you can even choose what time you want it delivered! It was gorgeous, really tasty and filling, and a welcome change from Indian or Chinese. A definite must try!

Was touring Glasgow with my Scottish fiancé when I caught a bad cold. The best remedy I know is to eat food as spicy as possible, which isn’t easy to find here. Fortunately, we stumbled across Taco Mazama. While they default to mild, the owner was kind enough to layer on the jalapenos and salsa, making the burrito spicy even to me(my poor fiancé started sweating just from the smell!). The ingredients were fresh and of a clearly high quality, and my butternut squash burrito was filling and delicious. I’m from a mostly-Mexican town in California, and am intimately acquainted with both Mexican and Cal-Mex food. This place strives for authenticity — they even sell mango and guava juice! A clear winner.
