A great game shop with a good selection of tabletop games. Me and my partner play RPGs, CCGs and board games, and each of these interests is well catered for here. A great range of miniatures for D and D was a high point, as was the extensive board game selection.

I’m a geek. It’s true, and you know what. I’m old enough that it doesn’t matter any more. Time to embrace it. Geeks are awesome. Fact! Huge selection of role playing games, board games and trading card games. I haven’t played any role playing stuff for a long long time. But the board games being produced these days are great, if you can stand to read the rule books properly. My Favourite at the moment is The Arkham Horror, which involves a number of investigators hitting each other with the rule book. Fairly sure we’re playing it right. Knowledgeable staff will guide you in the right direction if you’re new to gaming, or haven’t played anything in a while, or are just looking for something completely different(Monty Python’s Flux card game for example). «But where is this shoppe of magic oh great wizard Wiggles?» Well, go to the Merchant City and look for the most yellow shop in existence, then make sure it isn’t A1 Comics. Right across from 13th Note and next to Once Upon a Tart.

I like these guys. They run a small shop and cater to their clientele very well, but I have one small comment. Please don’t take this the wrong way but the two words to describe a couple customers is Body Odour. I am do not always smell fantastic, that I admit. However, sometimes have caught a whiff from the patrons that lingers halfway between three day hamper and crusty homeless. Don’t live up to the stereotype guys.

Go play a board game. Who plays board games? You ask. Not enough people, I say. Seriously, go play a board game. Get some friends, some snacks, a nice bottle of wine, sit together around a table and play a board game. You probably haven’t done it in years, but you forget just how much fun it is. If you don’t have one, come here. The staff are smart and friendly and will help you find something. It is not all wizards, warlocks and space marines. My personal recommendation? War on Terror, the boardgame. Careful who you play with though, this is worse than Monopoly, it can be a real friend ender.

A funky wee shop that is hard to miss with the bright yellow exterior. This also helps distinguish the place as a close relative to the nearby A1 Comics. I have picked up some great rare presents in here for friends but there isn’t that much in here that appeals to me, at least compared to the aforementioned A1 Comics or the nearby Pippens Toys. It’s a reasonably priced store and a bit of a rarity. Well worth a look if you’re into the sort of geekiness that this places houses so proudly!

My brother, who is so interested in trading card games and comics, is such a big fan of this shop and its sister store A1 Comics that he’s on first name terms with the guys who work in both shops. In fact, since he is a member of one of the gaming clubs associated with the store he gets a discount and this is often increased by the friendly staff. Nice! It goes right over my head to be honest but I love it when people are so passionate about things like this and it seems the guys who work here really are. It stocks a wealth of gaming products and the largest selection of gaming cards in Scotland so it’s no wonder my bro likes it so much. I also believe there is an area int he store for workshops on the games. A little gem.

Back to my friend JT, who is into all this kind of stuff. Whenever I look at games like World of Warcraft and other role playing games I don’t know the names of, I always think they’d be fun to play once you get into them, but I just don’t have the time or the patience just now. JT has tried basic explanations on me several times, but it doesn’t really sink in. Anyway, Static games is pretty small inside, but the stock is also all small, and well organised and catalogued. It is the sister shop of A1 Comics nearby. It falls into a different category to Pippens Toys, but if JT likes it, then I’m happy to recommend it!
