Rising from the remnants of two lounges in the last few years, Stairway club goes back to the tried and tested formula of keeping bands and audiences happy and entertained. Walking into the venue the first thing you are faced with is their large elevated stage, giving bands more room to move around in and set down gear, combined with the addition of an open plan dancefloor and relocation of the obstructions and distractions previously offered to customers leads you to believe that Stairway has only two things in mind. Music and Dancing. The bar has shuffled around so no longer are beer seekers a hindrance when trying to enjoy your favourite band like in other unnamed Glasgow venues. The LED strip lighting would have you believe that you’d just timewarped back into an 80s movie, but it’s worth going even just for that experience alone. The beer was around £3 a pint for Tennents, with Jack and Coke coming in the same, so not quite student union prices but comparable with most, with a new venue massive promo discounts aren’t normally available right away and maybe this will change over time as the venue establishes itself and matures. With it’s links to Creation studios, central belt promoters, and a wealth of other music experience, could this in time become the one stop shop for bands around Central Scotland to secure rehearsal space, recording facilities and a live venue to air their material? I certainly look forward to finding out and will be continuing to keep a close eye on the venue.
