I ordered there once, will never make that mistake again! The delivery man was very rude and aggressive, I didn’t know customers were substitutes to GPS. I don’t mind helping someone who’s lost, but I do take it personally when a misunderstanding happens I get the question«do you speak English»? English may not be my first language but at least I ALWAYS manage to find my way on my own, and when I get lost I NEVER insult people who try to help me! The man who delivered the food couldn’t even get out of the car to hand me the food… I don’t even know if we can still qualify the service as delivery, since I HAD to find the way for this man who is definitely not very familiar with travelling around the city on his own and given the fact that I HAD to go pick up my food from his car… I thought delivery services were supposed to make our lives easier! I guess I was wrong…

This review is going to be very hard for me to write as I loved Hong Kong Express so much but now I don’t see myself ever going back or ordering anything from them ever again in the future. So I have eaten in here lots of times but I’ve mostly had it delivered. It’s very cheap and you get a lot of food for little money. They even do bubble tea so that’s really good but its just these things that make it hard for me to never go back but it’s never going to happen. My sister and I ordered the noodles, chips and sauce for £4:00. You get lots of chips, lots of noodles and a big tub of sauce. We started eating when my sister seen someting on her food that was on her fork. Thinking it might just be an onion she almost ate it but closer inspection it was a giant bug, one i’ve never seen before. It had long crooked legs and it was just horrible. We hadn’t put the food on plates we were eating straight from the boxes so we know it didn’t come from us. Another thing is, the bubble tea is good but the bubbles/tapioca that are in the tea aren’t so. I got refunded on the food, I had the option of getting new food sent out but I seriously will never have food from there again.

My friend and I were meandering along Sauchiehall Street one afternoon looking for somewhere to fill our faces when we spotted this place for the first time. The deals in the window looked good, and we could see that there were quite a few people inside, most of whom seemed to be of Far Eastern descent. I’m always heartened to peer into a Chinese restaurant and see actual Chinese people eating there. That’s when you know it must be tasty! I’ve visited this restaurant many times since. Inside, it doesn’t look like much(apart from a very nice mural), sort of like a pop up take-away loaded up on IKEA furniture. In spite of that, you can see nice cooked ducks hanging in a glass cabinet by the counter, the smells wafting from behind the counter set me to salivating, and the walls are plastered with pictures of traditional Chinese dishes which just aren’t available in your average Chinese take-away or restaurant in Glasgow. When you sit in, you usually get a cup of complimentary prawn crackers to go with your meal and a set of chopsticks. Worry not, forks are also provided! Fun Chinese desserts and even drinks are also available on the menu. I really do love that they supply pictures so that if you’re scared of trying something new there’s some visual candy to goad you on. :) If you haven’t popped in outside of a post-night out feeding frenzy, please do. You’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

I always used to pop in here for a singapore chow mien as 10 years ago it was the best, nowadays you are fighting to see any chicken, ham has been replaced with spam but they still do good spring rolls.

Unlike Mr Chris D who has little memory of his last venture to this establishment I fortunately do. I had been having a fab night jigging away to Feeder at the 02 Academy(will review later), we then stumbled up to Box on Sauchiehall Street and then the smell and craving for food became over powering. We hadn’t had our dinner as we went straight to the gig earlier. I have ate here a good few times after a good night out. For £6 sterling I got chicken and pineapple with yummy fried rice. My Ian thought we would have got a wee dish of prawn crackers, which on previous occasions they normally bring out while you’re waiting on your food but alas none was served. Ian knows I love them crackers so he kindly bought a bag, at a mighty £2 but you do get a lot. I do love to dip them in the sauce and listen to them crackle. Yum! It was delicious, fresh and hot. They did make a mistake with Ian’s order and gave his meal to someone else, who’d ordered the same as him. They did apologise and gave Ian a fresh chicken satay. As always it’s far too much for wee me but it certainly filled the emptyness of my missed dinner from earlier. Definitely a good choice available and always tasty and unlike some I kwow who just get chips, I tend to get a yum Chinese meal option.

I have little to no memory of stumbling into this joint at silly o’clock after spilling out of Slouch after one too many post Unilocal event drinks… Ooft. Anyway, my alcohol consumption/abuse/joy aside, a bunch of us slipped into here and consumed what felt like a boat full of grub. I remember nothing of the orders or indeed of the flavours, however I’m pretty sure I made lots of ‘mmmm’ noises during the frenzy, so that must be a good thing! I was going to say that this place offers a different type of offerings to the regular chippy type joints until I remembered that i ordered chips… oh dear. Alcohol is a bad thing.

Panasian Klump. Eigenartiges Gemenge an Speiseresten. Fettig fritiert(wie auch anders soll etwas fritiert werden können), arglos abstoßendes Interieur — besser interior -, gelangweiltes Personal aber echt panasian. Hong Kong? Keine Ahnung. Das Dessert war ugly. Zitronengraspudding. Die Konsistenz hielt was der Begriff versprach. Der Rest war Pest. Drinks — no comment. No Asia. No King Kong Hong. Fastfoodzit: «Don’t go»(Yazoo) if you don’t want to get«infectious grooves«(zu gut 10 berg).

Anyone who has such a brazen lack of respect that they’d order chips in here needs to be strung up and hung out to dry. In perhaps the unlikeliest location in all of Glasgow, Hong Kong Express manages to dish up authentic Chinese food of a quality that might actually even edge it over Asia Style down the road. The Roast Belly Pork and rice is an absolute joy to behold, and the menu is filled to bursting with Asian dishes far removed from the sanitised versions we’re subjected to almost everywhere else. It’s wasted on the pissheads who frequent the venue late at night, but for those in the know, it’s a place to be visited at any time of the day. As tasty a meal as you’ll find in Glasgow, and pretty inexpensive too. Utterly brilliant.

Forget doner kebabs and chips and cheese. True Glaswegians know there was only ever one late night takeaway option in Sauchiehall Street back in the day — the Canton«We do NOT sell chips» Express. Gone but not forgotten, the Canton has been a hard act to follow for the countless places that have tried. However, thankfully there is now an establishment which is at least beginning to take over its mantle. Hong Kong Express may have started slowly but is now one of the most popular eating out options in this stretch of the debauched street. Reasonable prices for an extensive range of Asian meals, the service is quick(if not particularly friendly) and there is also a fairly big seating area should you need a wee seat while devouring your chow mein. I’m sure Canton regulars will be appalled to hear this place actually does sell chips, but hey, even Asian fast food takeaways have to move with the times.

It’s possibly down to me being so mesmerised by a takeaway that did not primarily serve up chips and kebabs with the odd pizza thrown in, that it’s hitting the four stars for me. This being said, as Chris points out they do provide for the less adventurous among us by selling chips and satay sauce. However, they primarily serve up a fascinating array of traditional Asian cuisine, and at reasonable prices. Furthermore, they also have a selection of deals on at different times of the day/week. So it’s always worth reading over them before jumping in and rhyming off an order which could allow you to miss out on a good penny saving deal. Despite, having had a few really tasty meals and late night snacks out of here I would avoid it on a Friday and Saturday night. Nothing, against the place itself but I personally don’t like hanging around Sauchiehall Street after dark when the pubs start ushering folks out.

Confession: I have only ever been here after a night out when I am absolutely starving(or so the drink has made me think) and so can’t comment on what this place is like during the day or when you’re craving decent grub(although I’ve heard it’s good). They serve traditonal asian cuisine as well as a selection of traditional asian drinks. In my experience, then, this place is perfect for that post-pub hankering. The prices are displayed around the walls so you can carefully pick what you want. What I usually go for is a box of goodies to share with a friend — you pay a set price(around £6 I think) for a box and then pick from a range of dishes under the hot plate until the box is full. Then fight over who eats what.
