Your season opening 2015 with Berlin Bombshells was my first Roller Derby. I am not keen to go on any sporting events. Yet, this changed, thank to You, and it was a awesome experience for me. I am one of your fans now. :-)

Ok, so The Roller Girls are difficult to review, since they are technically not a business, and The Arc is only their training arena. And although they play sports, you’ll be hard pushed to pin them down since they’re on wheels and you’ll be eating their dust before you know it! The troupe brought the American sport of Roller derby to Scotland, and have grown remarkably since I first heard about them in 2007. They have expanded, moved from strength to strength and absolutely commend them for the work they put into maintaining their squad! The roller derby is a competitive sport for girls where you tactically rollerskate in a formation and attempt to defeat your opponents by bringing them off their wheels. It’s not for the faint of heart but it’s certainly not violent — it actually looks like super awesome fun! The girls work really hard at promoting themselves, and have had a lot of air time and news coverage over the years. With Drew Barrymore’s film Whip It hitting the screens this month, I can only see their profile gaining even more credibility. They compete all over the country and occasionally beyond and I can testify to how approachable and dedicated the women are. I love them! Their tight knit team is an outstanding example of what can be achieved through dedication(and a bit of passion); I very much admire them. They are running intakes towards the end of May and I’m considering going along. I’ve been watching them from the wings for years and now the time has come to give it a bash!(Pun intended).
