DesPalace Currie House. Alison St. Glasgow. Unilocal review. 20.06.2015 Wow. What a great experience. The food on display was/is beautiful and mouth watering. The smell divine. Was on a mission for curry for lunch today. It was a must. Discovered this place. So delicious!!! Thrilling. Really. Can’t wait to order again. Nan bread too. Great prices. Expertly cooked. I also really think their menu leaflet is superbly designed. I learned the company responsible if I remember correctly, «92printing.com» So easy to read and well designed. All in all, 5 stars.

If you like Indian food, Desi Curry Palace is definitely the place to go this side of town! How do I know? I just ate enough food to feed a small army and feel little better than a little fat mouse. It was tongue-tastic and taste bud tingling delicious(so much so I am promptly writing this review)! If you’re bored of the hipster places on the popular Pollockshaws/Kilmarnock Road and are looking for something gutsy and unpretentious, then Desi will deliver exactly that! Situated on the infamous and somewhat scary looking Allison Street, which doesn’t look much welcoming to outsiders, the staff of Desi are friendly and approachable. I got a 2-person meal deal of Lamb Kashmiri Korma(made with pineapple or mangoes), South Indian Garlic Chicken, rice, naan, vegetable pakora and the obligatory poppadoms and spiced onions for the decent price of £14.95. The two mains were definitely the standout dishes. The Kashmiri was slightly creamy, mildly spiced but sweet with pineapple — it hits all the notes of a kool korma whilst, the South Indian Garlic Chicken is unapologetic with its flavoursome spices and heat with a brave dose of minced garlic. The rice was colourful and fluffy and the naan soft, pillowy and chewy, perfect for picking up the thick sauces. Yum! There are many takeaways, fruit shops and dessert places on this street but Desi is a real gem of a find. Sure, the street looks dodgier than a ned with a blue bag, and the shop interior looks more shabby than chic with their collection of old fridges and home-made, hacked-together wooden benches, but before you judge, just remember that these people make awesome food with honest prices. Who cares if you break out into a nervous sweat as you traverse up the wheelie-bin-lined Allison Street with shady shadowy characters in alleyways and a plethora of other languages permeating the air space, away from the safety of all that is familiar? Desi is the oasis you are aiming for and when you find it, you will find everything else will pale in comparison as the food transports you away from your sterilised environment and into something altogether more exotic. And as an add-on, their pizzas are pretty tasty, too! So next time your stomach rumbles, head for Desi, sit back and enjoy the ride.
