I’ve been back a few times since my last review and it’s time for an update. First — they have stopped putting bread on my plate when I ask them not to! This means I can safely eat gluten free now. They also upgraded from their diced potatoes to proper chips, which are tasty. I always get the chicken plate, which comes with meat, rice, chips, salad and this amazing garlic sauce. It’s so much food that I end up bringing home enough food for a second meal. My partner is vegetarian and has lots of Lebanese dishes to choose from. It’s a little family place and the service is consistently good. Tonight was especially enjoyable. It’s tiny, with only four tables, but they have takeaway and are on Just Eat.

One word — Amazing! We had received a menu through our door and the food sounded delicious so put it down on our«Places to try» list. We popped in one lunch time and ordered a Chicken Shwarma Wrap and a Lamb Kofta Wrap, they are the best wraps we have ever tried. The wrap is Lebanese bread, and is packed full of fresh, homemade deliciousness! The service is outstanding, you are made to feel so welcome while you wait as all the food is made to order. It really has a lovely friendly family atmosphere. We will definitely be going back.

I love this place. If you close your eyes while eating you could actually back in the Middle East. We went in and had a chicken shawarma each, tabouleh, matabahl and thyme bread. Everything tasted exactly as I expected it to. My spelling of middle eastern dishes isn’t great so forgive me, but the matabahl was a triumph. Fresh tasting and full of coriander. The matabahl was great too, I could taste the smokiness of the roasted aubergine.

I’d been meaning to give Byblos a try(no pun intended) for a long time, when I stopped in for a bite prior to some rugby game(no more said about it.) It’s located on park road, jammed between of my favourite coffee places & one of my favourite Asian supermarkets. On walking in I was greeted by one of the two staff, they seemed pretty unperturbed by my presence & stood there looking at me until I explained that I was in need of food. I was already pretty certain of what I would order(falafel + various carbs), so I had to restrain myself from blurting out my order as soon as I had sat down, while the member of staff cleared up another table. I managed to have a good look around the place, it has a charm about it, not quite greasy spoon, but not a restaurant either. It feels like that kind of neighbourhood place that you could stop in at any time of day. The walls were decorated with a variety of photo’s & a TV showing a looping video of what I assumed was Lebanon. Complimenting the slight travel agency décor scheme was some local music, which wasn’t great, but did a job I guess. Anyway, you all want to know about the Falafel correct? It was good! Yup, that’s really all you need to know, it tasted good, it made the Falafel detectors in my brain go «hell yeah!» and the h-anger demon went back to sleep. The thing about Falafel is that when it’s good, you can just taste it. You could taste herbs & light spicing, the crumb on the outside was crispy, but not destined to crumble all over you. Alongside the Falafel was some pickled gherkin(out’ve a jar, but hey it’s a pickle), salad & houmous sauce. I felt a little dumb drinking an Irn Bru with this delicious Middle Eastern treat, but hey they didn’t have any crab juice(Simpsons reference!) For the hoagie & drink I paid £8, which while not cheap, isn’t too bad, given the quality of the Falafel. I really want to go back & try a few of the other dishes, because it’s always fun to order Babaganoush! As a final illustration of how much I enjoyed my dining experience, in the time it’s taken to write this review, my mouth has started watering.

We have been wanting to try this Lebanese café for a while now and the opportunity finally arose last night. The café is small, seating around 16 diners, and the décor is no frills, if not a little dated in a charming way, with the middle eastern atmosphere coming courtesy of walls bedecked with photos of Lebanese landmarks and Lebanese MTV providing the soundtrack. The venue is BYOB and better still, there is a Unilocal 10% discount check-in offer, which was an exciting wee extra to discover. Byblos does a thriving takeaway trade which is great to see. We opted to start with a couple of dishes from the cold mezze starters list — hummus and falafel. The hummus was a generous portion, deliciously garlicky and garnished with olive oil and paprika. The freshly made falafel came with a side salad and pot of tahini paste for dipping. The falafel was delicately spiced and very tasty. We were also provided with a freshly made flat bread for dipping in the hummus. Yum! For mains, we both opted for the mixed grill, which combined both one of the lamb and chicken mains. This portion was huge, coming with loads of juicy barbecued meat, lightly marinated with spices. The rest of the plate contained chopped fried potatoes, rice, salad, pickles and tahini and garlic sauce dipping pots. Again complementary flat bread arrived for mopping up or building wraps. We had gone for a three course meal deal and dessert was traditional homemade baklavas of three different kinds. We were so stuffed that we asked for these to be wrapped up «to go.» This was no problem. The owner(I didn’t catch her name) was warm and welcoming throughout and we stayed to chat to her for a bit at the end. We had a really lovely relaxed evening over these tasty authentic dishes and can’t wait to go back or order takeaway again soon from Glasgow’s only authentic Lebanese eatery.

Fantastic food! Flavours are imported from Lebanon and it is the best Lebanese food I have had in such a long time! Must try the shawarma and Kebbeh Lamb!

Byblos Café, named after the ancient city in Lebanon, is a brand new café in the wonderfully colourful and multi-ethnic Woodlands area of Glasgow. It seems like this part of town is really seeing a boom in Middle Eastern and Persian foods, which I am a big fan of. I was only in Byblos for a few minutes as I picked up a delicious, traditional Lebanese style Chicken Chawarma wrap to go. The wrap was pretty darn good it has to be said, light with wonderfully spiced chicken, salad, potatoes, pickles and garlic sauce. As I waited I had a wee nosey at the food in the fridge and everything seemed delicious and fresh. The place itself looks really good, a big improvement on the former Deli Aziz, which seemed a bit busy and cluttered. Really looking forward to sitting in next time and getting a couple of things from the traditional looking menu.
