Bo’Vine is the place to go in Byres Road for a steak. Considering the cheap price of the steaks, the quality is outstanding. All week, early evening, there is a special offer market menu which is amazing value for money. 2 courses, including a sirloin steak at no extra charge for £14.95. You’ll struggle to find as good value as far as steaks are concerned! The food itself is very good quality, starters are tasty, particular mention to the black pudding and poached egg. I can’t comment on all the mains as I’ve only ever had the steak. Though the steak is outstanding. Always cooked to perfection and great quality. Served with a peppercorn sauce which has quite a lot of heat to it. The triple cooked chips are brilliant too, the extra cooking must add even more flavour. The restaurant has a lot of space, though is on the dark side, can be quite hard to see in some parts. The service is always attentive and polite without being too intrusive.

So you’re here. You’re likely staying at the Hilton attached to it. You’re likely there for breakfast. Here’s what you should know if this is you as that was me. 1) You get a real pot of coffee in a little French press. 2) The Haggis and Eggs are great and great together. 3) They have veg-sausages too if you wanna go that route too. 4) Fine pastries that are light and flaky. 5) It’s not as stupid expensive as a hotel breakfast might normally run… but it ain’t cheap either. But, arriving here at 7:30 am from the airport leaves me with the oh so Unilocal«Yay! I’m a fan.»

Food was just ok. My fillet was cooked perfectly, but was not impressed with any of the sides that our table ordered.

It’s pretty much a given these days that if you want to eat steak at a restaurant, it’s probably going to cost you. Not at Bo’Vine it’s not! I know what you’re thinking — if it’s cheap, surely it’s not very good quality? Wrong again. Bo’Vine specialises in steak and boasts some of the finest meats and wines in Glasgow. Well, I decided to go and sample their new menu and it is safe to say I wasn’t disappointed. Their new offer was two courses plus a bottle of house wine for £40 — for two people. In my book, that’s a pretty good deal. Any additional courses cost £4 each and there is no uplift or supplement for ordering the steak — one of my personal pet hates on set menus. If you’re not interested in the wine, don’t worry, they offer the same set menu without the wine which costs £14.50 for two courses or £17.95 for three! For starter I chose Stornaway Black Pudding, Poached Egg, Pancetta, and Red Wine Jus. Fancy, right? It’s quite a small portion and I was sharing it, which I probably wouldn’t advise because of its size, but knowing I was planning on a dessert meant it was the perfect amount for two. The red wine jus was so full of flavour, the pancetta was super crispy and the black pudding fell apart beautifully but still had a bit of that crunchy exterior. The egg in my opinion didn’t add very much but perhaps stopped it from being too dry as you don’t get all that much of the jus. My main was, of course, steak. The cut on offer was sirloin, served with triple cooked chips and fiery peppercorn sauce. I asked for my steak medium-rare and it arrived perfectly cooked. The only downside was perhaps that the outside was a bit pale and didn’t have that charred, crisp exterior. Regardless, it was a quality piece of steak cooked exactly as I wanted, pink and tender. The chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and the peppercorn sauce was gorgeous. It was a little sweeter than I would have liked, but had a good kick to it while being deliciously smooth and creamy. For dessert I went for the Dark Chocolate and Orange Mousse, which was accompanied by crumbled up carrot cake, citrus jelly and ginger popcorn. The popcorn to me was a bit unnecessary and I didn’t really like it, but the carrot cake and citrus jellies were great. The mousse itself was rich, smooth and full of flavour — topped with a piece of candied orange peel. It was the perfect sized dessert after the steak and chips and I finished my meal feeling just the right amount of full. The service to begin with was very quick and impressive, our bottle of house red was brought to us almost immediately, and our first and second courses were brought to us surprisingly fast. There was a slight dip in the service between finishing our steak and having our dessert order taken, however I blame this on it being the busy graduation period and the staff were apologetic for the delay. Our bill came to a total of £44 because we ordered an extra course, but this to me is great value for money. Two steaks, two desserts, a bottle of wine and a starter for £44? Not bad in my book! The quality of the food for the price you pay is a really high standard and just goes to show, you don’t have to spend a lot to get a good steak!

I choose this for our usual Thursday date night and was not disappointed! We usually try and pick somewhere kinda fancy ie. somewhere that we wouldn’t necessarily bring our daughter, somewhere with a nice relaxed vibe with good food! Man did I pick well! We ordered from the Market menu which was unbelievable value at £17.95 for 3 courses one of which included steak! I’ve paid more for just a steak at some places, Usually when we are out together we try not to pick the same food so we can taste a wee variety, however there were very clear winners on this menu and this time we both went for the exact same options. First course was the Stornaway black pudding, bacon and poached egg in red wine jus OMG it was delightful and defo left me excited for the next course. Next was the Sirloin Steak with triple fried chips and peppercorn sauce, which was without a doubt one of the best peppercorn sauces I’ve ever had. The steak was cooked to medium perfection but still had tasty little chargrilled bits on the outside. The chips in the little basket was lovely. For desserts I opted for a scottish cheeseboard now this was my only criticism as I did not like the grape chutney it was too spicy and overpowering, maybe a gooseberry chutney would be more delicate. My husband opted for the dessert special of ice cream sundae with chocolate brownie, this was delicious and plentiful! The staff were lovely and very attentive and all the little touches like the water with cucumber drink to the little dish of Dijon mustard mayo was lovely. The waitress even made my soda water & lime up like a fresh cocktail l– shaken not stirred lol! I have recommended this place to everyone and we will definitely be visiting again! Hopefully the market menu changes seasonally then we can try something else amazing!

A lovely place. Enjoyed the food, the drinks and first of all the ambience. Even is under hilton looks much better than a hotel restaurant. The food is really lovely presented and tasty. My only problem was that i asked for an well-done rib eye which was a bit tooo well for my taste. But the rest of it was great. Regarding the starter(venison carpaccio) i can say it was just delicious. The wine was of a good selection as well. Is a really relaxed restaurant and privacy is «bible». Table are large and not crowded. People can have a good talk without hearing the other table«chewing» in your ear. Personally, please try:) Enjoy…

I have a friend over from Dubai and wanted to give her a taste of the West End in Glasgow so we hit BoVine to try their market menu. Two courses for £14.50 and three courses for £17.95 and you have to order by 7.15pm. For starters we had poached egg, black pudding, bacon and red wine jus. Egg was cooked to perfection, runny yolk inside and the black pudding tasted lovely. The jus brought everything together and made it a wonderful start. As BoVine prides itself on its steak, we had to opt for the sirloin with triple cooked chips, peppercorn sauce and served with spinach and tomatoes. My steak was cooked to perfection, medium, flavoursome and the sauce was the perfect accompaniment. The overall vibe in BoVine is special. It feels like the type of place you should go on a date or with a group of family and friends for a special occasion, and there were definitely some tables doing that. We however went on a cold, dark Monday night dressed in hoodies and jeans, and felt decidedly under dressed. We shouldn’t have though as the staff couldn’t have been nicer. Even when it came to ordering dessert and my friend decided that the ice cream sundae shouldn’t contain carrot cake for some reason so they left it out, and she just had a large flute of cream, ice cream and butterscotch sauce. I chomped my way through a wonderful chocolate brownie with peanut butter and ice cream. Overall, the meal was perfect, and I’m now going to recommend this to everyone I can!

Am I taking crazy pills? The filet mignon here was… I don’t even think it was the right cut of meat. Either that or the cooks are inept and don’t know how to properly cook it. I’ve never in my life been served a filet that was ½ inch thick and that I had to saw through. It should be at least an inch – two or more preferably – high. Higher than it is long. You should be able to slice through it with a butter knife. It shouldn’t come out flat as a pancake, tough as an old shoe and looking like it had been pressed mercilessly into the grill without any regard for tenderness or flavour. It’s one thing if you go to Wetherspoon’s and your seven pence«filet» isn’t melting in your mouth. It’s another entirely if the place claims to be a steak house and is charging 24GBP. I mean seriously, what the hell. To be fair… I was as nice as could be about it, and our server was lovely. They brought me a second one but it was as grim as the first. They did take it off the bill and threw in a free dessert to boot, so that was much appreciated. I think the problem is, someone was well pleased with the clever name of the restaurant without actually being a proper steak chef(or willing to employ one). If it were called anything, anything else, and didn’t have the central conceit of being a steakhouse, I might be back. But it just rubs me entirely the wrong way that this place is serving chuck and calling it filet mignon. The starters and desserts were really nice, and the wine list was properly good, I will admit that. My husband’s sirloin off the Market Menu was also tough, but we were expecting that for the price. Meh indeed.

In my head as I looked through the menu again was lobster, a whole lobster. I wanted the Chateaubriand with Whole Lobster, to share… naturally. Best of both worlds. That’s when lobster-gate occurred… Bo’Vine had no lobsters left, they all sold out the night before. Unfortunately, when handed the menus, we weren’t informed that there were no lobsters left, which is the norm. My birthday cravings were dashed. After silent cries inside, we settled for the Chateaubriand(Medium) with Triple Cooked Chips, Rocket & Parmesan Salad and Fiery Peppercorn Sauce on the side for our Main Course. For Starters, I ordered the West Coast Scallop, Smoked Ayrshire Pork Belly, Pumpkin Purée & Pickled Walnuts. My mom ordered, Stornoway Black Pudding, Poached Hens Egg, Pancetta & Red Wine Jus. My scallops were cooked perfectly. Just the way I like them. My starter tasted amazing. The Scallops with the Pork Belly and Pumpkin Purée worked so well together. I could have eaten it all over again. If I had to find a fault with it, I’d say I wasn’t keen on the Picked Walnuts, but that’s just because I don’t actually like walnuts unless they are surrounded by chocolate. My mom’s starter could be passed off as a fancy Scottish Breakfast without the Square Sausage, tasting so much better, I might add. The Stornoway Black Pudding was moist and full of flavour, a perfect soft poached egg on top ready for the yolk to be burst all over the plate and a piece of crispy pancetta to complement it all. Perfectly cooked Chateaubriand served in a giant frying pan, complete with a mountain of Triple Cooked Chips, Rocket & Parmesan Side Salads and a little pot of Fiery Peppercorn Sauce on the side. The thing I love about Chateaubriand is the cut of meat is so tender, full of flavour & of good quality. Not to mention, the fact you can build up your own plate full of food; as little or as much as you like. The meat was so tender while cutting it, just the right amount of pink & tasted great. I couldn’t fault the meat one bit. It was a great cut, full of flavour, seasoned to perfection & melted in my mouth. The Triple Cooked Chips were unbelievable. So crispy on the outside, light & fluffy inside. I so need to try making them at home now. They are worth it! I’m a huge fan of Rocket & Parmesan Salad, so simple but so tasty. The only downside was, the Salad was rather salty. I’m not sure if it was seasoned with salt or another dressing but the taste of salt was evident. I’m not a huge fan of salty foods so the Salad wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. My mom however, said that the salad wasn’t that salty. This goes to show that everyone’s taste buds are different! Needless to say, I stuffed my face before starting to feel like I was going to explode. After a good break, I found the strength to want to order dessert. Only problem was, I couldn’t choose. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to. I ordered them all. Oh yes. I ordered the Bo’Vine Grand Dessert for Two which consisted of: Chocolate & Chestnut Brownie, White Chocolate & Caramel Bavoise, Vanilla Pod Crème Brûlée with a Walnut Biscotti, Iced Popcorn Parfait with a Salted Caramel Foam, Plum Crumble, Cherry Oil Cake & a Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae with Profiteroles. All I can say is WOW! My favourites were the White Chocolate & Caramel Bavoise, Vanilla Pod Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae with Profiteroles. I had no complaints about those 3. I could have eaten them again and again. The others? I wasn’t such a great fan of unfortunately. I found the Brownie rather dry, it needed a cream with it to give some moisture. The Iced Popcorn Parfait with a Salted Caramel Foam was far too sickly sweet. I could only have one spoonful of it before having to move on to the next dessert. The plum crumble was far too sweet for my liking as well, my mom devoured it though. I was now at the stage where I could hardly move & couldn’t face eating anything else so I didn’t try the Cherry Oil Cake. I left it for my mom to try, which she said was extremely nice. I just couldn’t eat anymore. Would I go back to Bo’Vine? Yes. I’d have the exact same Starter & Main Course. Dessert? If I had any room left I’d choose the White Chocolate & Caramel Bavoise. I would recommend you try Bo’Vine if you’ve never been before, Chateaubriand a must.

I bloody love steak. It’s one of those things in life that makes me so happy and jogs my brain to barbecues in summer, even when I’m eating it in a nice restaurant. I can assure you that Bo’Vine lives up to my strict steak standards! It is a beautiful restaurant — ranch/steak house themed but elegantly done so with leather seats, stone walls, wooden floors and cow patterned fabrics here and there. The restaurant is dark and lit up by candle light and dim wall lights. It has a lovely, relaxed and elegant feel to it. Add that to the scent of steak in the air. Lovely. We decided to just go for a main course rather than a three course meal as we were just in the mood for a steak. The food looked and tasted stunning. My two friends and I ordered an 8oz fillet steak and my other friend had the 9oz sirloin steak. I opted for it to be medium cooked(I used to have it medium-well and I am slowly working my way towards rare!) with fiery peppercorn sauce. Between us we ordered the following sides: Dauphinoise potatoes, triple cooked chips, onion rings, spring greens and creamy mash. The plates arrived with a small side salad, roasted cherry tomatoes and juicy, rich steak without a single piece of fat. It was to die for! I think it was the best steak I’ve had. The restaurant offer cocktails, and one of them is a Smoky Daiquiri which involves Islay Whisky. I don’t like whisky so I chanced my arm and asked if they offered strawberry. The waitress was gone for five minutes — she’d actually sourced some fresh strawberries and had it made for me. Service and a half! It was absolutely delicious. For the 4 steaks, countless sides, a bottle of rosé, my daiquiri, a tonic & lime and a Diet Coke the bill came to just under £133. Not too bad! Take away the alcohol and it’d only have been about £100 for 4 people. I am absolutely dying to go back, except next time I’ll wear loose clothing and clear the rest of my evening for some meat sweats. See my full review with pictures here:

Have I ever mentioned how much I love steak? Yes, I think I have. Many a time. But I’m just gonna go ahead and do it again because the steak in here was just so excellent and wonderful and now I’m slightly saddened by the fact I’m not still eating it. Colin and I booked a table in here last night as I’d heard lovely things about it and steak was a calling me. Bo’Vine Meats & Wines is located on Byres Road underneath the Hilton. The restaurant itself is directly attached to the hotel’s own restaurant, with a lot of hotel guests coming downstairs to eat, and the option on your bill to have it sent to your hotel room. Originally we planned on going for the market menu, which is £14.50 for two courses or £18.50 for three, but when the menus were placed in front of us, we were drawn more to the a la carte options. To start, Colin had the French Onion Soup and I had the Ham Hock and Chicken Terrine with Golden Sultanas, Crispy Onions and a Chicory Marmalade. Now I love terrines anyway, but this one was just so delicious. So well made, it had retained it’s shape perfectly, and was soft to cut into. Amazing. Colin thoroughly enjoyed his soup, although he did slip in that he prefers mine. He knows how to charm. We both ordered the fillet for our main course. All steaks come with two sides as part of the price, or one sauce and one side. We both ordered medium rare with béarnaise sauce, and I went for creamed spinach where Colin chose caramelised onions. I genuinely didn’t want the steak to end, it was that good. Fantastically cooked — it was such a stunningly good cut of meat I think I would’ve still enjoyed it if they’d thrown it at my head. The béarnaise sauce was so rich with tarragon and delicious, and although the creamed spinach was a bit heavy, I still finished it. The roasted vine tomatoes that garnished the plate were juicy and sweet, and all in all it was an excellent dish. As if that wasn’t enough, desserts were soon ordered. The cheese board with grape chutney for myself, and a Seville Orange Pudding with Gingerbread Ice Cream and Hot Toddy Jelly was Colin’s choice. The cheeseboard was excellent, and the grape chutney was delicious. Colin adored his dessert, especially the gingerbread ice cream. The bill did come out quite steep, but as I knew the quality I was paying for, I didn’t mind. My one complaint about the restaurant would be the waitresses. They’re overly attentive when you don’t want them to be e.g. asking how your food is when you’re halfway through a mouthful of food, but then when you need their attention for a drink or something, none of them appear to be available. The service was very slightly on the slow side, but not enough to bother me. I will 100% be back here.

Bo’Vine suffers a little, I think, from being under the Hilton. You don’t really always see it in its own right. The food’s pretty decent, wine list similarly so, but there’s something missing that means that it’s not getting that 5th star. I do find it to be a little too pricey — although the market menu is very good value — but it’s steak, you get what you pay for! Service is consistently quite good — interested, detail-oriented staff who are friendly and attentive without being overly so. If you can, get a table by the curved wall, it’s cosy as. Good for quiet couple-y evenings out. In summation — I like it, but if I’ve got the option I’ll go to the Butchershop at the bottom of Kelvinway instead.

Not a bad little place for a good steak. But your going to pay for it. Bo’vine has a nice atmosphere and a great staff. But it still has that hotel restaurant feel. I really want to like this place because it is one of the few places in Glasgow that seem to do a steak right. But for the price I would be getting a much better steak in the states.
