There’s not really that much to say about this place. I love how modern the building is, and I love how light it is too(great for photos, if anybody is into that). I like that it is close to the lab, and so if I’ve forgotten my lunch or I feel like a sandwich, I can just pop across the road and boom, Atrium Café. As convenient it is, it is still part of the university’s catering services and I have issues with them. For being aimed at(poor) students they charge ludicrous prices, which means that it would be cheaper to go all the way to Marks and Spencers(!!!) and get a sandwich(or something better) there. There is a reasonable amount of seating available, but try and avoid peak lunch hours because the place will be buzzing with medical students and any other sort, and it can get very crowded and loud.

I do apologies that I just can’t shake the student out of me despite graduating in July. BUT, this university café is actually rather nice. It’s situated in the(massive) ground floor of the Wolfson Medical Building. Hence, it’s just before Byres Road and more importantly just beside the bus stop I get off at most mornings on my way into the West End. The food and beverages themselves are much as you’d expect to find in the other university cafes and eateries — as are the prices. However, I can’t help but find this place a little bit brighter, cheerier and more uplifting. This is probably due to the big, open plan space that most of the ground floor consists of. Likewise, there’s a BIG frosted skylight above this, which means that even on miserable Glasgow days it still feels remarkably bright. Excellent. Though, if I’m being really honest… this place also endeared me during the summer there. I’d been unemployed for some time and the ‘graduate’ jobs were not bombarding me as they darn well should have been. And then, I got word back from a temporary university job. Low and behold, this café is where I got my training, free lunch and two free tea and biscuit breaks. Mmmm. Perhaps, first impressions really are everything… and perhaps that’s why graduate jobs still aren’t bombarding me…
