We popped in here last weekend as we were looking to buy a new bed, funnily enough. We knew roughly what style we wanted and that we wanted a super king sized bed and could see that the shop had a lot of different beds on display from the outside. So we headed in to the shop… or rather didn’t, they keep the store locked even during a busy Saturday, so you have to ring the doorbell and wait to be let in. And wait… Okay we could see that the shop was busy, with staff talking to customers, but when the woman eventually came to let us in she didn’t even greet us with any kind of hello /welcome. We were left to wander around the store. This is a large shop with a good number of beds on display, most of them quite large /imposing — think wooden sleigh beds, iron beds and divans with super big headboards. The prices seemed on the expensive side but I have no idea whether they are open to any kind of negotiation as no staff members spoke to us. After a good look round we weren’t sure there were any styles we liked enough to enquire about, so we decided to leave only to find we were locked in! And so the wait began to me let out of the shop… Top tip: check out Feather & Black across the road!

Never has a bed shop intimidated me more in my life! The grandiose king sized beds look like they would make you disappear, their shape is intimidating, you sometimes need to ring to ask for assistance and when I tried to enter today the staff stared me down! So I’ll admit, I only got half of the And So To Bed experience, because I scuttled away. I am saving up for a new bed and really wanted to browse and it may have just been bad timing, but the way the staff whipped their heads up in unison before I’d even pushed the door open scared the living hell out of me. I felt like they’d taken some sort of marketing xray and could sense in the atmosphere that I have no money. Arg! But that gave me enough of an impression, and unfortunately first impressions do count. But since I didn’t actually get a chance to go in and only lurked by the windows for a while after I’ll reserve judgement. As for the beds, wow! They are pretty lush. Strong, massive bedsteads, four posters, rich mahogany — you would never want to leave your bed! My initial thought was if I had a bed like some of the ones displayed here, I would want to fly around on it just like in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Perhaps the staff sensed my naivety from the awe in my eyes and that’s why I got the cold, hard stare. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend having a look in here — you would know you’d hit the good life if you could purchase even a duvet from And So To Bed. However, if you’re feeling the pinch I would recommend Dreams just up the road or, hooray for Sweden, Ikea! Never before have I loved a furniture shop more than I love that one. Unfortunately my review is a bit vague and I’d love to take you inside, but I don’t get the impression it’s the kind of place you can go if you only vaguely require anything. The beds would not look out of place in a stately home, however, so if they’re within your financial grasp do prove me wrong!
