AMT is excellent for coffee fans as it gives you a double shot of coffee as standard. You can even order a double. which is 4 shots! It is very convenient for travelling, and the staff are always happy and chatty each time I have been there. They offer seasonal drinks and special hot chocolate flavours, and also have snacks such as biscuits, brownies, Eccles cakes and crisps. On this occasion we had an espresso, which was tasty and rich, and also a froffee(a thick coffee milkshake– lovely long lasting treat for our train journey). The fruit basket at AMT is a nice healthy touch– not many coffee shops have healthy offers!

I love this wee coffee cart. Queen Street wouldn’t be Queen Street without it! It’s probably worth mentioning that despite the presence of both Starbucks and Costa in the same train station now that this wee cart is always busy… and the coffee is far better! By this point I’ve tried just about everything they do, and have never really had anything I didn’t like. My go to favourites are the cappucino(no sugar, yes please to chocolate!) or a double espresso, depending how early I’ve been forced to travel! The fresh squeezed OJ is pretty awesome, and a lifesaver for a hungover train journey home(I wouldn’t know about that of course! :P). Dodge the two big guns and get to this wee cart, you’ll be thankful you did!

Departing our train at Queen Street, we craved chai lattes. Hmmm. The station has hot drink vendors a-plenty. Who to choose… Starbucks? Costa? Both tempting… But no! I urge you to pay this quirky little tea and coffee hut a visit for several reasons; 1. They’re fast 2. They’re friendly 3. They’re far cheaper than competing, larger coffee chains I’ve got my heart set on the coconut steamer next because my chai steamer was absolutely delicious! Take a bow, AMT.

Fantastic coffee made in this little kiosk in the central station, if I’m ever passing through l always look out for AMT Coffee and try something different from hot coconut milk to a chai steamboat, so many variations could be done. Selection of freshly baked goods available to go with a small selection of biscuits, soft juices and freshly squeezed orange juice. Plenty of friendly and helpful staff quick service. AMT is a British company that uses fare trade coffee, organic milk & also pay 100% of their taxes.

It has to be said that I am quite fussy about my(proper) coffee. This comes from having worked as(Lead) Barista in a coffee shop in my previous, I mean PAST, life. This turned me into a bit of a espresso snob. Oof. I’m not proud BUT I do now know a wee thing or 3 about the sacred bean. I’m gonna say this once and say it loud — I’M AN A.M.T COFFEEADDICT! There. I feel better now. Phew. No really, when I first discovered this wee cart(?) of delightfulness in Queen Street station I was most pleasantly surprised. The coffee is of excellent standard and everything I have tasted on their pretty extensive menu has been ultra wow. My current favourite here is the delicious Café Maya ~ their saucy version of a, normally a bit sickly sweet or bland, Mocha. It is WELLGOOD! If you have not tried this liquid delight then I urge you too. You won’t be disappointed(at least I hope not). They always ask me ‘Would like whipped cream on that?’ Er, hello! I am Angela — and I am also a cream addict. Scoosh-scoosh! I also love that you can choose to have soya milk for no extra charge and they do a great range of milkshake thingys for the caffeine-phobic. These are also most yummy. So when you find yourself in the Queen Street station, waiting on that train to Edinburgh or some mad wee place oop north, then I ask you to dismiss the predictable and(in my opinion, yucky) Star***** or Costa Coffee and go for a wee A.M.T coffee instead. You might just be pleasantly surprised(although I told the barista to stop jumping out on me) and have found yourself, like me, you’re new favourite coffee producer. Bonus is that there are also A.M.T Coffee’s in other train stations around the country and their prices are very reasonable too. Go on! You know you want too…

I’ve always liked this little coffee joint, although I have seldom actually bought coffee from it. They do a good chocolate milkshake, which I remember buying about 3 times in a week once because it was soooo good. If my memory serves well there was something coconut flavoured too. I also had a mocha at one point, which was disappointingly bitter and not very chocolatey at all. The staff tend to be lovely, though, and very quick, despite the fact that there’s barely room to take 3 steps to the left in this little booth! If you’re not a fan of Starbucks or Costa — both of which are now inside Queen Street station — then AMT is a good 3rd option. I have heard their warm spiced apple drink is good, but I usually find myself at Charing Cross lately. Hoewver I will definitely try it soon and update this here review. So far a cheaper, friendlier option, choose AMT!

So this morning I arrive at Queen Street Station with 7 minutes before my train departs and I’m in desperate need of a caffeine fix. A.M.T has a queue. So does Starbucks. It’s now only 6 minutes until my train leaves the platform and I’m wondering if feeding my caffeine habit is worth missing my train. Probably not, but I decided to join the 4-people-strong queue at A.M.T anyway. By now I have 5 minutes to go and I wonder if I’ve made a foolish mistake– after all I still need to get through the barriers and run to my platform– and the woman in front of me can’t make up her mind between a regular or gingerbread latte.(fyi –she eventually opts for the gingerbread –wise choice). My order is then taken before I know it and my £2 latte is presented in front of me when I still have 4 minutes to spare. That’s service for you.

Since Starbucks recently opened literallly ten feet away, I don’t hold out too much hope for this little kiosk, but fingers crossed. I’ve not actually tried the coffee, but they do this brilliant spiced apple drink thing with cinammon, which has a wonderfully festive taste and only costs £1.60. Takes ages to cool down though so be patient or risk losing most of the skin from the inside of your mouth.

I visited the AMT coffee stand in Queen Street station based on the recommendation of a friend. «It’s cheaper than Starbucks and just as nice». Good enough for me, I thought. So, on a 15 minute break from my Googling, I nipped down there and bought myself a hot chocolate. At £1.90 for a(one size fits all) hot chocolate, it was certainly cheaper than Starbucks. Above the roar of the trains I managed to indicate to the guy in the wee booth(overflowing with fruit, biscuits, and a tree growing giant pretzels) that I would like to purchase a drink. He was friendly and efficient, offering cream, marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles on the top — all for no extra charge. Hey, maybe he liked my new lipstick. On tasting the hot chocolate, however, I didn’t think it was as good as Starbucks. The nearest comparator I can think of is… liquid Weetos. Sorry, but that’s really the nearest thing I can think of. If you like liquid Weetos, then you’ve found your Holy Grail. Despite the fact it’s cheaper than Starbucks, it doesn’t taste as good. Also, I can’t sit in a giant velvet chair looking nonchalant. I’m afraid Starbucks wins it for me, on the hot chocolate front anyway.

I love this stall! The service is always quick and very friendly, even at silly times in the morning. I’ve become addicted to their hazlenut steamer(steamed milk with hazlenut flavours) in the winter and their cherry yogushake in the summer. The prices are your average train station prices — above the normal. BUT the drinks are so lovely you’ll forget the price. They also do a nice selection of muffins, fruits and wee cakes if you’re a bit hungry. If you opt for a steamer you probably won’t need it, the drink itself is pretty filling.
