Like others, I wasn’t that fussed with this place. I went once before and never got in because I hadn’t booked, that’s my fault. This time I went and despite there being free tables, it took 10 minutes for someone to seat me. Once in and seated we ordered. I had the pastrami sandwich. It was decent enough, but my expectations of an £8.50 sandwich is that it’s a stuffed tot he hilt gut buster. G ordered the cajun seitan, but they didn’t have any left. That meant we were back to the drawing board for her order. She settled on a cajun chicken wrap. I think if I go back, I’ll probably order one of the breakfasts, They seem like better value and offer a hearty feast. You live and learn. The staff were all nice enough though. All the stuff was OK. Just that OK.

It would seem that this is very much the place to be for brunch in the South Side. Seriously, it is literally queued up out the door, with the people giving dirty looks to anyone who dared stride past them with a reservation. Luckily, we were one of those people getting the dirty looks. Mwahahaha! Seriously, guys… make a reservation. ^^ When you walk in, the New York vibe is immediately obvious. Bare brick walls, the industrial-style hanging lights — not to mention the New York skyline. An open kitchen is always a welcome sight as I enjoy watching chefs work. Because there were so many people waiting to be seated, the bar was absolutely bustling, too. I am loving that more and more places are serving alcoholic milkshakes! Ordering adult milkshakes makes me feel childish and grown-up all at once(worst lactose-intolerant ever, here). Mine was the Lebowski, which was basically a White Russian if it were a milkshake, whereas Harry had the much more sensible non-alcoholic salted caramel milkshake. For the main event, I ordered the Brooklyn Breakfast — a beautiful stack of pancakes with butter and maple syrup with bacon, sausages and eggs. And in true American style, the serving was absolutely enormous. It was insane, but sooooo good! I was full all day after that. Harry had some sort of full breakfast, which was also enormous. Before we’d spied the portions, we also ordered maple bacon and truffle fries on the side, which were mouthwateringly tasty, though we could really only manage a few bites out of the fries. Luckily we were able to have them to go. The fries were cooked with truffle oil, and they really didn’t need any other seasoning at all. It was absolute chaos that day, and the restaurant appeared to be short handed. Our poor waitress was run ragged, and as a result missed part of our order. When it arrived, the waitress was so apologetic and made sure that the item didn’t appear on the bill. What a star. I honestly can’t wait to go back. More grown up milkshakes! Yay!

What a place, waht a portion size! I decided to go here with my gf for a spot of bank holiday brunch so i booked a table for half 12 using their online booking and wow was that a good idea. First piece of advice is any day that people are off, ie sat, sun or a bank holiday then book ahead as it was stowed out with maybe 4 tables worth of people waiting to be seated outside with an hours wait. Nice looking little place, bare brick walls, american city backdrop with an open view kitchen(a plus point for me!), a fully stocked bar and some nice touches like the heart shaped ceiling lights and american style lights on the walls. Onto the fare! We ordered two coolers which is basically ice cream milkshakes. One was the salted caramel which came with a healthy topping of whipped cream and was absoloutely delicious. My gf opted for what was basically an ice cream white russian which is a nice twist on it i must say! I ordered the Manhattan Grand Slam which was a full style breakfast with 2 links sausage, 3 eggs done how you like(poached, fried, scramled or boiled), 2 hash browns, 2 bits of bacon, beans and 2 slices of huge toast either white or wholegrain. On top of this i also ordered 2 stiprs of candied bacon and some parmesan truffle fries. Unfortunately they were omitted from the order and we had to ask again for them. Now this is where the service really shines. Knowing that they had missed this our waitress came over and personally apologised, told us it wouldnt be on the bill(total of about 8 quid) and was basically perfect for what was a very minor oversight when they were absoloutely rushed off their feet. The breakfast was absoloutely delicious, i had poached eggs which were cooked to perfection and the candied bacon wadelicious as were the fries which were something special as it seemed they were doused in truffle oil. As promised the items missed were not on the bill, even better they accept gourmet food cards and the service was brilliant so i just told the servers to add a tenner for themselves(they take card and do recieve tips from it which i really liked!). All in all a really lovely but busy place, great waitresses, tasty food and HUGE portions!

Went for breakfast. Very disappointed that they pancakes were all pre-made sitting there wrapped in cling film waiting to be heated up. Seriously? Pancakes are one of the easiest foods to make. This is certainly not the way we make them in the US. Also, they were a bit like the Firestone recipe — quite rubbery. Perhaps you should hire some short-order cooks who can manage to make pancakes, eggs, and bacon without having to pre-make the food. Really disappointed since my family had said the food was good. This place was in no way American. Giffnock’s saddest food

Breakfast with the ‘wow’ factor ! The boyfriend and I decided to go here on a sunny Saturday morning feeling peckish. I had, by chance, noticed an advert on the subway and thought it looked interesting! Let me start off by saying that the portions are HUGE. Coming here with a huge appetite is definitely the way to go! I ordered the pancakes with a side of bacon and a vanilla latte. The pancakes were massive and fluffy, served with delicious maple syrup and crispy bacon. Definitely the best I have tried outside of Canada. The vanilla latte was sweet, creamy and filling! My boyfriend had the egg and bacon bagel which came with a delicious side salad. The vanilla milkshake that he ordered was bloomin’ lovely! Sprinkles on top and sugary till the very end! I would highly recommend a visit here for breakfast– I will be back very soon!

I’ve tried Tribeca in the West End(Dumbarton Road), and I wasn’t a fan of the breakfast menu. I’d also tried Smoak when it was at The Sanctuary and while I enjoyed the food(mostly) the venue really let it down. So when I heard recently that Tribeca and Smoak were joining forces for the evening menu at all three Tribeca venues, I’ll admit I wasn’t in the biggest hurry to get along to try it out. This Tribeca is a bit classier than the Dumbarton Road venue and has a sleek, modern feel to it. It isn’t the biggest space but we easily got a table for two on a Tuesday night around 7.30pm — most people actually seemed to be finishing their meals at this time so I was worried they were close to closing! Smoak’s menu has a lot of meat, and a lot of BBQ — burgers, pulled pork, ribs, hot dogs. To be honest, this isn’t my favourite kind of food so there was really only two dishes I fancied trying — the buttermilk fried chicken burger and the mac with three cheese. When the dishes arrived, I liked how it was presented as the burger was open, with the top bun to the side and a generous side of cajun fries. The mac cheese was really big for a side portion and even though it had the look of a bland mac I’m pleased to say it was super cheesy and smokey from the truffle. There could have been more crumble, but then again, there could always be more crumble. The buttermilk fried chicken was lovely, a nice crisp outer and lovely soft chicken inside. I know it was meant to be eaten like a burger but I instead just ate the chicken and saved the bun for afters. The bun was a really good brioche, soft but with a nice bite to it. Prices are reasonable — £8.95 for the burger and £3.95 for the mac(which was a massive portion and we struggled to eat it between two). The service was mostly good while we were there — one waiter was noticeably more helpful and chirpy than the other but not enough to knock off a star. I’m still not sure I’d be game to try out the breakfast menu after the lacklustre experience I had at the other Tribeca, but I’d definitely get the burger and mac again.

We had tried to dine at TriBeCa southside a couple of weeks previously, but the 49 minute queue put us off. Today the queue was promised at 10 minutes so we waited outside(not in the sun so was pretty chilly) for over 20 minutes for a table to become free. When we sat down we ordered right away, having had a while to peruse the menu. I went for their five egg omelette which apparently is so big it took them almost three weeks to find suitable crockery. I digress. The breakfast omelette was certainly huge, with two chunky slices of toast accompanying it. However it tasted pretty greasy, probably mainly due to the sausage which wasn’t great quality. I got a bit bored halfway through eating it so gave up and got it to take away! I was pretty full so didn’t get chance to get a dessert but they looked pretty interesting. On the whole there’s great choice for breakfast, brunch and dessert but nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t say it was bad but I don’t think I’ll be rushing back.
