Had a date here last week. Lively pub on a Friday night. Very lively. Three pool tables upstairs which looked good. Large outdoor area. Old fashioned yet functional jukebox was cool. Lots of interesting things about. Cash point too was helpful. Service was good, quite a lot of staff working. Would recommend.

I initially hated Farnham when we were forced to move here from London. Then I found this place! This is one of the very last TRUE pubs left in the south of England. It oozes character and tradition. The décor is slightly odd but in a warm and quirky kind of way. It still has a traditional juke box that only plays ‘golden oldies’. The beer is excellent and there is a vast selection of real ales to choose from. They also have rotating guest ales. The clientèle is a good mix of young students and old cronies, like me. Everyone is well behaved and there is a relaxing atmosphere. The garden plays host to live bands in the Summer months and they even have their own music festival ‘Cobfest’.

Even on a dull weekday evening this pub was lively with a good friendly atmosphere although the staff could have been a bit quicker and friendlier. There was a good choice of real ales. The décor, furnishings and 70s music all combined to make a good feel. Even the gents toilet with its strange narrow access passageway had character! Felt as though I was stepping back in time!

Dark and dingy, this place has no character, staff are dull and not friendly. There are pool tables upstairs but they have tryed to put to many in that it makes it hard to play with out poking someones eye out. The so called ‘décor’ if you can call it that is just a miss match or tat and rubbish nailed on to cover every free bit of wall, also the place is really dark, all day long, the only real way of telling what time it is once inside is(providing you have a 12 hour clock) is to see if they are still serving the lunch menu. The Cobbett is best avoided as there are far more enjoyable places to enjoy a pint

The William Cobbett is probably Farnhams most famous pub and one of the oldest(dating back to the 1700s) — this popular and atmospheric pub is a haunt for students from the nearby art college as well as attracting young people from miles around. The Cobbett, as its known locally, comprises of four bars and lots of different seating areas, and also upstairs are several pool tables. Due to the recent anti smoking legislation the area at the rear of the pub has been modernised with an outside cocktail bar, a gazebo and patio heaters. This is incredibly popular! There is a lunchtime menu available, and a vast selection of lagers and ales. The staff are friendly and plentiful. Getting served is easy.
