After several weeks away from salsa due to holidays with the parents, it was good to be back on the dance floor this evening. So it meant searching for more food places to try before dancing. This venue has changed its ownership and food genre over the years and it’s now a Toby carvery. Despite fears that it could be busy due to the Epsom Derby, the place was about half full when we arrived just before 7pm. We were very pleased to have(accidentally) arrived just in time to take advantage of their ‘lunch special’ — £7.00 for the full carvery and a choice of desserts or starters. Service was friendly and fast though the décor was a bit haphazard. There’s wooden panelling, flock wallpaper, pictures of Tommy Cooper and models of flowery VW camper vans all vying for your attention. Fortunately, the carvery station was more straightforward. You are able to get meat once but refills of vegetables are free. Although Friday was beef night, there was also gammon and turkey available. I was sad to miss out on the lamb which came out later. Yorkshire puddings and sage stuffing were also available. There was a wide selection of vegetables, gravy and sauces on the side. Overall, the food was filling but I’ve had better roast dinners at friends’ houses. The turnover of food should have ensured that the roast potatoes could have been less soggy for example. I had some ice cream adorned with flakes and butterscotch sauce while my friend had melon with a mango coulis. It was OK for some pre-salsa feeding but we will continue to try other places.

This is a favourite for us for Sunday lunch. There is plenty of parking but as it’s always so packed out with diners it can be hard to find a spot although I’ve never had to park in one of the surrounding roads yet. Unfortunately you can’t pre-book here so it is a case of turn up at least half an hour before you want to eat, not always a good idea when you have a hungry child with you. The staff are generally friendly but sometimes a little overpushed for time which can occasionally make them forgetful with drinks taking a while to arrive at your table. It’s usually a good idea to squeeze your way to the bar before you get to your table. The food is fabulous, there’s always a great selection of meat and vegetables as well as non carvery food available and full vegetarian options. The desserts are even better and who can complain when you have a never-ending jug of custard to go with your crumble? The complete restaurant including the toilet facilities is clean and tidy. A highly recommended restaurant!

Great place, always busy but that means the food is always good and fresh. I’m vegetarian and still found it great with plenty of choice of vegetables and a veggie main course kept at the carvery table(same price as the meat meal). Staff are lovely and friendly and nothing appears to be too much trouble for them. You almost always have to queue for the carvery but this doesn’t make people mad as they know they are getting a great deal(look out for coupons) extremely busy and more expensive on a Sunday. Plenty of parking and it’s next door to a rail station and not far from the buses in Ewell.

I love going to the Toby Carvery on a Sunday for my lunch. The price is amazing, usually around £8.99 a meal but you can usually pick up some great offers in the papers. Parking is easy as if you can’t find somewhere in the car park there are plenty of roads around. It is always busy in here, especially Sundays and around Christmas so turnover of food is good making the food remain fresh and hot. The variety of vegetables and meat is really good too, normally being turkey, lamb or beef, with potatos of different varieties, greens, carrots, cauliflower and yorkshire puds.
