The Famous Green Man

Food was great a couple of years back. Prices shot up and the food’s got worse. Still nice just not wow. Always hard working staff though.

My salsa friend and I are gradually eating our way through the restaurants of Ewell before we hit salsa on Friday evenings.
We were attracted by the sign saying ‘Famous Green Man Pub & Restaurant’ last night. The pub was certainly full of happy drinkers celebrating the end of the week.
The food can be served in the pub area or in a separate dining area. We opted for the quieter dining area and were promptly served. The menu had typical pub grub with a few less pubby dishes like duck a l’orange. We opted for butternut risotto and steak & kidney pudding. The presentation of my pudding was typical pub-​style — pudding top down, lump of mash, heap of greens smothered in gravy but my friend’s risotto was more elegantly shaped into a mound with rocket on top and pine nut strewn around the mound. The risotto was nicely flavoured with accents of the butternut coming through while my pudding was OK but not memorable.
Service was friendly and we had a nice chat with out waitress about salsa.
Too many other choices in Ewell to return here in a hurry.

Really great local old style pub! They have a really extensive bar menu and also an al a carte restaurant with watress service.
I think pretty much all of the locals go here at the weekends as it can be very busy! It has a lovelt atmosphere with good staff and friendly service. They have a good head chef who does specials as well as the normal menu, and they also do a pub quiz on a Sunday.
Good all round village pub.
