Lively on a Saturday night and a good choice if spit and sawdust is the type of pub you like. Definitely no frills.

I take great umbrage at the above reviews and don’t think they have ever been in the Spey. I have been going to this pub for the past few years and yes it did have its problems like any other pub, there has been management changes and although the décor could be better it is always clean. Since the smoking ban the customers who have to stand on the main street get harassed from passers by for cigarettes but this only happens occasionally. Police presence moved on the kids who used to hang around but this was not the pubs fault. Renovations have started and everyone is getting excited the toilets are now looking lovely. Customers range in age and everyone has stories to tell, everyone is friendly and this is a good local pub that welcomes new faces. Recently one of my friends had a small get together for her birthday and was welcomed by birthday banners, cards, cake and a free drink, how many other pubs would you get that in. This is a comfortable and reasonably priced pub come in and try for yourself.

I actually really like the Spey Lounge, it’s by far one of the nicer pubs in Leith, even though it still retains that traditional, old man’s feel to the place. My Dad loved it, and we both sat in a comfy booth having a few drinks for at least an hour and a half, which is a long time compared to the other pubs we visited in Leith. The staff were very friendly and helpful, recommending other good pubs in the area, and the customers, although there weren’t very many, seemed friendly too and had a smile for us. A definite must visit on a Leith pub crawl!

An old fashioned pub and mostly frequented by locals, Spey Lounge is nevertheless welcoming enough to those stopping by for a quick pint. The décor is fresh despite the«old man» feel of the place(I actually love old man pubs), and they serve up traditional pub fayre if you’re hungry. Prices are fairly cheap and although it’s small, it can be quite relaxed and peaceful during the day. Although I got the impression it was a pub designed for locals, I didn’t get stared down — there wasn’t anything Royston Vasey about it. Instead, I found it a fairly nice place to drink. Nothing too fancy, but one of the better pubs this side of Leith Walk.

Very rough, locals-oriented pub which is grim and boring. A typical watering-hole in the old mould, its one concession to youth is the underage drinkers who flock outside after buying booze from the Scotmid around the corner from it. Grey walls and derelict toilets make it one to avoid.
