Fantastic bar, great selection of beers and whiskies, good mixture of tourists and locals. Traditional bar that before 5 or 6pm could be described as an old man’s pub but in the evening has an eclectic mix. ‘Folk music which is often live’ — Often live? Is it ever anything other than live? There’s no CD player so I’m not sure this comment works. Always live perhaps. ‘Strangers with a love of folk music can just come together and play some of the best folk music on offer in Edinburgh’ — yes, rarely is it ‘strangers’ despite what you might romantically think.

Meh. It could’ve been much better honestly. So I stopped in last night for a pint with a couple of friends. When we arrived there was very little room in the place to sit anywhere or even to order a drink at the bar. That’s not uncommon in Edinburgh, however the three bartenders were too busy talking to other patrons(who were not ordering anything) rather than asking me or the people I was with if we needed anything. The crowd there felt local, very happy and quite drunk. I didn’t hear any music when I was there, but then again I was only there long enough to get frustrated after waiting for several minutes without service before deciding to head across the street where I know I can get served. It was disappointing really. I must have caught them on an «off night». I can’t say that I am clamoring to go back. The construction in the front of the building doesn’t help either, but that could’ve been overlooked with good service. Or any service for that matter.
