I love going to the Art Galleries around Edinburgh, and I love even more that they are free. This one however is not. But I did get to go free for St Andrews Day. Its a small gallery compared to the other National Art Museums around town. The really cool part is that you get a audio guide that tells you about different paintings and Scottish painters. But I wouldn’t pay to go.

The gallery is a part of the Holyrood tourist complex. It is located in the former Holyrood Free Church and Duchess of Gordon’s School. The organizers of the programme at the gallery aim at exhibiting the finest art from the Royal collection. Currently, there is a photo exhibition of the Antarctic journey to the South pole of Captain Scott in 1910 – 13 and Ernest Shackleton in 1914 – 17. It is a remarkable photography which won’t take more than an hour of your time. The exhibition closes doors on 11 April. The new art visit to the gallery for almost nine months will be a collection of Dutch landscapes. The gallery has a small souvenir shop and those who need a break could visit the cosy café at the entrance of the palace.
