Just one sniff of the Japanese Cherry tea which I’d bought from PekoeTea as a gift, and I almost kept it for myself. It smelt beautiful and sweet; just like cherry bubblegum. It was a quick visit to pick up some high quality tea but definitely one that had me thinking both ‘why haven’t I been here sooner?’ and ‘when, oh, when can I come back?’ The shop is well-organised, welcoming and staff are friendly and helpful. I’ll just have to go back for a cup. Or even a whole tub of tea(!) to add to my collection.

We LOVE Pekoe tea! I don’t know how to write a long review about tea, but they know their tea! Such great mixes and infusions! They are tea experts for sure. Even the way different teas are prepared is amazing! I ordered one last time the«golden monkey» an aged white tea and it came in this cool mini tea pot that they pour hot water over the pot as well… Just like on the Sherlock episode season 1!!! Hehe If you like tea this is the place ! I also love that they have yummy treats from Cookoo cupcakes and the delicious macaron place Patisserie Madeline down the street ! We love going here. Nice quiet atmosphere and delicious teas and treats!

This has easily become one of my favourite places in one of my favourite parts of Edinburgh. I love tea… that’s no secret, so when I noticed Pekoe then I had been dying to try it out. Considering that I had often arrived in Stockbridge desperate for tea well before 10am a number of times, I had opted for other establishments down the street on numerous occasions. Finally, though, I braved the extra hour’s wait for caffeine and managed to slip in to Pekoe shortly after opening time one morning. Now, I’m having trouble convincing myself to try anywhere else in town for tea. The staff in Pekoe are very knowledgeable about the various teas the sell and serve. They will help you find just what you’re looking for or discover something you had yet to think of. One of my favourite things about Pekoe is that I get to try a variety of teas in the shop that I had given up on making myself. For example, I’ve stopped buying Chinese black and green teas as well as Darjeelings. I just can’t seem to make them properly. In Pekoe, you can order tea which they make both time and temperature specific in the proper pots. Most recently, I tried Keemun tea which comes in clay pots and can have multiple infusions revealing different characteristics each time. They also sell macarons from Patisserie Madeleine(so hard to pass these up!), and brownies or other cakes. I would love to give them 5 stars, but still struggle a bit with the layout. The tea and accessories are displayed very well. However, while there is bar seating by the window, it isn’t very obvious, so the table seating is in a darker place in the back of the room. Also, style of the tables and chairs lack character which is otherwise present in the décor and merchandise displays. There is bar seating at the counter, but the counter is often covered with displays of baked goods or other merchandise, so it’s not the best use of space. Those minor things aside, I look forward to visiting Pekoe any chance I get when visiting Edinburgh, and in fact, I’ll even go out of the way to come here or visit the Tollcross location.

Well now, this place flies under the radar now doesn’t it? I would be surprised that this place doesn’t yet have a review, but in all honesty, i’ve been living across the street for almost three months and walk past it daily, but it wasn’t until last week that I stuck my head through the door. Why? *shrug* I have no good answer for this, except that up until last week, I thought this was more bodega than café and rarely find myself thinking, «dang, I need some loose leaf in bulk today.» Which is silly… because I love bulk loose leaf tea. So heads up Stockbridge folks — pop your head in here. Because behind those doors lies a pretty darn cute little café. And yes, they have all the bells and whistles of a proper tea bodega… the cups, the bags of loose leaf, the fancy pants stove top espresso maker… but they also have a casual little seating area, and delicious looking macarons and interesting speciality teas by the cup. It’s a little pricey but the quality is there. I used to be quite the tea snob and strangely fell out of it. This new found little gem in the neighbourhood, might just be the push I need to get back into true tea geekery.
